    Missing In Action

Mary, for one so young you are so cynical! For what it's worth, I quite like them, and I think the fact that they have kept a bank account for his share of royalties ever since he disappeared is commendable. But I do think he's dead. I know they're looking after his money but the declaration of death would be essential if they were ever planning to - say - make creative changes to his work, like remixing it or rerecording it without him. The legalities are easier all round if he's agreed to be dead. MSP are one of my all time favourites and IMHO Richey was a bit of a lyrical genius however but it is with no disrespect that I remind you of rumours of him "playing very quietly", I don't think muscially wise he would be missed should they ever feel the need to re-record (why though, I don't like the newer version of Motorcycle Emptiness as much as the original, if it ain't broke don't fix it, right?). Unfortunately this song does not apply, sadly he's not a fretboy wizard. Wherever he may be, he's probably better off away from the plebrity whoredom that is the modern world.

    Facebook

Good point - can you still see the member list of closed groups, even if you can't actually join them without permission? No you can't see the list LB, just the information saying what the group is about, from the couple I had a look at, it seems you have to be invited to join. Yes you can see the list, I can see the three people currently members are Russell Brand, Anthea Turner and Clive Dunn. Who'd have thunk it eh? Edit - just had a thought, there is a 6 degrees of separation experiment on facebook, which I believe you can use to work out how you might be connected to people if you didn't already know them (as long as they have the application installed I guess). I don't know if it works for people you don't know but if it does you might find it interesting to see how many degrees of separation there are between you all.

    Philosophy

It's World philosophy day today. Not a lot of people know that, except of course those wise (wo)men at the BBC. What the first scenario failed to outline is whether those five people kidnapped/tied to the railtracks were big brother contestants (say). The decision then becomes just that little bit easier, kill Bill, Ben, Tom, Dick and Harry.

    Deathlist 2011

Unless I am missing the point here, I thought the deathlist was all about the committee completely ignoring everyone's random suggestions and going ip dip dog sh*t on the beer fuelled night in question that such a list might be drawn up. Maybe the lack of discussion is a sign people have decided to just let those founding fathers from Warwick* still in contact to do, what is after all, "their thang". But if you could see your way clear to putting Any one Pompey fan on the list, I'd be ecstatic. They are famous. Famous for being complete chavvy bastards. *pronounced Warrick for our friends over the pond, now go work on Leicester

    Too Many Moderators ?

I think 4851 is a very significant milestone. So long Mr. Scream. Godot, think of the squids! We need you, don't go! Besides, I can't fight Belgium's cause by myself!

The Royal Family - keeping nepotism alive for 1,000 years. What if Wills decided, like FW DeKlerk, that enough was enough, and just ended it? He and Harry could then helicopter to, and tumble out of, as many nightclubs as they liked, and no one would care. Would anyone (under the age of 50. Besides Windsor) miss the Royal Family? And spare us the "they're good for tourism" argument. The Tower and Windsor Castle would still be there. I'm quite in favour of them being put in a zoo for the good of the country. (Insert tourism argument here)

500-year-old remains and skulls made of coconuts. DSI Bean has been reprimanded and suspended. Well it's one way of getting a new playground for the kiddies. Though why on Earth they couldn't have just asked Walsh and Dimmock instead is beyond me.

He did, as do the other senior Royals, where did they earn the medals they all seem to wear? As far as I can tell, the closest things they have ever come to shooting are pheasants . The most reliable wikipedia mentions his full title to be along the lines of

Just a thought, us calling tomorrow poppy day is it not the same as say calling shrove tuesday pancake day or calling christmas, Xmas where we remove some of the meaning? If we made a point of saying Armistace the younger generations could be more prone to enquire into its meaning. I agree with you about having an international day, not poppies mind, I feel they should still be intrinsically linked with WWI and the fields of Flanders and Northern France. However in practise these things don't seem to be well publicised. I never knew about the existence of international womans day until I lived in Belgium, and then only from people coming from countries where woman are far from on an equal footing with men. There is in fact an international day of peace too, unfortunately it's too close to international talk like a pirate day to garner much attention.

Just checked mine, and it says 'Poppy appeal' on the black bit. The no more war movement tried and yet failed to replace the words Haig Fund on the poppies. BTW, I think the PPUs white poppies are a fantastic symbol, which I have worn before but gave up because I was fed up of the hassle and argumentative discussions they tend to bring about. Kind of counterintuitive to their meaning.

I had to explain to my work mates in Belgium why I was wearing a Poppy. Maybe in Flandres they are more aware - I got it the week before on a trip to Ieper in the Flandres Field museum. I think the poppy must be a commonwealth thing, I was surprised they didn't know their history (neither did they know the significance of OK). I'm sure they have their own thing, I can't help you as to what it is but in Wallonia it is not the poppy. Have yet to see a single poppy in France. Though we have Tuesday off and many people are doing "le pont", which means they take Monday off too. I can't envisage this long weekend being used as a period of quiet reflection or rememberance.
