Point well made CP. But Seinfeld might not be the best example cos I can't help but notice the brilliance of the writing AND of the acting. There's not many shows where that happens. -
They're the first cricket team to go to a World Cup and come home with the Ashes. Typical of the Pakistan team.............. when the pressure's on they start choking.

Townie - you are a jackass.

Mushtaq was also implicated in the gambling scandal a few years ago. Not sure if that is entirely consistent with the Halibut propriety so often publicly embraced by the likes of Inzy and Mushy. I think that even the conventional mortgage is considered offensive in the world of Islam.

Its not over yet - unless Kallis plays it like a Test match....... 'ang on............... Prince is out. Good news for Springboks everywhere as he's even slower than Kallis. PS Do we have any South africans on the forum? They are not known for their understanding of irony and wit so probably not. -
It has been suggested in certain quarters that Pakistan threw their game against the Irish and that Woolmer was going to blow the whistle. More likely, I suspect, that they threw their opening game against West Indies last week. At that time they would have been fairly confident that they would beat Ireland and Zimbabwe and still proceed. There were some very suspicious elements to that game - chasing over 200 they suddenly stopped scoring runs at a vital stage and ended up well short of the target. Remember that Inzamam had previous............

Have just looked back through the thread. Good stuff. Whatever happened to Pulphack? An excellent contributor. The very best commentators have voices that become part of one's memory of the event. Coleman was a great example. Carpenter, Benaud and Dan Maskell were others. Watching the cricket today, I am struck by how few of those guys are irritating. They are knowledgeable and can talk with intelligence and wit. The new generation have Mark Nicholas, Gower, Atherton, Hussain, Jimmy Adams, Michael Slater.......... even Bob Willis. Granted they have more time and there is a convention that they keep quiet once the bowler starts his run. I can only remember one cricket commentator who pissed me off - the Xenophobe cretin Bill Lawry....... though Botham, as the man never to resist a cliche, is beginning to grate. 'Buffet bowling ............ help yourself'. Ian -you are the only person who would have needed it explaining to them so don't bother with the 'help yourself'.....

I believe that at least one person picked him in his 2007 deathlist http://www.stuff.co.nz/images/283144.jpg

Good call; I mean, we've got an F1 and footy thread... Cricketers and suicide go well together, something we've discussed on the books thread with reference to the awesome Silence of the Heart. So we'll doubtless have much death related discussions, even for those of us who find the whole game a complete turn off. A cricket thread would be most civilised and is sure to upset a few purists. The sport has a greater body of literature about it than any other (unless you count chess) so there's plenty of mileage here. Did I tell you that I have have faced a ball from each of two Test match bowlers and took a single off each? (Actually I did tell you somewhere on this site) .

And Ireland have just beaten the Pakistanis by 3 wickets. Absolute class, finished it with a 6 too when only needing 1 to win... Pakistan are out, Ireland are through on St. Patrick's day! Ireland and Bangla Desh to win must have been a 60-1 double. Good for them. Rather fancy that the Irish fans will sink more booze than the Bangladeshis. -

Probably because no-one's surprised it happened. NZ as eventual winners would be very popular. Its wide open to any country ('cept maybe England!). Am currently watching Bangla Desh and Ireland stuffing Pakistan and India respectively. -
Although probably less sex savvy than your average girl bunny, who presumably go like, well, rabbits.... I was about to agree but quite literally mid post someone interfered with your q**m, although mine is touched up (now) and only one moderator was online I think I know the culprit... Once a waffle filter or double-entendre filter is invented most of my posts will just have their punctuation left. TLC - your quim (trimmed or untrimmed) is fine and dandy by me. Its a superb word which, like C-word or twat, has an earthy quality. Is it also onomatopoeic? Or is that just a feature of the ones I've encountered. Quim is also in Chaucer: Students are sly, and giving way to whim, He made a grab and caught her by the quim Finally, at 18 I did a gap year in a hospital where the drain cleaner, a real dirty old Dorset man, used to engage me in conversation- usually about sex. He once told me that you know that a woman's aroused when you get her tuppy a-poutin' and a-clickin' I don't think Thomas Hardy could have put it more poetically (or would have wanted to).

The Lighthouse Stevensons by Bella Bathurst. Wonderful stuff about Robert Louis S's ancestors building lighthouses such as Bell Rock and Skerryvore on bare Scottish rock. -

Great thread as most of us will come up with a different selection each time we answer (though not many will be French I fancy) My favourite three at the moment (all 2007 songs) are: First Night by The Hold Steady Yankee Bayonet by The Decemberists Phantom Limb by The Shins -
Some guy did that a few years ago. Apparently TV's Paul Shane (Ted Bovis in Hi-de-Hi) is a direct descendant.

Ethics my dear RM. If you have open house on any communication, why should anyone trust you...... ever? No self-respecting woman would ever shag a boy like you again! That's if they ever would have done in the first place.

I suspect that only in the last sentence did you approach the reality that is MPFC.

You're right. They were mainly in their mid-30s. However, when they are as good as Warne, for example, its probably best that the UK's thickest non-boxing sporting legend doesn't rile them. -

I watched it from my bed this morning. But I won't crow. Hubris invites nemesis as they say in these parts. Some of our compatriots, particularly journalists, have learned that the hard way in the last couple of years. I remain convinced that Ian Botham caused our Ashes humiliation by referring to Australia as 'Dad's Army'. -
A merciful reprieve for us all. What would we have done without you BS?

Rebecca, you're living in the past. Thank the gods the tourists have gone home....it's a bit late for you to be SUPPORTING your team now, isn't it, Professor?? When the chips were down you were ready to dump them right quick as I recall!!! There's no doubt I can be fickle Rebecca. I'm thinking of supporting New Zealand. I see that they trounced some second raters last night. -
Anubis the Jackal gives a link to what there is of the bus station story. A couple of years ago he had rather a louche web-site but its gone, alas.
