NYT obit for Geraldine Doyle. Who?? She's the face of this poster. "We can do it!" The picture is commonly mistaken as Rosie, the riveter. Never knew this woman was of flesh and blood! She's also a contender of a person dying shortly after the death of a spouse. Her husband died earlier this year. -
Statement at the end of that clip. Great entertainer, sad he's gone. Edit: BBC obit.

People I Was Surprised To Find Are Still Alive

I'm watching the history of Horror on BBC4 (Yes, even here in the Netherlands we have it if you're willing to pay for it) and inthere was an interview with Carla Laemmle. She was mentioned on page one of this very thread in 2004. Six years later she, as the last surviving castmember of Phantom of the opera (1925) and Dracula the vampire (1931) is still around at the ripe old age of 101!! Surely she deserves a spot in the 2011 list. Edit: I almost fell for the Gloria Stewart trap, who is also featured in this documentary. But she died this September. -
Let's pray for him.... ....to enter the pearly gates! No Dick can be a dick like Dick Cheney is.

Just at the end of the year R&B singer Teena Marie dies at the young age of 54. Teena Marie - It must be magic.

A very nice summary made by Cracked.com of the deaths of 2010. There might be some deaths we could have overlooked (but I doubt it...)

Another sad departure in the Netherlands. Legendary keeper Frans de Munck died at the age of 88 today. Frans de Munck with Jayne Mansfield, mother of Mariska Hargitay (Law and order, SVU). Lucky bastard!

Whoops, how stupid of me..... Indeed, the wrong person. And the reason for digging this topic up was the fact that this film was shown this afternoon on TCM. (Yes, some people actually tune into that station.) I did search for it before opening the thread, but didn't find it. Seems other persons found it using other trigger words.

Many actors and other staff are still alive connected to the movie the Great Escape. Some of the stars are long gone (Steve McQueen, James Coburn, Donald Pleasence and Charles Bronson come to mind) but a number are still around. Seeing that some pictures have their own topic like Poseidon Adventure, but I think this movie deserves also a topic of their own. James Garner,82 David Attenborough, 87 David McCallum, 77 John Leyton, 71 Angus Lennie, 80 William Russell, 86 George Mikkell, 80 Lawrence Montagne, 80 Tom Adams, 72 Karl-Otto Alberty, 77

Can I enter another name? I think this one passes the "fame-threshold". It's Beat-poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti. This chap has his own Wiki and is 91 years old.

I think Zsa Zsa will see the changing of the year. I'm going for Niemeyer. I see Thatcher has 13%. That must be wishful thinking.

Soulsinger Solomon Burke could not handle a landing at Amsterdam Schiphol. Rough landing it seems.

I just read Westboro Baptist Church pastor and serial freespeech abuser Fred Phelps will be doing his own Quran burning, even if Jones backs out. So I guess the race is on to see which one goes out in flames the first. Phelps is in the lead since he also passed the 80 year mark! I hope those extremists take the right one or we will be seeing another dead parrot comic sketch...

How did they get away with using that name? Considering there was already an act with the same name from Sheffield... Indeed!! I was wondering who could have been the singer of LFO. Edit: CNN bulletin 19:30 hours European continental time: Phelps wins.

What is the age bar for this thread? Tony Curtis is 85 and his pal Roger Moore is 82.

It does make sense if you want to predict that nobody on the list will die this year. regards, Hein Now that's a longshot....
