Only by accident did I find this forum, any self repecting human being...even if you have a 'morbid curiosity' or not, would refrain from the insulting and blatent taunting of anyone (and his/her family) when they are near to death. FRED DIBNAH never harmed anyone (the opposite in fact)....he was well respected.

Lets not get carried away by the Saint Fred brigade. Mr Dibnah was just another bloke, interesting to some, irritating to others.

I doubt his first two wives would call him a saint.

Like most of us he had his good points and bad.

I for one wouldn't give a toss what people say about me when I am gone and I doubt Fred gives a toss either.

Sure for the most part he was probably a decent bloke, but some of the ranters seem to think he was Jesus Christ.

 

Whatever the motives for this site, it does remind us of our own mortality and that we should remember we are ALL here but for a brief time.

 

I hope God lets him out now and again to keep the Chimneys of Hell operational!

Posting a string of expletives to make your point that you find the site offensive really is beautifully ironic.

 

Of course, there are some people that make their point more sensibly. To those people, just a recap on what has been said many times:

 

DeathList is supposed to be humorous - Not everybody will find it humorous and, because of its subject matter, it may cause offence to some - but, hey, you don't have to visit here, and you don't have to point here. You may think it's sick but there's plenty sicker in the world - just have a look around you.

 

No harm is actually intended to any of the people discussed or their families/friends. This is basically just a prediction game trying to forecast events that are outside everybody's control.

That's definitely something I've noticed over the past few months as well. It's rare that someone comes along and says they're offended by this forum without resorting to swearing, hurling random insults, and making numerous elementary spelling and grammatical mistakes. Dare I suggest that there is, in general, a correlation between a person's level of intelligence and whether or not he/she appreciates (or at least doesn't have a kneejerk reaction against) black humour??

Such subjects as this are too complicated for your average "Chav" to appreciate, much like the posionous fish who's name escapes me, but requires meticulos preperation to enjoy this delicacy, your average "Chav" would just chuck it in a frying pan and die a painful death. Most "Dangerous" subjects require a certain amount of brainpower and common sense to enjoy.

Unfortunatly the common reaction is to demonise everything that Joe Pleb can't cope with.

That is why in the UK, 17 year olds are allowed to drive high powered sports cars that can be driven into bus queues but sensible people who have lived to be 50 without ever so much as a police caution are not allowed to have a handgun in case they loose control & shoot someone. Of course any Psyco who wanted to take out a school etc would be able to make a huge car bomb out of weed killer & sugar following simple instructions available on the internet (AKA Tim Mcvie PLC).

Perhaps I am ranting a bit myself about a personal interest, but I wonder if most people who rant in disgust at this site are perhaps demonstrating not their concern for relatives of nominees, but perhaps are demonstrating their own fear of facing up to their own mortality.

No death please, were British....

In the same way, the British are starting to learn to have a laugh about sex, perhaps in years to come they may even be able to joke about death.

CANCER is a painfull illness, you however think its all a bit of a laugh....

 

I suffer from Hodgkins disease (In remission), that's "Cancer" to you Mr Cyprus.

So I do have a basic understanding of the subject.

 

About ten years ago I spent a few months in a private London hospital undergoing Chemtherapy/Bone Marrow replacement & Radiotherapy. Ironically the private wing was full of Greek people who had to come to London because there were no decent treatment centres in Greece at the time.

 

Well as any cancer patient knows, you never really beat it, it can always come back, that's what us intelectual types call being in remissison.

 

Due to the chemo/radiotherapy I suffer from hypertension and now have been diagnosed as type 2 diabetic. It would therefore be a reasonable guess that I may end up meeting the real Mr Reaper sooner rather than later.

 

Personally I would rather have a laugh than dwell on things. At the risk of turning what is supposed to be a light hearted source of amusement (this site) into a formal debating venue let me spell things out for you as "I" see it.

 

We are ALL here for a short time, we will ALL die sooner or later (apart from possibly Michael Jackson) the whole point to life is Death and in what state we approach it (durr are we good or bad people etc).

 

Most people go through life pretending death does not exist, they don't want to talk about it or joke about it because it undermines their entire existance.

Death needs to be brought out of the closet, or in your case it seems dragged kicking & screaming. Anything that gets us to think about "Life, death the universe and everything" can't be that bad.

 

My point about people's attitudes to death is illustrated by the fact that I was looking forward yesterday to watching "The Railway Children" on TV, however it was axed due to the fact that there had been a rail crash in England the day before and six people had died. I doubt anyone connected with the incident would even have noticed it was on TV, however the powers that be probably thought us all so imature that had viewing the film caused us to dwell on the rail crash, then we would have all had nervous breakdowns or something.

The argument of protecting the relatives feelings is rather false as hundreds of people die every week in road accidents, yet we don't have a blanket ban on films involving car crashes do we?

 

Death is a fact of life, it happens to other people, it will happen to me and it sure as hell will happen to YOU.

 

So stop being such a child, and get in touch with reality,and

lighten up, life is too short to take seriously!

The medical care here and in Greece as always been first rate (for many many years).so I shall treat 'that' remark with the contempt it deserves.

I think you have made your point, which, I believe, is that finding some sort of entertainment from predicting deaths is "sick and pathetic".

 

One further thing - it is possible that your original post was, in fact, edited for a bit of amusement. (The edits don't actually seem to show in the log that I looked at previously.) So possibly you were provoked a little.

 

That said if you have nothing else to add, I think it would be best if we left it at that and I will consider closing the thread.

This isn't directed at anyone in particular, it's just a general gripe I've got.

* Correct spelling versus incorrect spelling.

* Correct grammar versus poor, or non-existent grammar.

* Coherent content versus poorly-formed, badly worded, expletive and basically incoherent content.

 

Deathlist is an Internet forum, conducted and administered in written English.

 

I think it's completely fair that posts constructed using the latter of the techniques listed above should be treated with the same respect that the posters' used when creating them.

 

Posts riddled with spelling and grammatical errors, scattered with expletives and merely rant for ranting's sake achieve absolutely nothing.

If you disagree with or are offended by this forum or the views of its posters, then an intelligent, well-written rebuke will be far more effective than a foul-mouthed tirade that appears to have been written by a nine-year-old.

 

Simply posting "YOU AINT NOTHING BUT A BUNCH OF [insert chosen expletive here] YOUR GONNA ROTTEN HELL YOU SHOULDNT OF SAID THAT" [sic] or some other equally thought-provoking argument, will only leave the reader wondering which zoo's simian enclosure has internet access.

 

So please, if you disagree, dislike or just can't stomach this forum, then at least articulate your thoughts in coherent written English. Many valid arguments and good points look foolish because the poster can't be bothered. If the poster can't, then why should the reader?
