It's 86 years since the death of (Arthur) John Priest. Nicknamed "The Unsinkable Stoker", he survived the sinking of The Titanic (1912), the Alcantara (in combat, 1916), Britannic (sunk by a mine, 1916) and the Donegal (sunk by a torpedo, 1917) all after surviving two collisions in 1908 (Asturias) & 1911 (Olympic). After the Donegal sinking, he retired from the marine, saying no-one wished to sail with him any longer. He died, aged 49, from pneumonia.

Musician and composer Brian Bennett is 83 today. He was a regular performer on late 50s TV show Oh Boy before joining Marty Wilde as a member of the Wildcats before working with Tommy Steele. In 1961 he replaced Tony Meehan as drummer with The Shadows. As a composer, he wrote several library tunes which have been used for ITV Schools programmes, as well as music for film and TV including music for The Ruth Rendall Mysteries, Australian cricket coverage and films of Bradley Metzger. As he's produced albums for such diverse artistes as Demis Roussos and Drake.
