Why is there a "none of the above"?? This is a poll in which you need to make a choice from the list. Makes no sense.

One would expect that sources like the BBC would pick up this news story, but they don't. Radio Netherlands does. It appears that Ton van Duinhoven was world famous in the Netherlands only. Oh well. regards, Hein At least the New York Times picked it up.

People I Was Surprised To Find Are Still Alive
Whitehouse replied to Catherine's topic in DeathList Forum
Last surviving main character actor of "Gone With The Wind" (Melanie), 94-years old. And no, that's not a stage name, she was given that name at birth. Her sister Joan Fontaine, also a major actress is 92-years old. Now that is a stage name. Her mother would not let her use the De Havilland name. Her real name is Joan de Beauvoir de Havilland. -
I thought she died a few days ago. That is so eery! I just watched that movie yesterday on TCM. She died in that movie from a tumble of a horse. This leaves Maureen O'Hara as the last surviving main character alive. I think I'll put her in my list next year, including her sister Joan Fontaine. Meanwhile.... How about the for a rock and roll death!

Who is he? I don't know who he is. But he is on my 'dustpool'. This will bring some light to that. and dead... Apparently was incredible long coffin!

Another soft target emerges. Dennis Frederiksen, former lead singer of Toto announced he has inoperable cancer. He took over when Bobby Kimball left the band.

Still not dead.
-
Naw, he's someone who will be missed...

Close call!! This morning Dutch teletext reported the death of writer Harry Mulisch. Turned out the editors of TT made a major goof! He ain't dead, but since they prepaired for it some expect him to die in the near future.
-
Granted. His fame as "oldest man alive" was only given to him two weeks ago. However you also have a hand in picking sitting ducks like Wendy Richard and Jade Goody, who were bound to die this year. Did you forget to include Farah Fawcett?

Just out of curiosity. Why wasn't he on the list? Was he a too easy vicitm? Oh, and maninblack, the BBC mentions that there are two surviving WW1 vets still alive. There's also 108-years old Claude Choules, who served in the Royal Navy. The beeb also mentions the big events he witnessed in his lifetime. Strangely enough it mentions the death of Elvis but somehow omits the sinking of the Titanic. As much as I admire the King of Rock 'n' Roll, I think that other event is a much more serious event than his death...

Yeah, I know. But if I didn't say it some other joker will do it...

Cronkite cronked.... Just on the eve of the anniversary of his moment of glory, the newsreport of the moonlanding...

Simon will be sadly missed. He was a national treasure. He never concealed his affection for drug use. He never made it a secret he loved to smoke some pot. He considered himself to be the oldest hippie in the Netherlands. A great advocate to legalizing pot. He wás the Netherlands. (sure, a direct translation of that last poem makes it look like gibberish, but in Dutch it makes sense.) (Then again, maybe he was high on pot....)

Dutch Teletext or if you're in the UK Dutch Ceefax) is reporting that renknown Dutch Poet Simon Vinkenoog is on his deathbed. Two weeks ago his right leg was amputated (so in fact technically he's about 20% dead...) but he seemed to recover from that. This evening he was rushed to hospital with a severe brain hemorrhage. He'll be missed...

Huh? What kind of question is that?
-
Seems actress Josine van Dalsum is spending her last day on earth.
-
Just a question, (possibly answered before but I'll ask nonetheless) why are obits restricted to British newspapers or websites? Just because someone is famous in other countries doesn't rule out a nomination, does it?
-
Dutch actress Josine van Dalsum. Has been battling brain tumors for some years. Seemed to survive them until the end of 2008, when the illness came back with a vengeance. Her last performance she couldn't finish. Easy target. Seems to be in the last stages...

Netherlands. Not known to many, cameraman Jan Schaper died. He was the one who filmed the legendary Stones consert in the Scheveningen Kurhaus on August 8th 1964. It was the very first Stones gig in history that was interupted due to riots. It was also their very first gig outside their native England. From the Kurhaus website:

You beat me to it. Different link.

Yep. Thát soldier.

What strikes me most is that the bulk of the deaths occurred before 2000. After that year you don't see that many people die of the desease. I think we can contribute that to two things. The awareness of the desease and the progressing medical research.
