Contrarian for the sake of being contrarian. I will abandon this site for the rest of my life if he is alive Jan 1 2020. You must do the same if he dies before then.

Former UTSA (Univ of Texas - San Antonio) track & field coach and athletics director Jim Skaines died on Saturday, Sept. 15. Skaines was the first head coach of the UTSA men's and women's track & field programs from 1981 to 1985. He also was the second athletics director in school history, holding the position from 1985 to 1988. Apparently I missed even THAT discussion, as this is the first time I've ever heard his name. I suck at this DP stuff.

I thought he had spinal issues all his life, not exactly the framework capable of holding onto increased weight. Guess I'm wrong on that.

Gospel music artist Kirk Franklin just met his real father (he was adopted at 4 yrs old), who contacted him after being given 3-6 months to live. “So…..Two days ago, I received an anonymous call that my biological father, who I never knew, has 3-6 months to live. I’ve lived my entire life hating this man. He and my biological mother gave me up for adoption, and it left me never feeling good enough….to this very day. I took my hate for him and used it as fuel to be the best father I could be for my own. But what I did wrong, is I never took that fuel, and turn it into forgiveness….and that is wrong. Wrong for him, me, and the God I proclaim to represent. How can I preach what I don’t practice. So I flew to Houston yesterday to do that. It’s painful, it’s a process, but how disappointed I would be in myself for this man to leave this earth without being forgiven. He deserves to receive what God gives me everyday. Pray for him, and for me. God this is hard…I weep as I write.” SC -

Jay Smith, a legend in Michigan basketball circles, revealed publicly this week that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in June. Smith had surgery on Thursday and the recovery period is expected to be four to six weeks. Smith said he plans to be back in time to coach his Kalamazoo College men's team, of which he's led since 2016. He said he found out about the diagnosis during his annual physical, so doctors are hopeful they caught it early. Smith, 57, has coached college basketball since 1984, and was head coach at Division II Grand Valley State from 1996-97 and Division I Central Michigan from 1998-2006. Smith coached the Chippewas to an NCAA Tournament appearance. SC -
Don't see it posted elsewhere....apologies if so. Well-known wrestler Ganpatrao Andalkar died Sunday at a private hospital in Pune, his son said. He was 83. Andalkar, a former Olympian who took part in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, had bagged the coveted "Hind Kesari" title in 1960. He also went on to clinch Gold and Silver medals in two different weight categories in the 1962 Jakarta Asian Games. SC

Randy Edwards who appeared on the History Channel's hit TV series Swamp People has died. Authorities say Edwards was killed in a crash early Saturday morning in Iberville Parish. Edwards appeared on the first six seasons of the popular Louisiana based program. He along with his Father, Junior and his mother Theresa were fan favorites. Despite it being filmed in various locations within 100 miles from my home, I've never watched the show. In fact, it was in season 3 or summat and I was invited to a NFL Saints party to watch the game and bbq, etc, and the lady of the house introduced herself and was an editor on Swamp People -- an introduction intended to inspire -- and I'm like 'I've never heard of it.' Too lowbrow, honey. SC
