Don't get this criticism. Last year's list was even older on average and nearly tied the hit record. This one has plenty of younger "risks" like Bugner, Brokaw, Stone, Walters, etc. who have just failed to die so far. If they had filled it up with more random old people they'd probably have lucked into 4-5 hits by now.

I agree he's not what I would call "well", but I think the general consensus that he's barely clinging to life is probably a bit of an exaggeration. Not that I think he'll go on for years either or anything, but he could definitely be a coffin tease type who doesn't die for a little while yet. Per that article earlier this month, his wife wants to take him from Sao Paulo to a beachside apartment in Rio de Janeiro where he'll continue his rehabilitation (which may have already happened given the posts that were made while I was typing this lol). That makes me think he's probably not, at minimum, strapped to a bed hooked up to machines, and is more like your typical stroke zombie in a wheelchair where there isn't anything else particularly "wrong" with them. His current health saga reminds me a bit of Lê Đức Anh, who had a near-fatal stroke aged 97 but still lived another year and a half "rehabilitating" or however long it was (I'm sure there are some older examples who lived even longer).

My old post had Peter Angelos, Lowell Weicker, Chris Haughey, Harvey Carignan, Walt Brown, and Barthe DeClements. I guess it needs some replenishing, given it's three quarters dead. For some common DL names that haven't been brought up in this thread, I think by this point, Peter Max and Donald Sterling are certainly notable enough to be immortals by now. Max is pretty close to Joanne Woodward territory with his Alzheimer's (and he's seven years younger, who knows how long he could truck on), and Donald Sterling has had Alzheimer's for a decade at this point, in addition to his previous prostate cancer. I'd also toss Larry Merchant out there, given it appears he's bounced back from his vertigo-induced critical condition hospitalization. My more niche overdue guys: Vikki Dougan: Hermit estranged from her daughters who lives in a small apartment and sleeps on a pullout couch. Had some form of cancer in her 50s and has suffered from pneumonia in the past. Was supposed to attend an autograph signing last fall but was ultimately a no-show, ostensibly due to poor health but, honestly, I'd buy if she just didn't care enough to go, given she's supposedly in her apartment 24/7 anyway. Frank Layden: Easily one of the fattest celebrities to have ever become a nonagenarian (he was north of 330 pounds until his mid-60s, when John McSherry's death spooked him into shedding some weight). Not doing too badly all things considered, but he's still quite frail and has a nasal cannula. George Cabot Lodge: One of the handful of 1960s US Senate nominees still around. In his case, he was the GOP's nominee to for JFK's seat after he was elected President, so he's a somewhat interesting minor historical figure. There's some speculation in recent years that he's not doing so great; he wrote a handful of political articles every year up until 2017, when he went silent sans explanation, and then all of his papers were donated to Harvard. I only mention him because I first heard this stuff like five years ago and figured he'd be dead soon, but he's 97 next month, so he's logging some pretty solid overtime. Rocky Colavito: Pretty impressed this guy made 90 as he's taken quite a beating healthwise. Diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1992, had a massive heart attack in 2003 that required quadruple bypass surgery. Developed type 2 diabetes at some point and had his leg amputated in 2015. Seeing as how he appeared to collect a new ailment every decade or so, who knows what 2025 will have in store for him. Frank Baker: This guy (the former Yankees and Orioles shortstop) isn't particularly notable in terms of health, but because he doesn't have any mentions on here, I'll make him the honorable mention: he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2018 and given a 4%-8% chance to live, so the fact he's still kicking is pretty impressive given he was 72 when diagnosed.

Halsey is actually a unique for me on one of my DDP theme teams, so I've been keeping a close eye on any rumors of ill health. This recent video isn't too concerning. I agree with the general sentiment of these posts, but I think it's fair to say a majority of Americans don't think Trump is being politically persecuted. Even prior to this/with Trump leading, most opinion polling has shown that the majority of voters believe he has committed crimes. ABC, CBS/Ipsos, Morning Consult, and YouGov's polls all suggest the conviction's approval rating is 50+%, compared to ~30% who strongly disapprove and ~20% who don't particularly care. Reuters' poll suggested that over half of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents each weren't likely to be swayed by the verdict. Harvard's January poll indicated that Trump would only take a very slight hit if he were convicted in this case, whereas the Jan. 6 cases had more potential to actually damage him. Those are moving at a snail's pace, so who knows if they actually wind up playing a part.

I'm just musing here, but I think Linden is probably on their radar because Barney Miller was also Abe Vigoda's most prominent role, and obviously anyone with any knowledge of celebrity deaths knows who he is. And Linden was the titular character, and had a Tony Award for Best Actor even before that, so even if you've never heard of him or the show before, it should be pretty obvious he was genuinely famous. Marla Gibbs on the other hand was a supporting character on a sitcom I doubt any Brit cares about at all for any reason. (Maybe some people know George Jefferson from parodies or general osmosis, but surely not his maid. Especially given her own spinoff was a huge bomb that lasted a whopping four weeks on the air.)
