I have seen a number of people involved in publishing puzzled at the release date for the book after Christmas saying it strongly points to expectations of low sales by the publisher.

People who support the monarchy or at least don't want it abolished are not necessarily conservative. It puzzles me why some people on say twitter who are very loud about how progressive, liberal/left wing and enlightened they are etc support a couple who are pining and holding out for titles, privileges and use the state of Delaware as a tax haven to minimise having to pay taxes and are basically really just having a tantrum because they were denied a half in half out deal with the monarchy so they could coin it in for minimal duties. They are as elitist as they come. Harry was even recorded saying to someone posing as Greta Thurnberg in a telephone call that he saw charity work and philanthropy as a good way to make loads of money for himself. I don't think it makes sense to be against the royal family but support a couple who still want an in of sorts with the royal family.

Good illustration of the point. Well apparently also only about 1 in 6 of the population have twitter accounts and of those 1 in 6 many aren't active or posting often on it. So it's scope is quite limited in some regards.

I don't really think the segment of young people on twitter /social media who are 'anti establishment types'are even representative of most young people . If opinion on twitter/social media are reflective of the populations opinion Trump would never have been elected, no brexit, no tory government since 2015 and Scotland would have voted for independence in 2014. I think social medias usefulness as a barometer of public opinion especially twitter is questionable. A lot of people who viewed themselves as Pro Diana anti establishment in 1997 are now older and supporters of the monarchy even fervently pro monarchy.

I agree. I think both Harry and Meghan have overplayed their hand and amongst other things have a big credibility problem. I also feel that if they truly had something that was seriously a damaging threat to the monarchy , its members and its future the royals would have gone out of their way to swallow the bitter pill and accommodate them more in order to appease their threat. What I am trying to say is I don't think fear of the book is the royal family's dominant emotion because if it was they would have played the last year or two differently. Exasperation is probably more like it. They are also tone deaf especially him. Remember he is a man with millions of his own who went on global television whining that Daddy cut my money off- while the majority of the world was suffering from covid related problems including economic ones. We are now entering severe global economic woes, High inflation, likely recession. Fewer and fewer people will have patience for a spolit man childs self pitying poor little rich boy spiel. Even the title of the book Spare is dripping with self pity.

On this day 18 years ago in 2004 ,Princess Alice the Dowager Duchess of Gloucester, a member of the British Royal family, died aged 102. Alice was married to Prince Henry The Duke of Gloucester the third son of King George V. She was a working member of the royal family for around sixty years until frailty and age in her nineties curtailed her public appearances. Given the Queen Mother's enmity towards her sister in law Wallis Simpson and her irritation with the wife of the then Duke of Kent, Princess Marina, because of her view Marina was a deluded snob, Princess Alice was certainly the royal sister in law she got on with best. The Current Duke of Gloucester Richard is Alice's youngest son. Her eldest son Prince William of Gloucester died in the 1970s in an accident whilst piloting a plane in a competition in an airshow near Dudley. At the time of her death Alice was said to be the last living person who witnessed closely up front the abdication crisis of 1936 behind the scenes. -
