So basically what you are saying is that those of us who picked her can count our points? Is that not the name of the game.

Both Philpots are worth watching depending on which Prison they go to. If Mick ends up in the likes of Wakefield or Frankland he should be ok. Strangeways, Winson Green ect and I don't rate his chances. I have just seen Wikipedia has listed Philpot as a notable Wakefield inmate. There you go then. He will fit in really well there.

Authors Last A Long Time, But....
Going Underground replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList Forum
Any James Herbert anecdote is better than No James Herbert anecdote. The bit with the shears in the gym is one of Herbert's and is from 'The Fog' That whole of the gym part was pretty shocking I must admit!! -

Going Underground, you've been around for years, When are you going to get an avatar? As for Herbert, RIP and all that, but I thought the few works of his which I trudged through in my youth were truly execrable. 'The Fog' stands out as a particularly poor example of horror writing, livened only by the hilariously gratuitous lesbian scene. Ok DDT, i now have an Avatar, and this particular guy is on my list for next year. Fancy a guess at who he is? (no cheating and using an internet picture identifier thingy.) Gotta disagree about Herbert. As a 14, 15 yr old I was hooked on his books. Lying in bed late at night ,cozy, reading his books by lamp light brings back some really good memories of a carefee youthful time. To be honest, I love that British Urban horror writing genre. I also got into Shaun Hutson's books a few years later. Good Liverpool Fan is Shaun Hutson and regularly at Anfield like myself. I am reasonably well read but no academic by any means as you can probably tell. I guess i just like Pulp Fiction. -

Like most of us who post on here we are pretty heartless bastards at times, but I am genuinely saddened at the James Herbert news. I absolutely love his books and when I made the move from childrens books to Adult fiction many years ago (via Razzle and Rustler) 'The Fog' and 'The Rats' were the first books I read. I still occasionally pick up both of these and read them from time to time. Only finished reading 'The Magic Cottage' quite recentley. This is seriously a wake up call as to how old i am now becoming -
Lisa Lynch Obit is in the Guardian today.

DDP team 'Deathdefying' must be fuming. He picked Clive along with me back in 2010 then unique picked him 2011, 2012 He didnt bother this year but someone else did.
-
Was he ever mentioned in the end? No was he hell Mentioned in every Australian news outlet known to man including the Australian version of 'The Guardian' and SKY News Australia but nothing in the UK. I guess me and the others need to kiss those potential points goodbye.

Like Stardust I'm waiting on the Harvey obit which looks increasingly unlikely as the days pass by. 'The Guardian' say they have no room for his obit. Wow thats a nice way to treat one of your ex-employees and former Reporter of the year for the same paper.

The news on Kim Jong-Un's auntie, Kim Kyong Hui has gone rather quiet of late. She was reported to be in a rather delicate state of health due to drinking problems. She is also married to one of the key political figures in N Korea Jang Sung-taek. Jang Sung-taek is considered to be second in command to the Supreme leader, so needless to say he posseses a great deal of clout in N Korea, therefore having a Piss head wife won't go down to well and news is probably being kept very quiet on her well being. This is the trouble having N Korean picks in your DP teams. Being in a Dead Pool is quite educating i must admit. I know more about N Korea and their Political structure now than i did a few years ago To quote a Mr A Partridge. "Wikipedia has all but made University Education worthless"

He won reporter of the year while at the Guardian. That must warrant an Obit although stranger things have happened. My luck with Aussie picks over the years has been bad. See my DDP 2007 Joker pick Stan Zemanek.
-
The Guardian being a bit slow with their Peter Harvey obit. I'm getting ever so slightly worried now. Surely he will get some kind of Obit from the UK papers???
-
Was just about to start an Aussie related thread with a 'down under' pun. Thankfully saw this thread at the last second and avoided ridicule. Checking on my DDP picks today and noticed the end is near for Mr Harvey. Seriously hope he doesn't suffer too much. Anyway, moving on. With him and Van Cliburn it promises to be a bountiful time. He used to work for the Guardian so a Guardian Obit is guaranteed

Yep, great work TMIB. Thanks for getting the teams up so dam quickly. Top man. Glad to see I have one Unique. Kim Kyong-hui (daughter of the former leader of North Korea, Kim Il-Sung.)

