Ersen Martin was born in Marktredwitz, West Germany and died in Izmir at the age of 44, he started playing for 1. FC Nürnberg in 1998–99. After that single season, he moved to Turkey, going on to represent Beşiktaş JK, Siirtspor, Göztepe AS, Denizlispor and Ankaraspor, Sivasspor, Manisaspor. Martin suffered an aortic rupture in May 2022 and remained hospitalized until his death on 19 March 2024, when he died at the age of 44.
