  2. I feel like locking this thread or deleting it but I'm still at college at this moment so I'll let another mod decide what to do with it.

    Neither locked nor deleted ...

Just merged with existing TB thread.

  3. Ongoing discussion ...

Anyone know if there is truth in those rumours that there are people out there who want to see the dear, harmless old Moomins banned?

Given that most of the Moomin books were written in the 60's, then stopped, you'd think she died way back then, but Tove Jannson actually only died a few years back.

Seems she just got fed up with the characters.

  4. Does a forum with less than 40 active members really need 14 Moderators ( Mr Stats not included ). Seems a tad excessive. Too many chiefs and not enough indians, mostly when you log on now the Mods outnumber the Members.

Some of the mods/admins aren't active at the moment.

Also it helps us control the ranters, particularly when a popular death comes up (just wait for Maggie T). And there are a fair number of members who pop by fairly regularly too. But don't post 300 times a week.

Many were considered, some more almost passed ...

  5. Like the way it says a complication is Sudden Death ...

Oh, and who edited your post M.Hein ?

Anyway, what did anyone think of John McCririck's little talk at the funeral.

Although it was possibly not the best place to raise the point, I do think he was right when he said it was a slight that Tony Blair didn't turn up for the funeral of his own ex-foreign minister.

  6. Why is everyone in the UK so down on Maggie?  My own limited understanding and vague recollection was Britain in the late '70's was going exactly nowhere, and that Mrs. T, by fair means or foul, got the country pointed in the right direction.

Or do people miss strikes, unemployment, and inflation?

She took brutal advantage of Labour's dire failure to present a decisive and competent alternative to trample with jack-boots over social justice, cohesion and workers representation.

Do you think people went on strike for no reason? Don't forget the image you had of strikers from the press was also orchestrated by the Tories (even before they were in power).

She got the country moving, but not in the right direction. Also her murdering of British industry did absolutely nothing for unemployment. As didn't her privatisation of anything and everything.

This is quite a fair description of some of what she did.

    /end of political rant. sorry.

Directing us to the Socialist Worker, hey ?

I would imagine they'd have a very unbiased view of Maggie ;)

I have to agree with Cowboy Ronnie's summation of where the UK was when Maggie came in.

And despite your rant, she did win 3 elections, which means more people thought she was going to be better for the country than the other choices available.

    Which weren't great.

Don't you like the democratic process ?

    Two sides an' all that.

PS I think it hightly likely she'd get a Ceremonial funeral, given how long she was prime minister, and her status on the world stage. Not to mention the politicians wouldn't want to seem small minded not to give her one.
