Pete Sampras labelled "unrecognizable" by the Daily Mail, people are upset: https://www.sportskeeda.com/tennis/news-you-guys-trash-serena-williams-ex-coach-jumps-pete-sampras-defense-labeled-unrecognizable-major-news-outlet He does look his age and then some, imo. Quite the aging recently, so yes, the cancer fight of his wife is taking a big toll on him.

Congrats Banana, well done.

Here's the thing why Biden will win again (unless he has a mental stumble): https://www.axios.com/2024/01/19/us-consumer-sentiment-index-umich It's like Reagan's 1984 campaign, although slightly delayed. Look at Reagan's approval as the USA was still stuck in the 1980/81 recession. Once that was over, his ratings shot upwards. Similarly, Biden looked worst not too long ago with inflation rising and no end on the horizon. His ratings will improve, he's behind Reagan's curve though.

Yes, maybe I'd even use the word "notability". Some people are clearly unknown, but have a certain degree of notability. The DDP is also coming from the other direction, i.e. it used to be "anything goes". Alt Obits might be moving slightly to the other side - or it's that we try more, so that the more marginal cases get through. But in the end, there is no universal standard. So the history of the DDP being more lenient, counts for something.

BBC Ulster veteran Walter Love dead at 88: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13013071/Veteran-BBC-broadcaster-Walter-Love-dies-aged-88-broadcasting-career-spanning-77-years-including-popular-Love-Afternoon-show.html They already did all the name jokes with his show "Love in the Afternoon".

It was hard to avoid him in the usual google searches. You cant fault anyone who picked him (which includes me, ahem). But if he doesn't obit, its a boost for all those teams who didn't quite go for all the obvious point grabs. Day in the Death might be one of those teams, maybe also the B-team. But the year has barely started. There might even be a one-sentence mention in an article about his successor, or something similar.

Huh.. All that blustering about feeling much younger will catch up with him now, now that the facade is gone.

Depends imo if there's a "paid tributes to" article for the funeral etc ... but yes, I'd say the probability is now below 50%

German music journalist Jan Wigger, main music critic for SPIEGEL, dead at 50: https://www.spiegel.de/kultur/musik/jan-wigger-musikjournalist-fuer-spiegel-und-rolling-stone-gestorben-a-7eb13663-3b27-44f8-841c-43406901199c He was a bit too hipster to me, but I still read his opinions. Seems like middle age deaths of music journalists are an international phenomenon.

Next suggestion, just to throw the name out: Barbara "Barbie" Handler, aka daughter of "Barbie" inventor Ruth Handler. 82 years old now and upset that Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig did not receive Oscar nominations (except for the script).

Pig heart valve barely better than a pig heart, noted.

Huh.... I always thought that Rasputin and Dschingis Khan were produced by the same person. Turns out that Ralph Siegel only copied Frank Farian.

DDP pick for one team, though.

Damn, I think we had him briefly in our sight last year. He did have some problems.

Sadly, I think that's going to be Canadian Ice Hockey player Glen Cochrane. Padgett might have to wait until the year-end BBC round-up.

I predict the grim reaper is going to confound sceptics and be its most powerful yet like a super strong enema in 2024 moreso than recent years equalling or even beating 2020

Well... Sunday is still only on 5 notable deaths on Wikipedia. So it's actually one of the quietest days that there are. -
