He's not yet there where, say Frank Field, is, or Bill Turnbull in his final years was, in my opinion. He's still fighting the inevitable, and I assume the situation is somewhat under control. But I can already see it, he gets dropped from the DeathList next year and then dies.

Australian gambling industry whistleblower Troy Stolz has settled the court case with ClubsNSW: https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/feb/07/clubsnsw-settles-case-with-terminally-ill-whistleblower-troy-stolz A DDP pick of mine, and while the Guardian has been on the case, I do wonder about the obit chances now. Also makes me wonder if the settlement was finished because Troy Stolz is running out of time, with his end-stage cancer and all. The tweet in here doesn't have the best spelling, maybe a sign of failing health.

Maybe it's just a naming issue, no biggie.

Shoichiro Toyoda, former chairman of the Toyota corporation has died at 97: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2023/02/14/business/corporate-business/japan-shoichiro-toyoda-toyota-dead/ Yahoo/Reuters QO: https://uk.news.yahoo.com/news/1-shoichiro-toyoda-son-toyota-100631376.html (more will come, surely) DDP pick.

San Antonio mural artist Jesse Trevino has died at 76: https://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local/article/san-antonio-jesse-trevino-death-17782096.php A former Deathrace pick, he had the urgent thoughts and prayers a bit more than a year ago. He lasted quite long for that.

Yahoo very likely has a licensing deal with CBC for copy/pasting. So every nationally prominent canadian should QO. But that lasts only as long as this deal. Still, maybe I should have thought more about suitable canadians.

Thread for noted eccentric and former sitcom heroine Roseanne Barr. 67 years old now and quite a long history of mental and physical health issues, including a rumoured heart attack in 2018. Now calls Donald Trump the first woman president:

UFOs, Space Aliens and the like
gcreptile replied to Banshees Scream's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Aliens are trending on twitter. The unknown object above Alaska, another object right now above Michigan. What's happening, especially so shortly after the chinese balloon story? A deflection? A deflection of the deflection? Are the aliens going to have revenge for their shot down object? -
Roseanne is back as a get-off-my-lawn-and-my-gender stand-up comedian: https://twitter.com/ResisttheMS/status/1624188966194020353 Note, it's on Fox Nation! She's gotten a little slim, but I guess it could be worse.

Also, work on the photos for the first-time picks of 2023 has been finished. A big thank you to @time, @Toast, @Book, @Octopus of Odstock, @wannamaker and @Estuarian Float for their contributions. The game grew again this year, and all you people were very creative in your choices. Lots of fields are covered, lots of people from all kinds of backgrounds are included. Not everyone had a photo on the web, so occasionally we got creative, and occasionally not. If you happen to have a photo for our invisible people, feel free to tell.

Alright, I've added two more teams that were still out there, including yours, @TheKeysOfMarinus. These two teams actually lead to an expansion of the Drop 40. Glynis Johns and Stanley Baxter are now also in. The Drop 40 consists of 43 names now. Unfortunately for some, there are 3-4 names that have lost their uniqueness because a late added team has picked them as well. And with that, I'd like to close the gates shut for 2023. 519 teams, this is it. Admittedly, there was a personnel turnover and some need for getting accustomed to the teams submission process. But now in mid-February, I hope everyone has checked their teams, and so there is no more forgotten team out there. However, I will still check for name changes, and an update of the statistics. While one CAN do it all manually, I'd like to try a more automatic approach, meaning that in the ideal world, once the new game is up, the teams and celebrity info is perfect, and I can plug this new database for the year into a file that updates "name", "years in DDP" and "best rank" automatically. But since that is not required for the game to run smoothly, a rush to finish that is not needed (and not many people complained that some stats were outdated last year).

I saw the thread, but Krenz will survive him, imo.

Egon Krenz is probably the prime candidate for last surviving old-school / Eastern Bloc commie. He's 85 years old now, and was at a book reading three weeks ago, still looking stable, and generally makes an upbeat impression: https://www.nnn.de/lokales/rostock/artikel/egon-krenz-liest-aus-biografie-aufbruch-und-aufstieg-in-rostock-43973813

I think he'll get a Times/Telegraph obit, hell, maybe there'll be a combined obit for him and Ivan Silayev.

I'll have a look on Saturday.

Blazevic is a DDP unique for Banana's B-team by the way. Only B-team because he thought there weren't any bonusses to Blazevic. But then apparently, everybody thought so, and so nobody really picked him. (Also interesting for the discussion on whether unique picks in the DDP should get even higher scores. I'm against it, because you can get an almost game-breaking bonus by luck.)

Miroslav Blazevic is hit no 3 for me.

DDP obit punt Mike Sertich, B-list ice hockey player and coach, here looking a little roughed up by his pancreatic cancer treatment, but not at death's door yet: https://www.startribune.com/mike-sertich-minnesota-duluth-hockey-brett-hull-bobby-hull-patrick-reusse/600248451/

Rapper Boom P - boom dead: https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/10182969/boom-p-dead-rapper-tributes-fans/ Seems to me like a comparatively minor name, but I'm not with it.

DJ Bubba Bo Boulanger has died, hit for wannamaker: https://www.wvxu.org/media/2023-02-05/remembering-eric-bubbo-bo-boulanger-radio-host-tvkiese (Edit: He died on Friday, so steals the Bobby Deane award retroactively, so to say - if you go by date of death instead of reported day of death)

The Daily Mail obits don't always appear for me - maybe a location issue. I have been unable to find these oobits even with extremely narrow searches - I think it's the wire articles that have this problem for me, not the regular Daily Mail articles.
