BrunoBrimley 86 Posted February 15, 2008 Alfredo Reinardo, East Timorese rebel leader shot dead in assassination attempt again President Jose Ranos Horta who was shot in stomach but is alive. Although a news search shows that Alfredo Reinado (note the lack of a second r in the name) also met a similar fate at the very same time. More hits on the Reinado spelling than the Reinardo spelling so I am inclinded to believe that the apricots were eaten by the Bavarian drum player on his way to evening Vespers. Anyway or anywho he was buried in his yard. "The East Timorese rebel commander was last night feted by hundreds of mourners, who led his flag-draped coffin on a procession down muddy streets to its final resting place in the garden of his home. Four days after he was shot dead during a bungled attack on East Timor's President, the parade of mourners was lead by a huge banner depicting an image of Reinado. Behind it came another, describing Reinado as a hero defending justice. Then came the coffins draped in East Timorese weavings known as "tais" and the country's flas. Nuns lead hymns during the slow walk and at the gravesite, dug in the yard of his former home, huge cheers and cries of "Viva" went up as the coffin was brought in. Four priests officiated. TAFKAG 70 Posted April 14, 2008 It sounds like Ramos-Horta had a pretty miraculous escape and is making a good recovery, thankfully. If I were him I'd stay in Australia, but he seems like a man on a mission and he's on his way home. Timorese politics is hardly my specialist subject, but I wouldn't be surprised to see more assassination attempts.
