On the website, but nothing at all on the BBC news so far. All seems to be about Madeleine or the Cardiff riots. Very strange.

Cricket Thread. Only Mad Dogs And Englishmen
Cerberus replied to The Four Horsemen's topic in DeathList Forum
On a whim, having never heard it, I bought the record of the 1984 West Indies touring squad 'West Indians are back in town' when I saw it in Our Price that year. The B side, 'Skipper Lloyd (Have Mercy)' is credited to 'lead vocal: Thelston Payne.' Finally, a record of mine that isn't on Youtube. I'm not going to remind myself how it went, though. Edit: so it is, not the flip, though. -
I dare say there's a thread for this already, but Jerry is also the latest of several QI panellists who've failed to make it to Series Z. Off the top of my head Victoria Wood, Linda Smith, John Sessions, Sean Lock, Carrie Fisher and Terry Wogan are others. Not sure if Sean Hughes ever appeared on the show.

Quite a big one this - Faith Thomas, who played one Test for Australia in 1958. Doesn't sound much of a career, but one of just four players (two men, two women) of indigenous background to wear the 'baggy green.' Most recent was Scott Boland who destroyed England in Oz about 16 months ago. https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/faith-thomas-the-first-indigenous-woman-to-play-cricket-for-australia-dies-aged-90-1369437 -
So, Harry's coming, Meghan's staying at home. Charles walked her down the aisle a few years ago because her own father was unavailable; he gets a slap in the face in return. Harry, as ever, is torn between his wife and his family. Does anyone think these two will still be together five years from now?

I imagine that Geldof was invited in recognition of getting the whole thing started with Band Aid a few months earlier. Arguably Midge Ure should have been asked too, rather than Bono. Not mentioned above - but the Crowd's version of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' (with a distinctly C-list cast including the Nolans, Gerry Marsden, and, er, Black Lace) was recorded to raise money for victims and survivors of the Bradford FC fire in 1985 and went to no. 1. Probably better remembered than the Sun City record. For discussion and analysis of UK number ones, I heartily recommend this site - which has just got started again after a long hiatus. https://freakytrigger.co.uk/popular/

Yeah I actually switched over to Sky after they did that. Expect that footage to be much replayed on BBC News this evening.

Press conference at 5.30. Assuming it is her, I hope her poor sod of a partner wasn't dragged out to ID her. A body that's been in water for three weeks would be almost unrecognisable in any case. I imagine these days it's generally done through DNA/dental records which is why it takes a little longer. In any case, probably an end to this sad and strange story.

Half Man Half Casket.

Nope, Willie is clearly one of the Immortals. The Clive Dunn of WATW. Serious answer, I dunno, one of the women I suppose. I'll go with Cyndi.
-
Willie Nelson, probably. I have to confess I rather like that record, cheesy though it undoubtedly is.
-
Erm, 'assignation attempts?' What horrible task was he going to be assigned to?

First Celebrity Death You Remember

Duke of Windsor in 1972. Aged nine I can remember discovering, and being intrigued that there was a former King still living - and not even the last one, but the one before him. Next thing I knew, he was dead. I wonder if he'd been on the news because of the Queen's visit to the Duke and the Duchess in Paris. -
Ernest Saunders sends his condolences - and reminds him there's time to make a full recovery!

Bruce Murray, 13 times capped New Zealander and grandfather of two women internationals, dead at 82: https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/former-new-zealand-opening-batter-bruce-murray-dies-aged-82-1353037 -
Navy veteran Harry Waddingham looking amazing for 106 in this clip, shown earlier on BBC Breakfast. Upright and alert with a strong, clear voice he could easily pass for fifteen years younger. (Edit: On this morning's show he was talking about his war service, but a short section of this was also shown).

There's a well-known photo of Muhammad Ali meeting Gary Sobers in England in 1966; we know that Pele met Ali. Given that he was here for the World Cup, I wonder if he ever met Sobers too? Surely the three greatest sportsmen of the second half of the 20th century.

It was the hospital. Keep up now. Connie is probably a decent bet from what I've heard - if he doesn't make the 50 next year a three-way race with Juan Carlos and Harald of Norway might be on.

New 50p coins in circulation as of today (previously only available at an inflated mark-up from the Royal Mint). 4.9 million isn't very many in terms of a coin mintage though - roughly one in 14 in the UK will be able to get one. Less than that in practice, as I suspect they get hoovered up by Post Office and bank staff. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-63888781

Bit of a big lass these days, isn't she? Her pro partner isn't exactly a svelte chap, but she's matching him pound for pound. And Rossi claims his favourite Nolans songs is 'Gotta Pull Myself Together' when everyone knows their forgotten gem is 'Attention to Me.'
-
They don't say do they? Wait until the end credits. Spring or early summer this year, at a guess.
-
Currently on BBC2 in a new episode of 'Celebrity Antiques Road Trip' with Francis Rossi. She looks fine to me.

I think 'Rumours' deserves its classic album status, but some of it has suffered from over-exposure: the four singles and 'The Chain' have been flogged to death on oldies radio. 'Rhiannon' is another one, although that actually comes from the previous (eponymous) album.

Their music was pretty varied it has to be said ... play Albatross, Go Your Own Way, Tusk and Big Love back to back to see what I mean. I could understand someone not liking everything they put out, but none of it?
