Its 12 years since the death of arranger, composer, performer and presenter George Webley, better known as Big George. He's remembered particularly for his TV theme tunes for example Room 101, and his most recognisable tune Have I got News For You. He was 53 and died after a heart attack (reportedly after taking mephedrone).

Czech ice-hockey player Petr Klima (Redwings, Oilers, etc) found dead at home in Czechia, aged 58. Scored the winner in the longest Stanley cup playoff game in 1990 (for the Oilers over the Bruins).

Thanks to boundary changes I'll be voting in a newly created ward this time round. My previous ward was either green or labour, depending on whose candidates/party fucked-up the least (generally those not in control). I expect this new ward will go Labour/Green, as those seem to be the only two parties doing any canvassing, although there's a strong independent showing this year which often appeals to people fed-up of the mainstream. Tories & Lib Dems have been conspicuous by their absence; one of the Tory candidates has had no presence whatsoever, either in person or on-line.

Singer, dancer and actress Liz Robertson is 69 today. She was the lead singer & dancer for the BBC's dance troupe of the 1970s, The Young Generation, and has been a prolific presence on the West End stage, less so on Broadway, where she's had roles in two plays, one of which closed after the first night and the other lasted 24 performances. She was also the eighth and final wife of lyricist Alan Jay Lerner, to whom she was 36 years junior, and was married to him at the time of his death.
