    King Charles III

Prince William talked to Donald Trump about Charles' cancer. https://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/1986548/prince-william-king-charles-health-update In the immortal words of Donald Trump: "And I asked him about his father and his father is fighting very hard, and he loves his father and he loves his wife, so it was sad." Still, apparently William makes a difference between Kate who is doing well, and Charles who is "fighting very hard". I mean.... Charles' cancer is terminal isn't it?

    Journalists

Popular meteorologist for the Columbus NBC channel Bob Nunnally, dies from cancer at 68: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-14173991/tv-reporter-dies-aged-68-months-declaring-cancer-free.html Just a few months ago, he had been declared cancer-free from pancreatic cancer. Next time, I guess I'll just pick the local TV guy with pancreatic cancer and hope for that Daily Mail obit... whenever there will be another guy. But then again, Nunnally survived it for two years.

Late Breaking! Mike Peters Of The Alarm!

I ... think that's from September. To be fair, he's been in remission and then back to cancer so often, it's easy to get confused.

Zzz.... nothing happening. I bet somebody thought about picking Arnold Yarrow, but didn't.

Who Should Be On The Deathlist 2025?

Alright, here is now where I add the names with my list, this will be updated, but for now: Geoffrey Boycott (have a feeling there) King Charles III (wouldn't want to miss him) Mitch McConnell

    President al-Assad of Syria

Probably not, but we weren't talking about all of them, but about the Syrians. The former are often "economic" refugees. The latter are those actually fleeing from war and the Assad government.

    Hospitalised!

The president of Srpska Milorad Dodik has been hospitalised and is about to have surgery of his stomach and esophagus.. hmm.... https://news.az/news/republika-srpska-president-milorad-dodik-hospitalized

    President al-Assad of Syria

It's always the well-educated people who leave. Syria will be fine. I actually thought it was rather cynical when Europe, and especially Angela Merkel decided to accept the Syrian refugees in 2015. It bleeds those countries dry. And European economies might almost wish for conflict abroad if it nets them more labour. (Which is why the Tories didn't manage to curb immigration - they didn't want to. Old school conservatives, like Ronald Reagan and Helmut Kohl actually never really do.)

    President al-Assad of Syria

Wikipedia just added the notable death of Ihab Makhlouf: https://chouftv.ma/press/731644.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ihab_Makhlouf He was a cousin of Assad and is among a couple of Assad regime people who were killed while trying to escape Damascus. Reliable source(s)? Anyway, looks like Assad himself was wise to escape.

Africa?? I heard that without the Syria base the Wagner troops im Africa have no support. Which African countries are allied with Syria and Russia to take him? Is it misinformation? (I think the Ukraine War turned me into a Cold War warrior - from my couch)

Yes, people with a Wikipedia page are automatically qualified as notable enough for me.

Thank you both for the interest, and for the answer, @livingbygrace By the way, I think next week is the time when I delete my 2024 PMs to make room for more.

    President al-Assad of Syria

He doesn't want to have the USA involved - which nobody is asking for anyway? Also an interesting spin that he says Russia is only in Syria to make Obama look foolish - forgetting that they have been there for a looong time.

    Checkmate

Well, the latest game was good to fall asleep to, because Ding is happy winning the faster tie-breaks... ...anyway... I am very impressed that Leonard Barden still has his weekly chess column at age 95: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2024/dec/06/ding-liren-gukesh-dommaraju-miss-wins-world-chess-championship-nears-climax https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Barden It makes me wonder who the oldest person with a regular newspaper column is/was. He must be up there, and probably has a high chance of becoming a centenarian. Edit: Well, looks like the record to beat might be Sid Hartman: https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/longest-serving-newspaper-columnist
  18. I've been wanting to create this thread for a while... We've all heard of Bryan Johnson, the millionaire who is doing everything to reverse his aging: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryan_Johnson Well, he was on a book tour in India and experienced throat and eye burn there: https://in.mashable.com/culture/86052/age-reversing-millionaire-flags-serious-health-situation-in-mumbai-my-throat-and-eyes-burn He seems destined to die of something rather stupid, or even get cancer from all the supplements he takes. Still, I've been interested in him and the anti-agers in general and wonder if there's something to it or not. There's actually a ranking of all of them, i.e. who rejuvenates the most (Bryan Johnson is currently 5th): https://www.rejuvenationolympics.com/ So I'd like to have place to document their failures (or successes). A very long-term thread.

So, How's Your 2025 Shortlist Looking?

My research does not yield a lot of "cult picks, will be on 4-5 teams" names. Though I have to face it, my DDP form this year was already bad. I can't find enough half-decent names for a third team either. And I am getting very tired of MTT, NSS, SMcM, etc...
