Amnesty Int'l founder, Peter Benenson, dies at 83

 

Peter Benenson had been ill for a number of years, so his passing was not unexpected. The thing that is rather remarkable is what he was able to accomplish during his life. Who would have thought that an initial 1-year campaign to free 2 students that were imprisoned in Portugal for making a toast to liberty in 1961 would grow into an international organization that crusades for victims of human rights abuses.
