It's a last ditch effort. All he has to do is last 15 more days.... At least he's feeling well enough to last to Christmas, which is a good sign. I've planned to have them both on DDP 08 for a while now. I think some Orthodox members follow the old calendar in which Christmas is January 7th. Hopefully they set there sights on that date and hang on.

on the thread he looks a good pick. Older than Christo - the joker - doulus mind. I'm tiring of this stuff a little bit. Last night I was making a list of "hopefuls" and I hadn't heard of any of them although there was one or two I should have known about. Wittman is not one of them. Whether or not he is obit material he's just not in the right league. I'm coming round to Cowboy Ronnie's point. There is a difference between the Deathlist and deadpooling. Deadpooling is becoming a bit weird. I no more wanted to study progressive cancers than I wanted to be an undertaker, yet it helps to know this stuff to have any chance of winning a deadpool. So I now have two lists. The list I would like to play and the list of nonentities that I know has a better chance of getting points. Whichever I do play it's going to be Godot's last list. Its a fair point about knowing how deadly cancers are. On the other hand, I have learned about the state of political affairs in several African countries and I now know lots about Nobel Prize winners and other inventors.

Hank Kaplan is dead. It will be interesting to see if gets a UK obit as I was going to take a gamble with him on next year's DDP team. Jack Cardiff is now off the subs bench. CRAP!! Paging Mr. Edmund Hillary

presented I hope he makes it since it seems like he is a nice guy. I think this is putting a brave face on it. His cancer is spread throughout his body including his brain.

I also think that if you were a big celebrity that disappears and quits all his projects, and rumors of your terminal illness surfaces that aren't true you may be inclined to deny those rumors. Hell, even Elizabeth Taylor went on Larry King to show that she is okay. Where there is smoke there is usually fire.

In terms of people not 80+, I think Pollack (along with Christodoulos and Fawset) are my top picks.

The perfect DL post. Anonymous, using somewhat imperfect English (but much better than most DL'ers could do in a foreign language), making an entirely unsubstantiated prediction, and following quick on the heels of a similar post making an unsubstantiated, completely opposite prediction. The very reason this site was built. There will be a strong lobbying effort to get this boring old git off the 2008 list. If he'd invented blue jeans, fine. Otherwise, he's just another not all that famous 99 year old. And a freakin' Belgian too. Bah! I vote to leave him on, conditional on the fact that he's still breathing come 2008. Certainly the father of Structuralism, while pretentious sounding, is worthy enough of legitimate fame. If you really want to get rid of "just another not all that famous" old person, try Ruby Muhammad, less likely to die and with no real claim to fame outside of a being a very old member of an organization (was not, as has been discussed, ol' Elijah's widow). Even if she did die, there'd be not much glory in that. I think he should be left on. He has certainly contributed enough to society...I wear Dockers all the time.

Dr. Robert Cade, who invented Gatorade and sparked the multimillion dollar sports drink industry, died Tuesday of kidney failure. He was 80. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071127/ap_on_re_us/obit_cade

What about Tony Hart? He supposedly can no longer paint.

Shamir is a better match for Smith.

Uh, that article is from 2005. But still, I don't think his condition would change much since then. Holy crap....that means that he must have died sometime in 2006 and is now walking the earth as the undead. Someone get a stake and some holy water.

Ali should be a lock if he hangs in there until 2008. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9831638/

Singer Robert Goulet in fight for his life In an interview with Reuters, Vera Goulet said her husband was under sedation and on a respirator at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center while awaiting a decision on whether he can receive a lung transplant. Goulet, whose 74th birthday is next month, is on the ventilator after being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, which often requires a lung transplant. "His life is hanging on the edge but he is a very strong man. He is being kept sedated because he is on a respirator and if he wasn't, he might try to rip it out," Vera Goulet said.

Marie Osmond collapsed after her dance routine on "Dancing With the Stars" last night. People magazine says: "This happens sometimes when I get winded," a visibly embarrassed Osmond, 48, told co-host Samantha Harris. "I'm so sorry." Viewers watching the show live in the East saw Osmond perform a show-stopping samba, then walk to the judge's table with partner Jonathan Roberts. A visibly winded Osmond then leaned back into Roberts twice before falling onto the floor. As soon as the show went to commercial two medics and Osmond's manager rushed to her side. The ballroom was silent for more than a minute before Osmond was helped to her feet by Roberts and her manager. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkl695BZjH0...tp://wwtdd.com/

It doesn't seem like vegetative states mean that anything is eminent. Look at Sonny Von Bulow. Anyway I need to cut this list down to about five by the end of the year unless it is cuts itself naturally: Sharon Ariel 2/27/1928 Farrakhan Louis 5/11/1933 Ali Mohammid 1/17/1942 Ebert Roger 6/18/1942 Eszterhas Joe 11/23/1944 Kristel Sylvia 9/28/1952 Graham Billy 11/7/1918 Smith Ian 4/8/1919 Stevens John Paul 4/20/1920 Bradbury Ray 8/22/1920 Shuttlesworth Fred L. 3/18/1922 Klugman Jack 4/27/1922 Briggs Ronnie 8/8/1929 Steinbrenner George 7/4/1930 Pinter Harold 10/10/1930 Taylor Elizabeth 2/27/1932 Johansson Ingemar 9/22/1932 de Klerk, F. W. 3/18/1936 Stubbs Levi 6/6/1936 Travers Mary 11/9/1936 Harald V of Norway King 2/21/1937 Bouteflika Abdekaziz 3/2/1937 My League is 10 points - first digit in age, so less points for older people. Thoughts or advice?
