This is proving rather exciting.

No? Billy Simpson was MSC's captain, so he automatically gets 6 points? And I thought it was 6 for a captain, 3 for a team member and 1 for a reserve. Anyway, I'll chuck in Peter Lorimer as my new mid, leaving Cantero on the bench
-
You can pick one now. Also you get to replace Sumner. that means my sub comes into play, right? And I'll give Fernando Ricksen the nod as captain.

http://www.newshub.co.nz/home/sport/2017/02/new-zealand-football-legend-steve-sumner-dies.html Steve Sumner dies, giving myself and Shaun the first hit of the competition. Also, whoever had Billy Simpson as captain (Msc, I think?), it's your lucky day, as he's dead as well. (then I realise I forgot to pick a captain. Bollocks.)

Steve Sumner dead, according to many sources. http://www.newshub.co.nz/home/sport/2017/02/new-zealand-football-legend-steve-sumner-dies.html This gives 5 teams a hit.

If he gets an obit, then this will go down as Choppy's finest hour on this site, after his DDP member Omer Karami was the first man to die in 2015.
-
I'm pretty shocked to be honest. I didn't know he was ill at all.
-
Piss off Chorizo, stealing my bloody unique. (Or what I thought would be unique...) Anyway, Choppy's back on level pegging with you, Garn. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Death And The Scrabble Deficit
Chopped Liver replied to DevonDeathTrip's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Just thinking about it, all 12 letters of my name are 1 pointers. Which means I've outlived my Scrabble Deficit. Woo. Toikitenku Yoshiaki, former Mongolian sumo wrestler, died this week. His name would have scored 37 points in scrabble, and guess how old he was? 37. Also, Johnny Wahlqvist, who's scrabble name is worth 46 points, died this week, aged 43. That's -3 on his scrabble deficit. (Oh, someone got there before me) -
Also says he is very tired this afternoon. Tired of living?

http://www.sport24.co.za/Rugby/joost-update-stable-but-critical-20170204 Latest news says he's showing signs of improvement. A bit vague, innit?

That's great news re: Young, you may want to look in baseball next time first -- and even if it wasn't there, you may want to post it there, as proper. SC Oh. Just checked, and you were the one who posted it. No need to be like that, 'SC', I just post this here so people can see them as many people just check this thread. CL SC vs CL? Battle of the initials! Thanks for that. You've basically just said everything that I've ever wanted to say in this forum. That's great news re: Young, you may want to look in baseball next time first -- and even if it wasn't there, you may want to post it there, as proper. SC snip long post Must say I actually agree with you here. Well anyway, thanks for the support lads. Means a lot to know I'm not just another dumb newbie to you lot. CL

http://www.foxnews.com/health/2017/01/31/ex-mets-pitcher-anthony-young-diagnosed-with-inoperable-brain-tumor.html Anthony Young, former pitcher with the New York Mets, has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. Bearing in mind he's only in his early fifties, he could be a good pick for someone. http://www.espnfc.com/blog/football-asia/153/post/3051236/ex-sleague-cb-david-cervinski-has-cancer-only-few-months-to-live Also to add this in, David Cervinski, former Australian defender, has been diagnosed with skin cancer, and has 'only a few months to live'. Then again, Christy Dignam does regularly say this, as I'm told. Anyway, putting this here.

That's true. Friend of my family had motor neurone, suffered slowly losing bodily control for four years before dying. It just gets worse and worse.
-
not to mention getting us points in the death list cup. Sad that a man like him has to go through this awful disease while Robert Mugabe will probably die peacefully of a heart attack. I wish it was Robert Mugabe wasting away painfully
-
You reckon soon he'll be less Riger Dodds and more Riger Mortis?
-
Looks like it's an allround vote of no confidence in poor old Choppy. Maybe it's all these uniques that have people worried.

The transfer deadline day fast approaches. (I'm sorry.) 1 hour to get yer teams in. This will be good.

http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/38653070 Hit for me, Reid leaves Stranraer.

Aren't airports supposed to be named after dead people? No. Reina Sofía Airport (Tenerife South) Queen Beatrix International Airport Yeager Airport Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport Cristiano Ronaldo Airport George Bush Intercontinental Airport Upon thinking about it, Chuck Yeager is 93. May be a good pick?
-
Ooh lads, I found me a good one. Kenneth Kaunda, first president of Zambia (very famous, has a large airport named after him) still alive at the age of 92. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_Kaunda
