    Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Quite and I accept your apologies on behalf of the gay squid community for forgetting their plight. Apparently SQUID stands for Swimming Queers United in Denver so you might have to travel far and wide to reclaim your word Godot. Will we also be reclaiming gay to mean happy, jolly etc as well? I hold my hands up MIB. Where I come from I would be considered as queer as they get. But the problem with this thread is that it risks drawing attention from other, ahem, well loved threads. Gay squid should not be here Mono and you know that. That was provocation. They may be gay but they're squid and should be in the squid thread. Besides, whatever they do in their private life is their business. The thing is that we all attract labels. I'm a queer Tyke gimmer (that's gimmer not gimp) but do I need to be pigeonholed as such? I agree that there's nowt so queer as squid, but it hurts to see them here and it's symptomatic of the way the gay community hijack (Ooo, controversial!) a lot of the best stuff in entertainment like that bloody Norton bloke who I can't stand, not because he's gay or because he's Irish but because he's such a repulsive, mincing lady boy tart who fannies on to our screens. He's just not manly, not like a....lumberjack. I have to say I get a bit irate when any public figure, pop culture icon and historical figure gets labelled a 'gay icon' rendering it utterly pointless for everyone else. Tagged and labelled like a feral beast rather than free to roam the tundra of ambiguous interpretation. Gay culture has in the main been a positive influence on pop culture, often one step ahead of the rest. But the hijacking of things like old phrases retroactively labelling everything as the exclusive property of a subculture is boring.. Let's set free ABBA, Judy Garland and The Sound of Music from such chains! No, Judy Garland and the Sound of Music can stay chained up for all eternity please, as can The Wizard of Oz (except the Munchkins, they're ok), Eurovision, Cher , Diana Ross and Breakfast at Tiffany's Have you seen your signature? Icons like Karen Carpenter are human too...

Kenneth's Williams comedy partner Hugh Paddick who was also gay lived until he was 85, and Kenneth Horne who was straigh died at the same age as Kenneth Williams. I think people see the patterns they want to see. BTW - any else think George Clooney is gay? It's that little wiggle he does with his face when he talks isn't it? Hmmm... I have well and truely been put in my box with the avalanche of old queers (sorry Godot!) loitering with intent on this thread. If, Godot, you looked through all the threads created since 2003, pretty much every denomination have been covered to some degree or another, I mean that's what's this forum all about and it's created a stir just as certain people were bemoaning the lack of action on this site.. ...wonder who that was?

Hear, hear! There are no damn statistics to prove your drivel. You could equally come up with examples of tortured souls in the hetero world who've not lived to draw a pension. Unless you can convince us otherwise move along, there's nothing to see here. Just a bit of idle speculation Justin, nothing to get your football shorts in a twist about. Mind you weren't exactly the best example of a long life, were you?

And don't forget Michael Jackson. Allegedly.... Of course if we are talking Peter Pans of Pop, then a certain knight of the realm is still going strong at 69... ...allegedly!

She was put on my 2010 DDP before the programme even finished. Aye, well, there goes yer unique pick bonus! I'm not too sure how ill she actually is as I can't remember hearing the word 'terminal' being used. But it must be terminal if she got a Pride of Britain Award...right? Worth a punt though, my initial 30-something 'squad' for DDP was a little on the aged side and needed some fresh faces...

    The Dead Of 2009

What a shocker. Drugs is my guess. Who is Stephen Gately? Isn't this more significant, death by gingervitis? He was the gay one.. Well, as Stalin might have said: One death from Boyzone is a tragedy, a death from Westlife is a statistic....

    The Dead Of 2009

And mine too. I was watching a Dr Who DVD feature and he looked very ill. Shame, by all accounts he was a lovely man (my brother met him and can confirm that!) and a good producer. I think the Pertwee era has become the most underrated period in Dr Who history... Oh, and lets not forget that he made the greatest decision ever made a producer of the show. It was he who appointed Tom Baker as the 4th Doctor! RIP Barry....

    The Dead Of 2009

Well done Ethnic Cleansing, top work. I wonder if he read the brain tumour report on DL last year? I do think that leaving a suicide note on Facebook is a tiny bit...tacky. [Mods, I reckon McGee deserves his own thread] A bit late to change anything now, death is a one way ticket. I think it might be a more appropriate thread for Matt Lucas, seeing as he's still with us. I knew about the brain tumour but then heard nothing more about it. Then when I read that they got 'divorced', I speculated that it might have been a bit of porkies from McGee to save the marriage. He did seem a bit of an oddball I must admit...

    The Dead Of 2009

Bloody hell... For Ethnic Cleansing though, what an inspired pick! That's 16 points heading his way....and into 5th place! Well it's a good thing for Lucas that he left him, otherwise McGee could have done a Halliwell on our routund star, and what news that would have been...
