Typical woman driver, manages to crash on a relatively straight bit of road. She oughta try driving through the rather bendy Sally in the Woods in a Fiat 128 at rather-too-many miles per hour, losing the back end on a hill with a rather large drop to the left, regaining control, and carrying on to the cinema to watch Terminator 2, all without shitting her pants. Bet she can't I have to agree. A sigifiicant number of women drivers should never have been granted a licence to begin with - the blue rinse brigade trundling along at 30mph in their Micras, and the mothers behind the wheels of huge four wheel drives on the school run or in the supermarket carpark immediately come to mind. I don't want to sound politically correct, but by the same reasoning many men should be banned from driving. regards, Hein -
He doesn't detail what his illness is, or whether or not he expects to see this year out, but maybe one to bear in mind for next year if he does. So time is running out for the man who wrote "Repent, Harlequin!" Said the Ticktockman. Inevitable, but still ironic. regards, Hein

There are rumours in Colombian and Dutch media that she's been killed in action, in the same raid in which Mono Jojoy, a top Farc rebel leader, is reported to be killed. Could be a massive points bonanza for Vaagheid if: 1. She is dead 2. She gets an obit 1. according to some Columbian sources it seems likely that she died2. I fear she won't get the right obit, DDP-points or not i am still very proud that i predicted her death. Prepare yourself for a disappointment: the Colombian Defense Ministry reports a woman killed in the raid is not Ms Nijmeijer. I haven't found an English news source for that, but I'll keep my eyes open. regards, Hein

Which is probably the reason she's still single - she can masturbate to her heart's content without feeling as though she's cheating. She'll probably still masturbate with a guilty conscience: regards, Hein

The ultimate judge of that is one's taste, which doesn't always follow rules. Bad technique is part of it. With farfetched rimes and scanning poorly, lots of half-rimes work OK. Yet there is more to it; Ivo de Wijs (poet) researched the topic and got to the core. One of his books on things versificational (yes, he wrote several) tells us some more. He claims that part of the work of the crap maker lies in his turning his hurts to clichés. Then on the other side crap poem readership turn the clichés back to hurt and some pay. regards, Hein

David Thompson has indeed been diagnosed with cancer. Inoperable pancreatic cancer to be precise. Good candidate then, if he makes it to 2011. regards, Hein

I know she can... Are you saying that you have prior knowledge of the thread-starter's poetry prowess? Whatever could that mean.......... It's reasonable to assume that KK is able to write crap poetry. I deny all further knowledge. regards, Hein

Things To Do While Waiting For Death... 2010

Another reason to hate the Flammands by proxy? I wish they'd stop quibbling on about independence and just do it, no-one outside of the 10 or 11 million Belgies gives a hoot, or even realises a split is on the cards. I get along with them quite well, provided Flemish nationalism is not being discussed. I'm not claiming all Flemish nationalists are complete or partial Nazis, but the collaboration of a sizable part of them with the Germans (in both World Wars) are stains that will not go away. Such good sense is indeed incompatible with being a polititician. As I understand it, Brussels is the main reason Belgium still exists, as both sides want it. One bit of amusement in Brussels is ordering drinks. Staff pretend they don't understand Dutch when you order koffie or bier. Strangely enough they have no problem decoding the order at the end of the session: de rekening and promptly present the bill. regards, Hein -
Things To Do While Waiting For Death... 2010

For the same reason most Dutch teachers prefer teaching Dutch Literature to Dutch language, I think. Unfortunately I don't know that reason. Many Dutch speak and write English at an acceptable level. Many who do also think they're really good at it, which is rarely case. I was surprised to hear Mr Wilders (a fascist anti-islamic blithering idiot politician) give a speech (at a rally in New York last Saturday) in good English. I suspect he used a ghostwriter. Of course, if you want to learn decent Dutch, don't go to the Netherlands, but rather to Flanders. Each year a Dutch spelling competition is held, Het Groot Dictee der Nederlandse Taal, which is almost always won by a Fleming. regards, Hein -

I tried a few classic beginnings. I don't expect Google Scribe to win literary prizes anytime soon: Shall I compare thee to a summer camp for children with special needs and their families in the area. Call me Ishmael review of the literature on the subject of the present invention. It was the best of times and then they will become more apparent from the following detailed description. Happy families are all alike in the several States and Territories to the north of the city of New York. It was a dark and stormy night in their own right and do not want to be related. Sometimes the stupid programme loses track: A spectre is haunting Europe and the United States and Canada and the United States and Canada and ... I agree. As I understand it, one of the mods (name withheld to protect the innocent) removed some of your posts in an attempt to avoid escalation and put off other DL posters. I have, at this moment, no opinion on that, since I haven't read those posts. I probably never will; as I understand it they've gone the way of all bits. The matter has my attention, as per my job description. I'll let you know the results. As far as I'm concerned it stays here. Your complaint (if that's the word) is valid, whether those posts were deleted in accordance to the Unwritten Rules or not. Compared to some other fora that I know, moderation here is pretty relaxed. More than 90% of the deleted posts are duplicates, quote only posts and, of course, spam. Otherwise, content is very rarely cause for removal. Posts that do not address the topic and which contain just insults and provocations often go, though. Again, I don't know if your posts were of that kind, so they may or may not have been deleted for a good reason. There is no formal moderation policy, and I don't want one. I trust the mods' judgement and I don't check their work unless I have serious reasons to do so. I've done so only once, when I was made aware that a mod had turned to the Dark Side. Unfortunately, you'll have to take my word for all this. I'm aware that you have no way of verifying what I write above. Moderation won't go in Room 101, but it's good to discuss it every now and again. regards, Admin Hein

That'll be me then. I did some research and have reasons to believe BCAlum lives in the eastern part of the USA, probably Philadelphia, PA. I see some practical problems. Philly is large, hired men are expensive, DL is poor and I don't think that Rent-A-Killer accepts credit cards. Oh, and it's illegal, of course. regards, Hein

Watership Down wasn't bad, but a long read. I tried some of his other books, I couldn't finish them. A much overrated writer. regards, Hein
