  1. I was surprised to learn that John Astin (Gomez Addams) is still alive. He was born in 1930, so he was only in his early- to mid-30s when he appeared in the Addams Family.

Also, another old television actor, Gavin MacLeod, (the captain of the Love Boat) was born in 1931 and had a battle with alcohol in the past.

I thought he'd die'd a couple of years ago. Anybody want to confirm?

  2. In keeping with the all English theme so far, I went with Vera Lynn.

    Gerry Rafferty was SCOTTISH

    FAIL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well then, seeing as though they all came from the same island (the largish one located between Europe and Ireland) allow me to correct myself...In keeping with the all BRITISH theme so far, I went with Vera Lynn.

Thank you TheDeadman for bringing my attention to this mistake of biblical proportions, :burnash: your useful to have around.

That's like calling someone form Canada an American, or an Austrailian a New Zealander. (And vice versa)

Technically, someone from Canada is American, as is someone from the United States or Mexico or Brazil or Argentina...

I was going to add that but it was a bit too early in the morning to start thinking.

  4. OK. Nobody picked her. Thread closed. No doubt we'll have another poll shortly. Time to study the form.

Thread reopened to say that I did pick her:

Elizabeth Taylor. Over a month in hospital with congestive heart failure, she could be coming out in a coffin.

But in my haste to vote, I clicked the "view results" button instead of "vote". Sorry about that.

    Thread closed again. :banghead:

Thread re-opened to say "That doesn't count" and no one picked her.

    Thread closed again.

  5. She fell unconscious yesterday, admitted to hospital, now regained consciousness and stable, but sounds like she may already be into her last few days.

So sorry to see that Lard. I can't think of any words that would help other than you and your sister are in my thoughts.

  6. We exchanged some banter a few years back after I suggested the terminally ill should compete in sport, literally playing for their lives as the exercise boosted their immune systems and the public interest and television cash improved the quality of their lives.

Anyway, The Voice of Young Maryport and his chums are entering a 5-a-side league soon and we had much mirth playing around with team names on the theme above before deciding the league would probably decline a team labelled, say, HIV Eindhoven.

But the notion of a grimly funny name punning on physical misfortune and an existing team name does appeal.

So, do any of our DL footy followers have an idea fit to top the current front runner...Sharts (as in a fart with a little spattering of something solid) of Midlothian?

You could always use the team name I have in the xpert 11 league. Dyslexics Untied.

  7. Can anyone that's used a Kindle recommend them (or not) ? I do a lot of reading while out walking (not into lampposts or people, so far) and while there's nothing nicer than a good old paperback I'm thinking of taking the plunge. Not into a bath, obviously, as I'd imagine that wouldn't do it any good.

I got Mrs HCW one for Christmas as she can go through a couple of books a week. I would recomend one.
