The first solid information we have had on the Dickie O front for days.
-
Its news to me that there are any Dickie O offspring.

Ignore the nonsense posted in this thread on the topic of Dylan. Two points need to be made. Firstly he is not in bads health. In fact he is probably in better health than any of his contemporaries, his touring schedule is a tesament to that. The weird thing with brid feaces a few years ago was a one -off ilness. He will be around for years yet and will probably spend the majority of those years creativly active. Secondly there is no way in which anyone with any degree of awareness of him or of music in general can claim that he is "no good". The nearest one can realistically come is something like "I do not find the voice appealing [and that I concede is a reasonable reaction] but I do recognise the astonishing facilty as a lyricist and unique position as a cultural icon and icon of political social comment". In short an astonishing individual but one with very little scope for being disscussed on Deathlist.

Bouddica closed it but should we re-open it? She/He said I should make a poll as the fairest way of deciding so here it is. (I have to go out for a few hours and will return about 9'ish to see how all is going. Cast my vote as a yes)
-
The poll's up folks.
-
Didn't tell you what to do. Phrased it as a question. Hope your daughter is O.K.. Will make a poll.
-
So at least we know who started all that nonsense.
-
I agree. Full of USEFUL INFORMATION (for the most part). Hence it being an act of idiocy to lock it.
-
DeathList has never been a Forum of free speech, It is a benign dictatorship. Maybe too benign. Did either you or Windsor say the same thing when the Moderators were trying to shut you two up?
-
Don't understand the question. What do you mean Windsor?
-
It's still shut love. How temporary is your "temporary"?

I'll confess I was the one labelling the Dickie O thread our common room. Then I come back from a day's hard work to find the common room shut. Running through the current thread I'm - frankly - gutted. If filth and off topic rants were enough to close a thread there are a few others ripe for demolition including some amongst the cherished top fifty. In fact, staying on topic with non-events of human beings like Casper Weinberger is the real challenge. Similarly, I understand the mods point about the level to which the final few dozen posts had descended but surely the point could have been made by ditching these. It's blindingly obvious from the rants here and the scarcity of mods fronting a comphrehensive case that we've got a customer service crisis on our hands. Could we - like - compromise by hitching this thread to the first seven hundred and fifty or so posts on the first Dicky O thread and get back to the serious business of discussing immenent death amongst those of high profile? As a loyal customer who didn't post a single smutty comment on Hayley Mills or Sally Thompsett I'm well miffed at present. It is not a common room. I for one hope to see a bit of a degeneration in his health so we can get him on the thread proper. (Only one man's opinion for any of the Brinsworthian legal people reading).

Sorry to hear about your daughter Boudica. Send her my warmest regards and best wishes for a speedy recovery. And then could you re-open the thread.

The point I was making Windosr is that there is no language in this thread crude enough for it to need to be shut down. I know you have had difficulties from moderators for posting "too much" (whatever "too much" may be in an internet forum) and was pointing out that there is simply no language "bad" enough to warrant it being closed or criticism of anyone posting on it.The idea behind closing the Old Richard O'Sullivan thread would appear to be that if a thread becomes excessivley popular or a user is making a great deal of use of the forum they can both expect to be shut down. You will recall that at various times yourself, TF, Banshees, and others have been subjected to this kind of pointless censorship. If there is going to be a limit to the popularity a thread is allowed to enjoy could not the moderators formalise it. "Each thread is only allowed 30 posts a day" or something of that nature. I realise of course that this is unlikely since it would mean the moderators who hold influence over this forum non-comensurate with the ammount of time they now spend here losing the appearence of being wacky guys with black senses of humour who simply enjoy hanging out on the internet and being revealed as controlling assholes. In short surely the requirement is for moderation rather than domination. What would you say? as I was saying
-
Yes, I quite agree, it was a place of good natured banter & guest initiated venom...but then someone closed it down without any proper explanation. All we have done today is campaign for its reopening in a good natured way, but certain moderaters seem intent on beating us into submission. And yes, there are 1208 threads here, but if one becomes inexplicably popular what exactly is the problem? I have to say that I also have a degree of disagreement with part of waht BHB is saying here. I do not consider the old Dickie O thread to be a place to let off good natured steam. Rather it is a place to gather information on his health and mental state with a view to possibly including him on the List proper. Why it has also become a place to talk about the state of Carlisle F.C. is beyond me. Could the person who actually shut it reveal themselves?

From whom have you received these complaints? Where is this excessive swearing?
-
We seem to be getting some outside publicity.
-
Heard Max on the radio at the end of last year publicising, if I recall correctly, his new CD. Sounded OK to me.
-
I wasn't aware that a Moderator had questioned the value of this thread. Give it time and they will.
-
I feel this thread no longer has value. Now it's just a race between Richard and the Pete Doherty thread. I have to say I also disagree with you there BS.
-
At work yes.

Dickie was very mellow in those pictures,he may once have had a drink problem but that is in the past. These days he mostly reads a lot, he enjoys old movies as well. As this website isn't commercial then Ray says feel free to use any pictures from the Brinsworth House site. If nothing else this site is generating more interest in Brinsworth, site traffic has certainly increased. Ray joked that maybe he'd put a link on Brinsworth's site to the Deathlist, at least I think he was joking, you can't always tell with Ray. Anyway why not tell him yourself about your thoughts on Brinsworth, just click on his name on the site and post your comments. To conclude I probably came on too heavy initially, but since this site is non-commercial and not malicious then fair enough. A hearty handshake to you Mr. Whitehouse. Sounds like quite a pleasant man.

Where the hell did you find that? Why is is Dickie mocking the afflicted?
