Guest Kaspar Karpizan Posted November 10, 2004 To put the piscine debate to bed, the fish is called the Fugu. People have a choice as to what websites they read - posting abuse on a site is a surefire sign of someone with very little to occupy their minds and a probable inclination to beat strangers up in pubs. What a sad world we live in, to be sure.
Stayin Alive 26 Posted November 10, 2004 Perhaps those itbox'es in pubs have more to answer for than we originally thought then... Maybe I will have to start pulling out their cords when I next spot one. itbox - keeping irate DL pub ranters satisfied since 2003.
Guest Cyprus Posted November 15, 2004 posting abuse on a site is a surefire sign of someone with very little to occupy their minds and a probable inclination to beat strangers up in pubs. What a sad world we live in, to be sure. Offending people and there families is OK then....ptfff grow up, my English may not be as perfect as yours but I speak 4 languages....you seem to deflect from the issue by patronizing people with your 'gammer corrections'...get a life. honez 79 Posted November 16, 2004 I speak two languages and I can spell in both of them. "The issue" you seem to think is being deflected is you believing that this forum pokes fun at famous people who are approaching the end of their life. The issue is not being deflected at all. Your spelling and grammar are not good. Q.E.D. As far as your issue goes, being famous means that the people in question have been talked about, photographed, written about and generally been in peoples' thoughts for much of their adult lives. They earned their living hoping that this would be the case. That is what being famous means. That is the price they pay. For you to argue that when they are old or diagnosed with some illness, that they should shrink away from public life and be quietly forgotten, strikes me as absurd. Death is a fact of life, and to sweep it under the carpet, ignore it and hope that no-one notices as a celeb fades into oblivion is probably the worst kind of death a celeb could get. football_fan 42 Posted November 16, 2004 Cyprus, You have the CHOICE of viewing any website that you want to. Nobody put a gun to your head and forced you to visit this website. If you don't like this website that's ok. You have already given us your opinion and we have all heard what you have to say regarding this website. There are many other websites that you can visit if this website is not for you. If you are watching television and you don't like a program, don't you just change the channel? Or are you one of those guys who will call that TV station and complain to the program director? If you don't like a song being played on the radio, don't you just change the dial? Or are you one of those people who will call the programming department of that station and complain about the music being played. It is obvious from your previous posts that you don’t like this website, so why do you keep on coming back here and posting the same complaints? You are beginning to sound like a broken record. There are many other websites in the URL universe that you can visit. Maybe you should try doing so.
Guest Cyprus Posted November 17, 2004 The issue you seem to think is being deflected is you believing that this forum pokes fun at famous people who are approaching the end of their life. The issue is not being deflected at all. Your spelling and grammar are not good. Q.E.D As I said...pathetic excuse for you morbid and very obcene web site, look at the amount of people that object to this site and have posted, maybe there grammer is not up to 'your' standard (some people do not use spell checkers either!)....but at least they have some morals!. Your argument is completely irrelevant and still does not address the issue.... This site is sick...Why not send this web address to all those peoples' relatives that you have poked fun at and see what reaction you get ....SO that is the question why don't you?...maybe you can justify it to them....or would you like me to send this web address and see what reaction you get. I suspect (again) this IP will be banned..NP .......Send this web address PLEASE to anyone who you think will endorse this forum..........IE Mr Dibnahs family (web address) Mr Hughes (co Liverpool Football Club)..see what reaction you get, can you guess? honez 79 Posted November 17, 2004 Well that sure showed me. You are, of course, absolutley right: If someone objects to anything on the web at all, we should all immediately desist and submit ourselves to self-censorship. Oh, hang on, it's not self-censorship; it's Cyprus-censorship. Self-appointed-censor-of-the-internet that you are, why stop with deathlist? Why not create a Cyprus-censored portal to the 'net that everyone must go through. That way you can block any links or subversive and sick web-sites that don't meet your (and soon-to-everyone-else's) lofty standards. If that's too much of an undertaking, I suppose you could make a start by doing what you suggested in your post--trawl through the net looking for sites that certain people would find objectional and send them the link spam-style. That sounds like a very good idea to me, because like I said, after all, you are absolutely right. No-one should be allowed to have web sites that someone (read: you) might not like. But then again, where's the fun in that? Maybe there is something in this free-speech thing that's worth giving it a try for a little while longer. The Yanks seem pretty keen on it, so it just has to be right, doesn't it? There doesn't seem to be anything else to be gained by me disagreeing with you any further on this, so I'll adopt some self-censorship on this subject, but I will pipe up on other "sick" topics on this "sick" site if I've got something to say. Teddy 21 Posted November 17, 2004 For the avoidance of any doubt, I edited Cyprus' post to make the quote more apparent - the only 'editing' done to the post. Having said that, Cyprus, should you wish to send links of this website / forum to anyone, please feel free to do so. We have been featured as a Guardian website of the week (or was it day - I forget), have appeared in articles across the world (some of which are linked in the pages of the forum), and come up in any google search. Our existence is hardly a secret. We do not censor those who disagree with us, and are willing to debate and explain our views. This is at odds with those whose only refrain seems to be that this site should be closed down. To those, I offer the words of Voltaire I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend, to the death, your right to say it. And now, ending on a pertinent quote, I propose to close this thread, which no longer appears to be about Fred Dibnah, and before it degenerates into a more abusive topic. Maybe then people can reflect on the above quote, and come to understand that free-speech comes with a price - namely at times having to be silent and listen!
