  1. In a similar vein, people starting a sentence with 'obviously'.

    For example;

Obviously my game plan was to get to the net at every opportunity, and especially in the windy conditions. I think I wanted him to hit as many passing shots as I could,

If it's that f*****g obvious why are you f*****g telling us? It makes me a little bit angry sometimes.

  2. I still reckon you shouldn't have deleted the thread, Windsor's paranoid ramblings said far more about him than they said about you.

What's this then? Provoke Windsor day? Get lost.

Didn't you start a thread claiming TH was deleting your posts and reading your PMs? How could reminding you of your poor behaviour be construed as provocation?

  3. A recent(ish) article about Bill McLaren:

"McLaren's many admirers from all corners of the world will be sad to hear that he has not been doing so well of late. The ravages of old age have taken their toll. Word of his deteriorating health has increased concern within Scottish rugby circles." :(

I'd be sad to see him go, I immediately associate him with getting up in the middle of the night to watch the All Blacks trounce Scotland at Murrayfield. Great voice, great commentator and (I'm told) a very nice man indeed.

  4. I've stayed out of this discussion because it didn't warrant my comment. MH researched it and posted said conclusions above. He didn't have to do it, but I'm grateful for the effort. There are plenty of places on the 'net for being as abrasive as one would like to be (brawlhall.com comes to mind), but this isn't one of them. I have messed with a couple of people here, but always in fun and without malice. They know who they are and some of them still carry the evidence in their signatures. I find that quite a compliment. Purposeful stupidity is another "style" that has more suitable outlets, and I will continue to defeat it here. We have a good number and a fine quality of moderators here, and I'm proud to be associated with them; I will also defend them against those who would salve their own egos in attempts to become a mod. As Forrest Gump put it: "That's all I have to say about that."

I still reckon you shouldn't have deleted the thread, Windsor's paranoid ramblings said far more about him than they said about you.

  5. Hm! The guy with the sequins had nothing on the guy who did pushups with his fingertips. Nice to see Canada fielding a quasi-decent entry, however. :)

Hell no ie+, New Zealand won that by a mile, we had nearly half of the whole thing. I hope you're not getting the wrong idea though, not everyone here's big and tough like him.

After showing a few people around the office, he's been remembered as one Brett Fairweather, spreading the word of excercise and good living accross the country like a communicable disease.

  6. Not wishing to be left out, I looked up my nearest town, Agen, on Youtube. I was thrilled to find pages and pages of videos. Unfortunately, it appears that there are lots of people out there who can't spell 'again' :) e.g. 'Me and my mate Lisa mucking about agen'.
:) That's horrendous, txt spk hs tkn ovr de wrld. I'm sure it takes more effort to spell everything so badly (but still be obvious as to what word is meant) than to learn the right spelling most of the time. Maybe it's cooler to deliberately mis-spell words rather than to unwittingly f*ck your spelling up all the time?

I think the comments posted about the 'Bexleyheath' video were probably more insightful with regards to the average mentality of the locals than the actual video, which was reasonably well put together and an attempt at some humour by highlighting the negatives of the area. It's not really that bad, I'm sure there are many worse places to live. Probably...

Whoever made the Bexleyheath 'video' made tremendous work of the song, imho. It really, really made me want to not go there ever. I can think of no other tourist promotion as effective. In response I'd like to post a link to something equally tasteful from my hometown but sadly, there's nothing even half as clever.

  7. Very sad news. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's done a Keith Moon, I imagine I'd feel like many, many drinks if I were in his boots.

One other thing, now that this thread has become by default the cricket thread, should the name be changed to something less Australo-specific?

  8. I look down upon those people who call themselves singers and who can't write their own songs.

Pointing out the gaping holes in this ridiculous statement may be fun but trying to get our esteemed member from the eastern United States to see sense isn't worth the effort. It'd be infinitely more rewarding and manifestly easier teaching a dog advanced quantum mechanics.

Please stop encouraging Banshees by replying.

  9. You are tempting fate there - someone will start the thread just to spite you. Probably on a day when you are really pressed for time but yet being a sucker for distractions flick through tens of pages in disbelief before being driven to desperation and becoming the first DLer to cark it.
I once read the entire Richard O'Sullivan thread in one afternoon to see what the fuss was all about.

