He's just talking American, you know. Tony Blair would be proud of him.

Guess they won't be showing up on next year's list, then.

Well, there are a whole lot of Diana fans at Royal Forums and no doubt elsewhere hoping and praying that the Queen outlives Prince Charles. It remains to be seen whether God (or the Invisible Pink Unicorn or the Flying Spaghetti Monster, depending on your worldview) is impressed by the sentiment behind such prayers.

They aren't all homicidal zealots, surely.

I wonder if any Halibut leaders will speak out against this nonsense. I don't suppose these idiots care what people in the West think about their homicidal ravings, but I assume some of them do care what their own religious leaders think. Mind you, if their religious leaders are like Pat Robertson...

His mother was the Queen Mother's niece. Edited to add: I see I should have read the rest of the thread before responding.

What an appalling bigot that man is. Appealing to ignorance and hate every time he talks in public. He isn't on the list for 2006 by any chance, is he?

Hasn't happened yet...

. Things aren't nearly that simple. The attack on evolution is part of a broader-based attack on science in general by social and religious conservatives in the USA. Having ID in RE lessons, even if they existed, wouldn't have the desired effect, which is to attack science and Enlightenment rational thought in the pursuit of a political and ideological agenda. This book provides a good, if rather frightening, overview.

We stop eating and start being eaten. Oh, yes - and our entropy increases.

Well, as someone at Panda's Thumb pointed out, intelligent design counts as a scientific theory if you completely redefine "scientific" and "theory." It would appear that the Kansas school board is attempting to do exactly that. And yes, it's religious to the core.

See, I was assured that people around here are intellectually stimulating rational thinkers (assuming their minds haven't been addled by an exclusive diet of root vegetables). I see I was misled. Such a disappointment...

That does sound a bit callous, but it was probably his agent's decision, not his. You could always write to him again and tell him that you've outgrown your youthful indiscretions (the ones that relate to him, at any rate) and tell him you hope he's also grown up a bit. See what sort of picture you get back from him in response then.

Well, if you've got a jacket with buttonholes, you could always use one of the buttonholes to anchor the poppy. Otherwise - you know - you could buy some pins...

Since at the moment she's the heir to the Principality of Monaco, her title is Her Serene Highness the Hereditary Princess of Monaco. Because of her marriage to the Prince of Hanover, she's styled Her Royal Highness the Princess of Hanover. However, this isn't an actual title because royal titles aren't legal in Germany (at least, I think that's how it is); it's more a sort of fictional courtesy type of thing. So, legally she's a Serene Highness but she's styled a Royal Highness.

For some reason, AOL logs me out automatically. I've started using my other ISP, which I hope will sort this out without resorting to having to bash the computer to pulp (although that smiley did look very tempting...)
-
Sounds better and better...

Grrrrr. Must try and get this computer sorted. I'm getting too old to have to remember all this faffing about with logging in every time I post.

Well, if there's a wish list going, I'd like to add Ayman al Zawahiri.

Responding to Captain Oates.

Slip him a pill? I didn't think Death List members were supposed to be that pro-active. Acute pancreatitis isn't usually deadly if people have good medical attention, but if the guy can't stop drinking he's going to be in a lot of trouble health-wise. At this rate, Princess Caroline is going to start rivalling Henry VIII for number of spouses.

Posting here would be a lot easier if you didn't let guests post...

Very droll, I'm sure.

I've still got the PM exchange saved. Not exactly deathless prose.

Indeed I am. There are just these interesting parallels - Sid the Sloth, Windsor the Troll... Thank you!
