I too was disappointed when we lost our DL article. If we really want one, I would be willing to fight to the death in order to preserve it. I have a few connections among the higher ranking wikipedians - and with some proper sourcing and a bibliography (which the copyright-paranoid wikipedians love to see), I think we could pull it off. I'm pretty sure that if we would make a well written article with some images to make it look pretty, there wouldn't be a problem. As for wikipedia on the whole, I don't think it sucks. It is the paranoid administrators that parade around deleting fair use images and other material that just bothers them that makes wikipedia worse. I'm pretty sure most of them have obsessive compulsive, so we can't be too hard on them. The topic description - well I technically don't have my own page - it is just intended to be a page for me to tell people a little about me and my wikipedia usage, although I obviously use it as a sort of homepage and of course a homebase for WDP (Which some crazy admin will most certainly discover and expose one day). If someone would be kind enough to write a draft as to what the article should say (& post it here), it would help out a lot.

Just to put my 2 cents in - I would really really like to see Tammy on the list if she survives. She is almost a 100% guarantee. I think she makes the famous-enough cut - plenty of google results, and I heard of her before DL (for what its worth). She also has a lengthy wikipedia article, which I sometimes use as a guideline. To put it into perspective, I'm guessing that between 700-900 articles would show up on google news upon her death. That is a pretty big number - Peter Boyle pulled in about 825.

I reported this on the suggestions for DL 07 thread seeing that someone suggested him. I doubt we would have picked him even if he had survived though. Ahmet Ertegun dead. UPDATE: I guess the guy has his own thread. [He has. Post moved from "Not Exactly Famous" -- MH]

That would make more sense. Sorry Weatherman, I should have been clearer. I meant this Jack Jones. Famous enough here, but not internationally I agree. He might get a knighthood too.
-
Why Jack Jones? From what I can tell he is a 68 year old in good health.

Ahmet Ertugun is dead - too late for that one! Good call though, OoO Ertugun dead.

I just got done reading the Tammy Faye post minutes ago - it looks like she is finally nearing the end, although I thought she was a goner in 2004. Her death would definately shake up the scoreboard - a rough sketch done in my head would put Slave to the Grave in 1st with 39, Football Fan at 38, Obiskobilob and Canadian Paul tied at 31, and Windsor the Troll at 29. Glad the new layout has been well-received - I thought it was time for some color and a new design. Meanwhile, the bitter twist of irony continues as myself, the organizer of the WDP, is one of only two that have yet to score a single point. The other being a player with an unknown identity who decided to include some very young picks. -
Tammy seems to be on her last stretch. It has been so many years by now - I started this topic in June 2004 and even by then she had been battling for several months. Hopefully the mascara industry will be able to rebound.

Finally! , (After almost 2 months), our 12th hit has arrived in the form of Liz Bolden, the second "world's oldest person" to die this year, after Maria Capovilla. RMHED (known around these parts as Tempus Fugit), scores 6 points, and now has 19 points. However, he only moves from 6th to 5th place. Hopefully we can squeeze out at least 4 or 5 more hits to break the long standing tie for first place. The days are dwindling - just 112 to go. The WDP Headquarters Page (newly updated) -
No english sources have picked the story up yet. Were you aware of her cancer diagnosis? Damn. She was on my secret 2007 DDP list. For your convenience a translation of that atricle: [1] In Dutch death notices "incurable disease" is a euphemism for cancer. regards, Hein

Please do us the liberty of at least spelling the basic vocabulary word they correctly...

Some older members might remember Shocking Blue's number one hit "Venus" in 1970. Anyway, apparently the lead singer, Mariska Veres, has died, according to a dutch source. From what I can translate, she was 59 and died from "incurable disease". http://www.nos.nl/nosjournaal/artikelen/20...iska_veres.html

The Weatherman Death Pool

Yes, my pool is yet to see a hit this month. -
I said it would stop at 9, and now I think it will stop at 10. I think I jinxed myself because on the morning before the latest death was reported I thought about what if my radical prediction came true.

We are now well into November, with no hits since RD's death on the 17th of Oct. You must see the new and exciting feature on the lower right hand corner of the screen at the WDP HQ. Located Here. -
Uncle Wilfie is now a culture phenomenon. Do the !

I hate to be a downer but I predict that the Deathlist 2006 is over. No more deaths! That should be an option...

Well, with the clock ticking on the WDP, and 5 months to go, it is time to analyze how the surviving picks are faring thus far. The number one pick, the coma stricken Ariel Sharon, has 15 people eagerly waiting. Little information on his condition seems to be available, and he was expected to be dead long ago. This one is almsot a toss-up, but the odds are in favor of his demise prior to April 1. #2 and #3, Ross D. and Charles H. are long gone. #4, ex-Pres Gerald Ford, is selected by 8 people. His health has been on the decline as of late with heart surgeries and hospital visits galore, but whether it is headed downhill with enough speed to put him on a slab before the end of the pool is yet to be seen. Deathlisters everywhere are now almost immune to any news on #5 Ronnie Biggs' health, as we have had our chain yanked and legs pulled many a time. Nevertheless, 8 players are hoping that the next health news story will be his last. #6, crook Tammy Faye Messner, is not dying up make-up poisoning, but rather of lung cancer which has reportedly put her into hospice. Deathlisters are able to keep tabs on her health via her sporatic bi-monthly notes on her website. The latest note was noted for its brevity - six people are hoping this is a sign that things have taken a turn for the worst. Harold Pinter pulls in at #7. He was chosen by most after his battle with throat cancer, but he is now doing well. Michael Foot, #8 with five teams waiting, is just plain old with no health concerns that have been made known to the public. #9's Albert Hoffman is also just plain old at 100. The immortal Art Buchwald ranks at #10 with four teams waiting. He's a robot from the future, obviously, so no need to worry about his demise until his parts begin to wear out around the year 4300. -

It's Matt with two T's, please! I don't mind it all that much, but the signature tampering is getting a bit old.

Spamming? Why this is absurd. His youthful appearence pertains to his likelyhood of popping off. BOTOX INJECTIONS Weatherman, you nearly got yourself a ban for SPAMMING

Barry, (no, I haven't grown out of this one yet), has now come out with a follow up to his #1 album Greatest songs of the fifites - greatest songs of the sixties. What struck me is how young they made him look on the cover: He looks closer to 33 rather than 63 in this picture.

This is a rather unique situation with Tammy Faye. Surely she is the only possible candidate that publishes a note every now and then so we can stay updated. Keep up the good work, Tammy! Hard to believe that it has been almost 2 1/2 years since I started this thread when she was diagnosed. What a battle.

I enjoy your posts Bruno...and so does your Uncle Wilfie.
