Liverpool born singer, musician and songwriter Billy Fury died aged just 42 from a heart attack on this day 40 years ago in 1983.Rheumatic fever as a child is thought to have been a significant contributing factor in weakening his heart. His many hit songs include Halfway to paradise, Wondrous place and its only make believe. -
I think I am going to have to indulge in a marathon session of catching up with The Archers as I feel really out of it with this huge development in the storyline.
-
Gosh it does not seem like it has been nearly a year since Jennifer (Angela Piper) featured in an episode. Now I think about it I am aware she has been appearing less and her sister Lillian has been appearing more, carrying the baton if you like for storyline that require someone from that part of the Archer family to make an appearance. But a year. Time really does fly.

Sylvia Sims a 'hit' for me in this pool.

I tend to listen to The Archers about 3 weeks behind on BBC RADIO Iplayer. At one point last year I got a bit behind and I think I missed about 4 episodes that went past the available to listen date so I am not actually sure were Peggy is? My memorys understanding was she last featured after starting to have a monument commissioned in the local church for Natasha and Toms twins and that she still lived at home but wasn't featured but I could be wrong. I suspect some health issue will be referenced in relation to Peggys absence but her sage wise owl words and sentiments will be read out in the church or by a family member from a in sympathy card or message on the flowers etc. I would love June Spencer to pop back but deep down I know that I am not thinking realistically!

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/radio/what-to-listen-to/jennifer-aldridges-sudden-death-end-era-archers-icon/ Actress Angela Piper 78 , retires from The Archers and acting after 60 years on the show. Her character Jennifer died of a heart attack whilst on a Spa holiday. June Spencer who played Jennifer's mother Peggy left the show last year-although Peggy was not killed of but the character is basically offscreen now. Will she return to the radio soap for her daughters funeral ? I wonder if Angela retired for health reasons? That is three long standing female characters who have left in less than a year, Peggy, Shula and Jennifer. Please stay put Patricia Greene and Carole Boyd!!

I predict the grim reaper is going to confound sceptics and be its most powerful yet like a super strong enema in 2024 moreso than recent years equalling or even beating 2020

I think you are right. Last year was a record year for the DDP and I predict we will again see the record be surpassed. -

He seems to laugh it off to be fair. He said it happened a lot at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool last year when many locals thought he was Mick Lynch! He has also praised Mick Lynch as good in interviews.

An outbreak of foot n mouth disease - that postponed the 2001 election if I recall correctly? -
I was listening to one of Iain Dale's political podcasts earlier and he revealed that someone asked him on a London train to pose for a selfie with them, after initially mistaking him for rail union boss Mick Lynch!, and while chatting with the guy he revealed to Iain that only a matter of days earlier he had met Liz Truss too and asked the previously normally selfie addicted Liz Truss to pose with him for a selfie after having a chat with her and she flatly refuse and nearly ran a mile kind of thing! Liz Truss now refuses to pose for selfies presumably fearing a backlash. What a turnaround.
