    Dame Judi Dench

I hate posts like this -- more typical of the FB set than here to be sure. If you're going to state a problem, fucking state a solution or truly shut the fuck up. It's called establishing a policy. I think you owe it to Dame Judy to answer the question she posed. To that end: Dame Judi suggested that the decision to erase Spacey's appearance set a troubling precedent (i.e. policy). Are we to go back throughout history now and anyone who has misbehaved in any way, or has broken the law, or has committed some kind of offence, are they always going to be cut out? FTR I don't read anywhere where she defends Spacey. She is defending the art. What is your policy re: the art? Answer the question she asked.

    Ice Hockey Players

Can't be many living Maple Leaf Stanley Cup winners. No danger of new ones any time soon. Edit: Reading is fundamental: "Lewicki was the last surviving member of the '51 team, and the only player to have won hockey's three major championships as a junior-age player — the Memorial Cup, the Allan Cup, emblematic of senior amateur supremacy in Canada, and the Stanley Cup." BTW we have a 'Last of the Mohicans' thread specifically for the last living _______ . It's not underutilized, it's NEVER utilized Not sure why, I think it important we pay homage to extinction. SC

    Political Frailty

The Univ of Louisiana-Lafayette (by SirC's house) was naming some building after her. Could be everyone's skin is orange due to overindulgence of crawfish and hot sauce. The people photographed are a virtual Who's Who of the SOLA (southern LA) power structure/politics, most notably Mary Landrieu and John Breuax -- and plenty of other 'eaux' surnames to wrap your head around. The Dead of 2018

Pam Henry, who was stricken with polio at the age of 14 months and went on to become the March of Dimes’ last national poster child and an Oklahoma City broadcaster, has died. Henry died Tuesday following complications from emergency surgery. She was 68. Now she's the poster child for how to get a mention on DL! SC

    Businesspeople, Investors, CEO's

Tom Hayes, Tyson Foods CEO since late 2016, is “stepping down for personal reasons,” according to a news release published Monday. Hayes’ departure is not related to any issues concerning “personal conduct or integrity.” Well ok, that leaves one thing. His health. Or his marriage is on the rocks. That's two things. SC

    Academic Footnotes

Gail O’Day, former dean of the Wake Forest University School of Divinity in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, died Sept. 22, nearly four years after the onset of symptoms later diagnosed as a glioblastoma brain tumor, the type of aggressive cancer that recently took the life of Sen. John McCain. O’Day, 63, stepped down in June from the post she inherited from founding dean Bill Leonard in 2010. She continued full time as dean for two years after her first brain surgery in 2015, integrating her treatments into her daily routines. Six weeks after her second surgery in 2017, she led her last hooding and commencement ceremonies. SC

    Ask A Deathlister

Hey Mods.... Never had a problem before, but the past 3 days maybe I have been almost unable to load a .jpg photo and attach to my posts. Has there been an update and is anyone else mentioning this? Possible glitch if so. Can't imagine how it's suddenly an issue from my end, but who knows. SirC

    Baseball

Former major league pitcher Lee Stange, who won a career-high 12 games for the Twins in 1963, died Friday. He was 81. Stange pitched for the Twins from 1961-64, Cleveland from 1964-66, Boston from 1966-70 and the Chicago White Sox in 1970. He was traded from the Twins to the Indians in a deal where the Twins got future 20-game winner Jim “Mudcat” Grant. Stange was later a Red Sox pitching coach and was with the Boston organization for 23 years. He was 8-10 for the 1967 “Impossible Dream” Red Sox. His career record was 62-61 with 21 saves and a 3.56 ERA. SC

    American Football Players

Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Tommy McDonald has died, the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced on Monday. He was 84. The 5-foot-7, 175-pound McDonald teamed with quarterback Norm Van Brocklin to help the Eagles capture the 1960 NFL championship. McDonald, who played for five teams in 12 seasons, ranked second in league history in touchdown catches (84), fourth in yards receiving (8,410) and sixth in receptions (495) when he retired in 1968. A six-time Pro Bowl selection, McDonald was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998. McDonald still owns the Eagles' single-game receiving record with a seven-reception performance for 237 yards and two touchdowns. He set the record against the New York Giants in 1961. SC

How can anyone not know who Bob Barker is? "The Price is WRONG, Bob" -- no one watch Happy Fn Gilmore? If you did, and didn't know what the joke referred to, and didn't bother to find out, I am without hope for you. People may be too young re: George Shultz, Carl Reiner (pretty much a crime not to know him, but...), or Norman Lear, and sadly probably 25% dumbass Americans don't know John Paul Stevens..... so I'm giving a pass. But BOB BARKER? Where in all of fucking hell have you been? Inexcusable. No body of water or date of birth avoids you being called an ignoramus at this point. And if you've never seen Happy Gilmore, you're simply hopeless, cunto. SC

I know it's a Wiki click away, but trust me when I tell you Hugh Downs was a very popular presenter here in the States throughout the 60s-70s-80s-90s. I can fully understand why anyone outside of the States would be scratching their heads at his name though. Kinda like I am for LUCIA HIRIART (whoever the fucker is) SC
