In 1961 Bert Kaempfert became the first German to top the Billboard singles charts with “Wonderland by night”. He was also the composer of worldwide hits like “Strangers in the night” and “Spanish Eyes”. On June 21, 1980 he died at his home on Majorca aged 56 because of a stroke.

Peter Allen, Australian songwriter and entertainer, died on the 18th of June 1992 from an AIDS-related throat cancer. He had an Australian No.1-hit with “I go to Rio” in 1977, was married to Liza Minnelli (from 1967 to 1974) and won an Oscar for Best Song in 1982 for “Arthur’s Theme (Best that you can do)”.

Hole-bassist Kristen Pfaff died on June 16, 1994 because of a heroin overdose at age 27. That’s her criterion for entering the exclusive Club 27; 72 days after Kurt Cobain, the husband of her band colleague Courtney Love.

Dame Peggy Ashcroft was 77 years old when she received her Oscar for “Best supporting actress”; in 1985 she was the oldest actress ever to win the award. Six years later, on June 14 1991, she died of a stroke.

And now his "colleague": Actor DeForest Kelley, maybe better known as his most significant role Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy of the USS Enterprise, died at June 11th 1999 because of stomach cancer.

Munich, 10.06.1982: Film director, actor and screenwriter Rainer Werner Fassbinder died at age 37. The cause of death was reported as heart attack resulting from a lethal combination of sleeping pills and cocaine. Fassbinder is considered one of the most important representatives of the New German Cinema (Neuer Deutscher Film) of the 1970s and 80s.

@ Spade & Lord: Both of you are right: The Club 27 is about musicians (as I wrote above) and we should suggest about realistic possible deaths. My bad. But I think that there is enough space in this topic so we can expand. We should be "allowed" to talk about actors, athletes, politicians whatever as long as they are dying at 27. I admit that they never will join the "real" club, that's for sure. So I say: Watch out for Amanda Bynes (as mentioned in several other threads) and Lindsay Lohan (...) because both are living their lives on the edge (sometimes).

One of the unnamed and unofficial members of the Club 27: Alexandra. Born as Doris Treitz on May 19, 1942, Alexandra became a German chanson singer with songs ahead of their time. Her deep voice and her moody/melancholic songs were different from the popular and cheerful Schlager but her music was well received by the audience and the critics. On July 31, 1969 Alexandra was killed in a traffic collision at the age of 27 years and 73 days.

31 years ago, on May 29 1982, international film actress Romy Schneider died because of a cardiac arrest (maybe caused by taking alcohol and sleeping pills). She was 43 years old.
