She wants the funeral hosted at her house in the form of a “party” or “celebration”.

I hate it when people do this.

It’s up there with folk who insist that you wear bright colours at their funeral. I own no bright coloured garments!

Danish monarchs have been proclaimed since the 1840s. Like most of the surviving European monarchies, they don't do UK-style coronations. The Belgians don't even have an actual crown.

It’s why the British monarchy is universally known (other than for formerly occupying much of the world) and these continental ones are non-entities.

I’m sure we could lend them a crown as we have plenty…

How many decades until we find out what was in those letters? I have a feeling it might not be for another 50-plus years, by which point I will be certainly retired... And who knows if this site will exist by then.

Don't worry about it. What we don't know, folks like Lady Colin Campbell will make up.

  4. You can't lock this thread. Surely it is part of our DL tradition for oddballs to claim inside information.

I, for example, know his hospice nurse Sandie who told me that Democrats are going to euthanise him tomorrow so his death upends the Iowa Caucas...BECAUSE THAT WOULD REALLY FUCK THINGS UP FOR DONALD TRUMP.

Apparently they got on very well, even when she was on her last legs she spent more time saying goodbye to Boris than welcoming Liz Truss

He lied to her in order to get her to prorogue Parliament - a move which turned out to be illegal and put her in constitutional hot water.

As Prime Minister he did more to disrespect her than any of his predecessors or successors.

If he stayed for any length of time in their last meeting it’s because he overstayed his welcome, much the same as when he clung on as Prime Minister.

Old age was given as the cause of death on Philip’s death certificate too whereas he had been having serious heart problems in hospital till couple of days before he died, its obvious he died from complications with his heart

The royal family will have asked for ‘old age’ in the name of privacy

So they went to all that trouble to cover up her cancer just to let Gyles Brandreth put it out there in an authorised biography of the King?

People die in all sorts of ways when suffering from terminal cancer. Particularly when very old.

Her private secretary said it was old age in what was effectively a closed document.

It so happens this is what it said on her death certificate.

As for the morphine, had that been the case the King wouldn’t have been away picking mushrooms.

As I'm currently in grief I don't feel like criticizing how anyone else lives it.

I assure I am devastated, yet I'm posting on the fucking Deathlist. There's no universal way to live pain.

Posting photos in the hospital with loved ones on deathbeds is, in my view, too far.

This is one of the worst threads on the fucking site, and I only say 'one of' because of snoozefests like University Presidents and the zoo exhibit that is World's Oldest.

    Lock it until Carter dies.

Still not as bad as Brinsworth House back in the day.

While Biden can;t be expected to micro manage every member of staff and their private lives he should be employing people who know everything about everyone, Tony Blair was legendary for knowing every intimate detail about everyone he employed, he kept a black book of every Labour MP’s tax dodging, sexual affairs, expenses fiddling etc that he knew when to use when the time was right, Biden should have hired dark arts employees to prevent such a situation

    You’re a special, eh?

I know he had a long career as a political strategist before meeting Kate, but it's a bit strange that all the headlines I've seen about him so far have called him 'Kate Garraway's husband Derek Draper' and not 'New Labour lobbyist Derek Draper'. Kind of insulting, when you think about it.

Is this why he is leading in almost every poll I see conducted with average Americans?

Also, why is there still a GOP primary at this point? We all know who is going to be the nominee. I know again they are not always reliable but have polls ever been off by 30 points? And also there are like a couple more debates left? what is the point of all that? such a waste of money and television time. None of these bozos is going to win and they all know that. Funny how what was touted as an exciting and competitive primary is now basically a Trump coronation ceremony.

Calm down dear. I agree that the Republican primaries are a waste of time because the party has been hijacked by the hard right and weak white men who can’t cope with fair competition from women and blacks.

As for the national polls, they are not as rosy as you are suggesting for Trump.

Biden only won last time round because Trump is so unpalatable. The percentage Trump doesn’t get in the Republican primaries are not likely to vote for him which will always be his failure.

This would have been a great post in the Coppers thread!
So knowing nothing of this, after reading your link is the scandal that 700 postmasters somehow conspired to cheat the system (as if), or that they were wrongly sentenced etc?

Essentially a computer problem was registering shortfall in end of day figures in post office. When the postmasters reported faults they were told they were the only ones and they would be responsible for shortfalls.

When they repeatedly complained the auditors were called in which led to postmasters being suspended and taken to court for theft.

It now seems likely that the Post Office knew there was an issue with their systems but prosecuted anyway, effectively defrauding postmasters of their own money.

The point of my post is this is something which has largely been known about for years yet, like with other issues, the MET police are now only investigating after presumably watching it in the television…

Presumably, even if it’s minor ailments, you don’t want your enemies to know your defense secretary isn’t at his desk.
