I think he has looked to have aged quite a bit for about 40 years now, so I don't think there's much out of the ordinary there. (Btw, googling shows it's from last September when he was honored by the Virginia General Assembly.)

I put him on my DC animation theme team (which is mostly just random picks). There's a post on his Instagram from the 2nd, so yeah, he's still going. Not that relevant, but I doubt he wouldn't QO. He'd be guaranteed to get a THR obit for playing the bad guy in The Eiger Sanction and Mortal Kombat Annihilation (in addition to his roles in Babylon 5, Star Trek, Batman Beyond, Murder She Wrote, etc.)

Brian McConnachie (wiki) reportedly died a few days ago, aged 81. His honors include writing for National Lampoon, SCTV, and Saturday Night Live, acting in seven Woody Allen films, and penning the Simpsons episode that guest-starred Justin Bieber.

Joe Bugner, just to have the joy of clicking his name.

Given "Curtains for Johns" and "Drapes Closed", how about "Beckenbauer Shutters"?

Thanks all. Frankly I'm mildly annoyed I even went with Shane on the list, given I figured this was his year (I even jokered him on the CorrectList). But looking through the survivors, I can't see any I would've picked otherwise, outside of maybe Burrow, so I guess no harm done. Shout-out to Glynis for hanging on for a few days. Looking forward to trying again soon!

They do have Louis Farrakhan a year older than he really is. Hope they didn't based the pick on him dying at 92.

Former NYT editor Joseph Lelyveld dead: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/05/business/media/joseph-lelyveld-dead.html He was a DDP pick last year, so, yeah.

I'm not sure if this was ever noted on here, but Rolf Harris' death was actually added to Wikipedia the day it happened by an editor who got the information "from a close friend of his". A week later (while it still wasn't public) he commented about the revert on his talk page "it is nice bit of finesse and I wasn't privi to it, so you helped in keeping a secret."

In recent times, MF DOOM's death not being announced for two months is probably as long as it gets for someone with such a following. Doesn't really fit the "major" part and it wasn't traditionally announced, but Catherine Burns also deserves a shout for being an Oscar-nominated actress who was dead for over a year off radar.

He was on it last year.

Elizabeth Edwards was a DL pick and her notability outside of her husband was quite limited (particularly when she was selected).

I'll probably snap if he doesn't die soon. Not that I have anything against the great man, but there are only so many posts and articles about his immortal status I can take. I mean, I just made two posts where I argued, for some reason, that a guy who presently looks like a zombie and would die if lightly touched doesn't have cancer. I'm sure he'd be elated to find out I have such a high opinion of his health.
-
Sure, but their citation itself says nothing of the sort, and it contradicts the only real in-depth article we've had about his hospice situation. Laziness can happen everywhere. Unless of course it's just something you want to believe. Which I wouldn't recommend because it will be frustrating when he keeps living.
-
"Mr. Carter was not suffering any particular ailment that prompted him to enter hospice care last February, according to people close to him, but was tired of being in and out of the hospital and wanted to spend his final days at home with Mrs. Carter." Yeah, I know there's some WaPo infobox that says he has cancer now, but given it's not in the article they link and the above NYT passage there's no way it's not just a mistake. If he was actually ill with cancer now he would have died months ago.

Him on his birthday (there's also a bit of footage here). He doesn't seem super alert and looks pretty stiff, but I wouldn't call him decrepit yet. Then again 5+ years of LBD is usually when shit starts hitting the fan so who knows.

I'll go with Draper

Let's do this thing... 1924: Art Schallock / Polly Allen Mellen 1925: Lester Crown / Martha Firestone Ford 1926: Charles Dolan / Ramona Fradon 1927: Fred Risser / Barbara Dane 1928: Sidney Kimmel / Pilar Pallete 1929: Jerry Adler / Vikki Dougan 1930: Ion Iliescu / Mary Costa 1931: Darryl Hickman / Ann Roth 1932: Joe Engle / Elaine May 1933: Michael Parenti / Cissy Houston

I think it looks decent. I doubt it'll top this year, but the prospective pool of DL people who seemed like certs was pretty skimpy. Most of the gambles get an "I didn't really think of that, but I can see it" approval from me. Few other random notes: Above all I'm enraged they couldn't commit to the bit and keep DVD at 1. What happened to having a sense of humor? I guess with Lear and now Johns, 101 is the age to be if you want them to finally take notice. Hope Eva Marie Saint can survive the year. I figured they'd pick either the Pope or Bruce Willis. I don't think either will die this year, but I'm glad they went with Francis instead. Although he is pretty damn high up. It's okay guys, we forgive you for missing Benny. Predictable, but glad to see Gene Hackman and Clint Eastwood on the list. Not sure either will die, but they're the kind of name I get antsy about not appearing. They clearly kept Wagner to spite me. To SPITE me I'm telling you. As for the other Bob (Duvall) returning, eh, I don't mind it. He was a lot more quiet than I figured last year. As opposed to Linden who still attends cons and so on and so forth. Blix and Fritzl making it is nice. Proves the DL committee didn't fully go into a coma in 1999. Julie Walters is the only pick I'm convinced is probably a dud. Yeah, she pulled out of something but she is pretty old and did still film a movie after. Most likely it was nothing. I cut her from my DBN team. (Which also had Sly Stone. Plagiarism.) Dropping Ono... why? If I'm counting right I don't even think they had to. Almost certainly she's in worse health than Redgrave or something. Mildly surprised Hurd didn't return. Very surprised with Attenborough. Not that I really expect him to die, but two years without him is pretty shocking, given how they'd never live it down if they missed him, and guys like Cheney and Scales they clearly don't want to take the risk. Since my gut reaction was that it looks pretty good, I'm feeling a final score of 3/50
