Have you got an issue with the vertically-challenged? By the way, how is your view these days? Are you still plonked in front of a window looking at trees all afternoon? -
Err..championship contests were a cause of consternation back in the 80s (ie 12 or 15 rounds), causing various breakway versions of boxing organisations. Twelve rounds is the norm, methinks.

From what you said, he sounded like a decent, genuine bloke. Sorry for your loss.

I suspect you are starting from a false proposition here. No, most people I know put them away upside down. Maybe I just know the wrong type of people. But thanks for such a prompt and thorough answer all the same. I quite like this deathlist site. Bars have historically placed their glasses upside down - as you said - to keep dust etc out of the glass. However, I agree there are then issues about what surface the glass rim is sitting on. We use drip mats that raise the glass off of the main surface (and run them through the dishwasher to maintain their cleanliness). However, I never thought about the way other establishments maintain hygiene/cleanliness - until TAFKAG raised the point. I suppose we all trust bar staff to ensure a clean glass storage environment(?)

LG, you'll probably have to stump up for a digital aerial, ranging in cost from £10 - £30. This should boost the narrow digital bandwidth and may be the answer.

I agree. My sister has been left with memory loss and a complete change in personality, for the worse. We may soon get to find out. Seve's out of Intensive Care.

Well said, sir. A few days prior to the 2-week poppy collection period, I was preparing poppy boxes for distribution and also noticed (on background TV) that most live programmes had presenters/guests with poppies on display...it's definitely some form of one-upmanship on other TV competitors, but it sort of misses the point. The poppy collection lasts for two weeks only and is sort of meaningless either before or after the collecting period. I'm sure that, come tomorrow, these same presenters won't be playing a game of who can carry on wearing a poppy the longest.....they'll have been binned the moment they came off air today.

President (recumbent) Barack Obama
Terminator replied to Boudicca's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Errrr...how many dozens of Time Zones are you west of Hawaii? You're posting events that happened four days ago (dial-up modem problems?) Still, insightful as ever. however I will carefully trawl Obama's new administration to identify the "little person". If he exists, will you accept you are losing it - and identify HOW you noticed you could have been losing it in the first place? -
Same problem I'm having with the dating game.

Couldn't you just forge a note from your mum? It've been less convuloted than your (no doubfully true) explanation.

I agree and I'dd to that people wearing poppies before November. I agree with the poppy cause but seeing them everywhere from mid October cheapens the cause and turns them into a Christmas decoration. I have to admit to being a Legion Treasurer* and have some idea of the rules etc for Legion poppy collections.....Poppies should not be worn until two weeks before Remembrance Sunday. We've had them in stock, but not released them...next thing MPs and TV "personalities" are wearing them - just to be seen that they are ahead of everyone (pretty pointless, but they feel compelled to do it). The reason that large companies (eg Sainsburys etc) place huge poppies on the front of their lorries etc is that they, separately, provide huge donations to the poppy appeal (which may go unnoticed) - and feel they have to brag about it as visibly as possible. Our Legion members collect outside various supermarkets (including Sainsburys) and that money is banked by that local Legion. However, I do agree that they are marginalising the true poppy collectors when they parade around metre-wide poppies. On the other hand......they are obviously noticed and - if that imprints on the psyche - then perhaps more poppies will be sold....I'll just dangle on the fence. * Our tiny club collected over £65k during last year's poppy collection (with one donor handing over a £10k cheque) and have collected over £50k for each of the preceding five years. Interestingly, this year (despite the middle of a recession), we have been overwhelmed by poppy donations. Regardless of how we ended up in war, there is a common support for those who have had to needlessly "bear the brunt" as required by our Government.
