Renowned microbiologist Patricia Taylor died 9th September, aged 95. Outside of academia, she's better known for her role in the "Canadian Caper", as wife of the Canadian Ambassador to Iran, Ken Taylor, who concealed 6 US diplomats and helped smuggle them to safety (see also ARGO). She was also an accomplished ballet dancer (principal ballet dancer Queensland Ballet Theatre) and violinist (California Symphony orchestra).

I don't think I voted in this previously, but whatever, I've now selected Leslie Caron, for no reason at all.

Yes, the following week. Gaynor's Wikipedia entry also says the second appearance, 16 February 1964.

Ah, now Mitzi McCall was on the Beatles debut Ed Sullivan show - I wonder if someone got the two Mitzis mixed up.
-
According to her DDP bio, Mitzi Gaynor was the second musical guest on the night The Beatles debuted on the Ed Sullivan Show. I can't find any evidence of this - anyone have any details/link to anything?

I would expect full broadsheet obits to be along shortly. eta: like this one (Guardian, not a broadsheet these days, granted, but not People Magazine either).

Finland's first openly gay pro Ice Hockey player, Janne Puhakka, was shot dead by his ex-partner on Saturday. Puhakka is a contender on the current season of Finland's version of The Traitors, Petolliset.

Its another one of those 'nobody die' weekends, as I'm away; if someone can keep an eye on things I'll update when I get back. Ta very much.

Went for Chomsky because 'they' already killed him off once, makes me think he's not that far away.

Luis Tiant was a DDP pick last year (and the year before, and the year before that...) but not this. LotM @Death Impends

James Whale has had 3 dogs die in 3 months. Better hit rate than Katie Price. (I'm assuming that sentence about him marrying an amazing lad is a typo)

One (Another) thing that annoys me is the use of the word 'like' to mean 'including', as seen in the headline of this Telegraph obit for Robert Lansdorp. He didn't take players 'like' Sampras and Sharapova, he took those actual players.