The fact that I not only still live, but willingly visit this site, means I think I'll be able to take it. :D

I've tried to do the same, it took a lot longer than an afternoon and when finished I understood how police divers must feel when they have to look for some sort of evidence in an open drain.

On topic however, I was reminded this morning of what a great voice, and in my very limited view a candidate for best Rock voice ever, Chris Cornell of Audioslave and formerly Soundgarden has. I'm always quietly pleased when either of those bands is on the wireless.

  10. Well, James Cameron claims to have found the long lost tomb of Jesus and his family.

    link

Anyone else dubious about these new claims?

According to the gogglebox tonight, the names on the ossuary 'Jesus, son of Joseph' were so common at the time that it would be on a par today with 'Phil, son of Steve'. On the subject of death though, James Cameron's career. Isn't making docos for the Discovery Channel a bit of a step down from three hundred million dollar movies?

  11. What is the source of this fascination with Royce Galaxy?

That'd be me, I am the source.

I found it very odd indeed that what would seem to be a ridiculous thread started by a drive by lunatic (lunatic because ranters rant and spammers spam, this thread is neither but it is an excellent example the 'Golden Age' of the DL judging by the replies from STTG, HCW and your Tuberoid self), was resurrected 15 months later for a purpose or purposes unknown.

Reading the RoyceGalaxy post I was struck by many similarities between the esteemed guest and our own self-proclaimed 'Deathlist Village Psychic', whose powers to predict death were yet to be revealed.

The style of the prose could well be described as mystical, or somewhat less charitably, crapulent. Either way, as I've said before, the internet's a big place and I'm amazed that we've been visited by two poets of such singular ability.

As with most of Banshees' early posts the lines of text end at an odd position. It brings to mind someone hitting the enter key as one would have done at the end of a line on a manual typewriter. Again, the odds of two people with this peculiar modus operandi visiting the same site, in the same time zone, are either very, very small.

Did Royce ever actually post anything of note?

No. Just some "impenetrable pseudo-cabalistic blither ".

PS: I think this thread may be up for deletion soon.

Good idea. Can we have IYG back please?

Oh yes, nearly forgot. Why does it bug me so? I don't believe one should behave any differently on the interweb than one does in (ugh) 'The Real World'. You can be as mad as a cut snake as far as I'm concerned as long as you're honest about it. It would seem to me that this case falls outside of those very simple parameters.

  12. Verbally attacked? I was verbally attacked. She said it was hard for her to believe that I write poetry. Up to date I have written around 'one hundred twenty peices' in my young life. I would attempt to make a comparison example with you, but I don't know if there is anything that amounts to such a standard.

    How about this then Banshees?

    Whitney baby, Code 54000:

Death is the end of faith. Goodness endures continually. Mischief works

deceitfully. There is a dwelling place. There is a living land. But, devouring words

are deceitful. So, the green olive tree waits for the good as the devouring words

are rooted out. In the 30th year on the 12th month and the 25th day, garments

and diet were changed. You'll know the diet soon. When is the new moon? When

is the full moon? What is the diet?

I don't know if there is anything that amounts to such a standard.

  13. i've said that phrase many times before and she seems to be a very erratic person,

You didn't mean to spell it errotic did you? If erratic really is what you mean, I'm not sure Alanis Morissette could get close to articulating the irony.

BTW I agree with the Captain. Poor show old boy, poor show.

This should not be construed to intimate that I have developed any affection for LCR/RDW.

I agree with the Texan. Thank you CarolAnn, I couldn't have put it better myself.

  14. Hope you didn't take it too personally. I just heard that they're introducing a "biggest pedant" award for the next round.

I think you'll find its pronounced 'pedont' :P

    I think you'll find it's "it's" not "its".

I think you'll find that the period goes inside the quotation marks, not outside.

I think you'll find that is a stylistic difference between correct English and North American English.

I've been under that impression too Honez but can't find a link which I would in any sense deem to be authoritive, although the lovely folk at the Oxford English Dictionary seem to take Mr Quinion seriously enough, which I imagine would be good enough for most people.

I didn't think Sister Anne-David would have put us crook all those years ago.

My God - dare I say it? Perhaps the whore-finder general was right! :P

He goes away for a week and posting anarchy breaks out! :P

Speaking of not around for a bit, where's Tempus? Does the 'where's Tempus' thread need re-opening?
