I'll guarantee you now there'll be less jubilation than the day Thatcher died (and likely no ironic #1 record to follow)
Rightly so.

Obviously missed this news last month but read today that terrible Tom had passed. His torment is now over.
A real bad-ass no doubt but he really did have an example made of him for what he did in USP Marion back in the 80's.
Also read today that Barry 'The Baron' Mills died inside Super-max Colorado (ADMAX) last summer. He, like Silverstein was a major shot caller for the Aryan Brotherhood in prison.
In the context of prison gangs these two were seriously MAJOR players. Proper dangerous men in their day. It actually doesn't surprise me they both died of natural causes (allegedly)
With the passing of Mills I suppose Tyler 'TD' Bingham takes over the number 1 spot as incarcerated AB shot caller.

OK OK OK, Point taken

I know its early days but feel Dewar isn't going to get the QO.
His passing barely getting recognised in Canada to be honest
Ah well. Gamble didn't pay off (so far) but not been a bad old start.

5 Australians if Clive James still counts. Martin Plaza is my attempt at a unique-but very possible that an Australian theme team might pick him.
Doc, I'm really surprised you haven't gone for Michael Murphy
The murder of Anita Cobby was a massive thing over there and got plenty of coverage over here
Murphy is now receiving palliative care in prison (reported by the Mail in Sept). A shoe in for this year IMO and I'm sure the Daily Fail will oblige with an QO.

21 hours ago, Dr_T said:Thanks for the kind messages. There was certainly a good deal of luck involved primarily with avoiding Marieke Vervoort. If I had seen one particular story I would've selected her as my joker with all the others. Being Australian was no disadvantage, the Jessica Falkholt tragedy was front page news in the lead-up to new year's and Vanessa Goodwin was a tap in.
Of course it was the selection of SKS as joker which gave me the advantage. At some times during the year I thought this was a master stroke at others a mistake, but come about April it looked like bad news for him. I was saddened by his death, he seemed like he had a lot of good in him. I was also surprised and saddened by the death of Simon Ricketts, his Twitter feed showed that his good humour lasted till the end.
I never thought I was much of a chance of winning until Spade posted that he considered Pity Da Foolz favourite assuming Vervoort decided to live (and so it proved). Mrs T is busy bragging to her friends about her husband's achievement and only 95% of it is tongue in cheek. I have entered PDF again for 2019 but while I expect to be vaguely competitive I have included a couple of somewhat left field local picks which will give me a bit of difference to the other contenders.
Thanks to Spade for all his hard work during the year (especially the very frequent updates). My mind boggles at how long it must take to keep it all running. Perhaps I should also thank him for not entering DQSP which obviously makes it that much easier to win.
Good luck to all for DDP2019.
Cheers Dr T
Well done Mate
A nice winning post too.
Good on ye

Shit.
Do I get a sub in Spade?

I see Aussie murderer Michael Murphy has been picked. Bugger, he was my hope of a unique.
I think my only unique pick hope now is another (ex) jail bird, Alan Aspin. Obit chances might be slim though.

'Going Underground' in for season 14
Only just cracked the top 40 (so far) this year. Rubbish.
Looking at my team this year I reckon a top 20 is a possibility but who knows eh.
BBC local obits back in 2019 so no repeat of the Toothill debacle.
Cheers in advance Spade. Sterling work my man,

Ian Naude the ex-copper turned child rapist is just starting a 25 .
He will probably go to Wakefield and be relatively safe. Although even the nonces in there will love to do over an ex-copper
Tempted to put this fella in to my 2019 team to make up numbers if I'm short

One is the best player of the decade who never won a title before, one is a young breakout star, and one is an unheralded team who most people wouldn’t have said they had a shot of winning until this year.
Personally, I’m content with my overall performance and will be happy with wherever I place, as two years ago I never would’ve thought I even had a shot at the title. But here I am now, watching the last two and a half months to see which of the three of us will eventually win the title...

I agree with gcreptile, I think generally the overall quality of all the teams have improved from last year, and I think it's going to be quite hard to call a winner at this stage of the game. Reckon we won't know the most likely winner till around November/December, when the year comes to a close...
As long as its not you I'm cool

I jointly held the top spot for the first day in 2009 thanks to Claiborne Pell.
The oldest women in the world at the time then went and died on 2nd January and someone who had her as a Joker knocked me off

ok fair do's
cheers for the reply Spade

The full write up is on a regional page I agree. But the original mention of his passing is on the news site. the 'read more' link takes you to the regional

Hey Spade
Can we not have this as a Ian Toothill hit?
This page on the main news site clearly states and acknowledges that Ian Toothill has died
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/topics/cg5rv33092rt/mount-everest
Ok, if you click on the link on that page it then takes you too a regional page. The point is, you don't even have to go to the regional page to see the BBC have acknowledged his death.
