    2 others players from 1990 WC died more or less recently: Belgian Lei Clijsters died on 4 January 2009. He played 3 games. USSR player Valeri Broshin died on 5 March 2009. He was an unused substitute.

    20 years ago, Cuban singer Máximo Muñoz aka Compay Segundo died aged 95. He was the subject of Wim Wenders documentary film Buena Vista Social Club in 1997 and gained international fame upon its release.

    Louis-Paul M’Fédé, who represented Cameroon at the 1990 FIFA World Cup, died on 10 June 2013. He played all Cameroon 5 games.

    Italian football player Christian Vieri is 50 today. He scored 259 goals in 525 matches. In 1996-1997 with Juventus, he won Serie A, UEFA Supercup and Intercontinental Cup, being an unused substitute in the latter. In 1997-1998, with Atlético Madrid, he became La Liga pichichi, being the first Italian to be top scorer of a Top 5 European league, the second and last one being Luca Toni in Bundesliga with Bayern in 2008. In 1998-1999 with Lazio he won the Cup Winners’ Cup scoring the opening goal of the final. He then spent 6 years at Inter, scoring 123 goals and being 2003 Serie A top scorer. He won the Coppa Italia 2005 with the Nerazzuri though he didn’t play the final. With Italy he scored 23 goals but didn’t win any honours, retiring in 2005, one year before their World Cup title.

    I found this page. The birth date (1933 is mentioned as Dincer birth date in every website but English wiki) matches. Granted, it could be a namesake, and I didn’t find any other document mentioning Mehmet Dincer’s death.

    Joseph Kebet, Kenyan long distance runner, has died yesterday aged 52. He had won 4 marathons : Amsterdam in 1996, both Boston and New York in 1999 and Vienna in 2003. His best time was 2h 07min at the 1998 Boston marathon where he had finished 2nd, 3 seconds behind the winner, his countryman Tanui.

    Most of the players you guys are talking about are British. What about football players from other countries ? Are they as much afflicted with dementia as well ? In France this is not (yet ?) an issue, I’ve not heard of any former player having dementia. But of course I just know the high profile players…

    Mutulu Shakur, stepfather of the late rapper 2Pac has died aged 72 in prison where he was serving a 60 years sentence for his involvement in a robbery that killed two guards in 1981. He was arrested in 1986. He married 2Pac mother in 1975, 4 years after the rapper’s birth. 2Pac’s mother legally gave him Mutulu’s name, Shakur. 2Pac’s mother Afeni and Mutulu divorced in 1982. Afeni died in 2016 aged 69.