Would You Qualify For A 'hit', In Pool Terms?

I agree. If one of your current picks dies on New Years Eve it is unlikely any death announcement will be until the next year. I think the previous years final points count should not be officially announced until at least 3rd/4th Jan. But then who or what dictates whether it should be on the 3rd or the 4th or the 5th? Any cut-off point other than the turn of the year would be completely arbitrary...you'd just be moving the problem a few days forward if someone ended up getting the obituary on the 6th for example Yes understood Bert and agree but the way it is leaves the competition open for someone to have a valid pick in a current year and it not get counted and may cost them a vital leader-board place. May as well say the 31st December doesn't count. Ok, maybe have until at least 23:59 on 1st Jan. That gives exactly 1 day for a new years eve hit to get an obit/mention and score points for the team. Surely a NYE hit must be given at least 24 hrs?

reportedly dead Hakimullah Mehsud and his Successors
Going Underground replied to time's topic in DeathList Forum
Earlier, when i saw the headline "Pakistani Militant leader killed by Drone Strike" my head went in my hands and I immediately thought..Please not Hakimullah Mehsud. Prior to submitting my Dead Pool team i noticed Hakimullah had released a new video and statement that claims he may agree to negotiate with the government but most definitely WILL NOT be laying down arms. This was enough for me to remove him from the list as i can't see the US droning the guy if he is almost willing to at least negotiate matters. I remember the good old days during early 2010, when myself and DDT had Hakimullah on our DDP list and couldn't be certain if he'd been killed in a drone strike or not. Rightly so we never got the points as the new video of him and his mates with AK47's tells us the answer. They instead seem to have Droned another high profile Taliban militant Maulvi Nazir -
Guest_Simon_P12 - If i still submitted wish lists into the dead pool like i used to in my earlier pooling days then I would gladly use your list. There really are some cracking picks on there. Basically a real bunch of wankers. Although i have nothing against Peter Sallis or Vera Lynn to be honest. Number 9 - PLEASE let it happen!!!

Sent mine to TMIB on NYE but thought id best stick it on here too as i have not received receipt of entry confirmation yet. My list looks remarkably similar to lots of other entries posted on here. I'll be very, very surprised if I have a unique pick this year which will be a bit disappointing to be honest. Wouldn't mind seeing DDT's list if he decides to post it up Team Name: Going Underground. Joker (Pick 1): Anne Williams Pick 2: Kim Kyong-hui Pick 3: Van Cliburn Pick 4: Henry Cecil Pick 5: George H W Bush Pick 6: Reg Presley Pick 7: Fidel Castro Pick 8: Bonnie Franklin Pick 9: Damon Harris Pick 10: Peter Harvey Pick 11: Bernie Nolan Pick 12: Michael Winner Pick 13: Ryan O'Neal Pick 14: Dennis Frederiksen Pick 15: Hugo Chavez Pick 16: Kim Fowley Pick 17: Paul Madeley Pick 18: Roger Ebert Pick 19: John Edrich Pick 20: Katherine Crowe

Not sent mine to TMIB yet but Tony Greig needs to come off my list. Gutted

After my original bravado about my 2013 chances i now feel somewhat deflated. Just been right through my provisional list of possibilities and am none too convinced. Giving each possibility a 1-5 rating of dying (5 being the best chance), i only have two picks that even warrant a 4 let alone a 5 In the run up to this years comp there were loads of 5's on my list that all delivered Obits. Etta James, Robin Gibb, Geoffery Hughes, Jim Stynes. And the rest of my hits were solid 4's Unless my research has been seriously waning I don't see too many glaringly obvious picks this year. Biggsy, Mandela, Castro and the like have proved they have far too much resilience to be classed as bankers nowadays. For 2013 I predict the lowest scoring DDP since the new scoring system came in to play.

Feel good for 2013 boys. So close to a top 10 this year and that's still not out of the question yet. Imagine a boxer prior to the first bell, prowling nervously around his corner, menacingly staring down his opponent, occasionally banging the side of his head with his gloves. well that's me, Long golden robe adorned with a diamante cluster across the back spelling out the name 'Going Underground'. Prepared and ready for the DDP 2013 battle.
