They can be got at flea markets and such, but finding one in working order may be a challenge. I've been going to try to do it, but the music availability blows so why bother is my usual setback. Besides being a lazy sod. That said, I still have my dual VCR-DVD player and my daughter (7) has been brought up watching many many VCR kids movies we got for $0.10-0.50. She knows more about Beethoven (the dog) movies than Despicable Me's. I also have a dual cassette deck from way back when, works and looks like new. Should sell it lol. But how would I play my two boxes of 60 cassettes I still own? SC (Edit -- interesting I found this Yes album '90125' (1983) released as an 8-track. That seems pretty amazing, 1983 still coming out with that. Once again, a longer prog song cut in half out of necessity.

You are correct. I have changed my vote to the physical CD as preference.

Cassettes had their glory for 15 years (say 1975-1990) as it was the only means of getting your music into your vehicle. So there was that. Once CDs appeared all new material would soon be purchased thence. HOWEVER -- many of us dinosaurs liked to make 'mixed tapes' and that was impossible until the recordable CD arrived, which wasn't for a good number of years yet. SC (edit - 8-tracks sucked -- my older sister had lots of em -- cuz due to design they almost always chopped one song in half to make it all work. Sometimes it was a hit song). Look what they did to Dark Side of the Moon. Time, Us and Them both chopped into bits. Any number of examples see playlists: Dr. Hook, Hotel California, CSNY.... You can imagine how it butchered prog rock: ELP Tarkus lol look at the playlist.

What Are You Listening To Right Now?

Genesis' "Seconds Out" live album, as well as Trick of the Tale and Foxtrot (and another album or two) were all $4.99 U.S. on iTunes two days ago, and may still be. I bought Seconds Out, being one of the better live albums ever made imho. Happy with my steal. Anyway, if a fan now is the time to buy. SC -
Personal Sir Creep driven conspiracy: Everyone in Stroud trying to one up each other and die more silly than everyone else. First there is 82-year-old Ewart Bland, a Stroud man who died after falling while trimming his hedge (another inquest heard yesterday). Mr Bland had slipped while cutting the hedge at his home and had fallen when he went out to sweep up the cuttings on September 7 last year. Then comes an elderly woman named Roma Barker -- 86 -- who died back in January (an inquest heard yesterday) from inhaling a scrambled egg. SC

The Canadian harness racing community has lost one of its top drivers. Mike MacDonald, a native of Charlottetown, died on Tuesday night. He was 70. MacDonald won the Gold Cup & Saucer, considered Atlantic Canada's biggest race, a record five times. He competed in 29 of 49 Gold Cup & Saucer finals before retiring from competition in 2009. MacDonald won almost 2,300 races in his career and earned more than $13 million in purses. He raced at most major tracks in North America. SC

At what point does someone deserve their own thread?
Sir Creep replied to Spade_Cooley's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Ringo Starr violates my Rule 1. He isn't sick at all. Why would we start threads for the healthy? He will have his time, unless he pulls a John Nash....then by God please PLEASE do not violate my Rule #3 and start a 'tribute' thread FFS. I agree re: Bain or Cappotelli, they are/were nobodies except in DP discussion. They are totally unworthy of personal threads. SC -

See my #3 above. Yours is a derivative and you are spot on mate. I'm waiting for the Kulsoom Nawaz thread any minute now. Where is Mad Hatter 2 or Sean.... they're slipping! -

Good question(s). It irks me that people really skew the 'celeb' line to post whore. I've called them out. And your post here, Spade, is subconsciously doing the same and I applaud the statement in the form of questions. 1. Are they ill (and I mean ILL not hangnail rushed to hospital for heat exhaustion, I mean ill having something called a 'di-ag-no-sis'. In fact let's use that as a rule. The person needs a diagnosis of either an inoperable, incurable, or terminal illness. Anything less isn't ill enough for a thread. Obviously heart attacks strokes etc, if BAD (not Kevin Smith e.g.), can be substituted. Really Fn old may take the place of illness, but let's say at least 95 for that to kick in. 2. Are they celeb? Not necessarily DL famous, but at least they had to be somebody that will garner a large amount of national (and hopefully worldwide) newspaper attention when they go. That takes a little subjectivity out of the equation. Anyway, this is the biggest violation. And you know who violate this -- the 'teens' in this group. OK let's say the 'under 25 crowd'. They know who they are. If you don't understand the difference between starting a thread for Kenny Rogers and starting a thread for some guy Kenny _____ who was a star midfielder for your favourite team Southhampton, you're lucky Sir C isn't an Admin. 3. AAARRRGGHHH -- Is the person DECEASED? Why do you fuckers open threads for individuals AFTER they've died? For fucking tribute's sake? Moronic. You had your chance whilst living, you blew it. Let it go. 4. Are you post-whoring? Why yes....yes you probably are. SirC -
1. When did CD's die? 2. And when did vinyl have this 'revival'. I guess if 2% of all music suddenly appears on vinyl it's a revival. Is there a similar 'turntable revival' and 'stylus manufacturing' revival? Sir Creep worked in the 'record store' 1985-87, and can tell plenty of stories, but keeping to the point, he recalls vividly receiving the very first shipment of about 15 CDs. We were like 'wtf are these?" Store manager said 'make a display for these things' and SC and another person did just that. They were like $17 ea, considering we sold vinyl albums for around $4.99 at the time, that was quite an ask. Yes, SC has purchased many items from iTunes (thus my vote), but prefers having an actual CD in his hand, despite it's space necessities. It's like ebooks, fuck that shit. But SC is an old curmudgeon man and is to be ignored as the world of music passes him by. Having his druthers SC would split his vote 1/2 iTunes 1/2 CDs. He will Youtube albums sometimes at work in wifi environment, but that isn't how he consumes and holds onto music as part of his 'collection'. SC (PS: The question asked first needs to be answered what you think of music piracy or ignoring copyright. If you think it's cool stealing from the composer, then you'll have different answers for your audio intake than if you don't)

Or could be that only 61% of Icelandic households have a TV. The other 39% live on boats moored to the dock.

Someone mentioned this on my DP facebook page, and I said I recall sitting in the waiting room at the auto air conditioning place getting my AC checked out when the news broke. So it's the 5th year anniversary of Sir C getting his vehicle's AC fixed.

Damn..... His notification of ill health on these pages seemed interesting, and his name made my 'keep an eye on him' lists, but there never seemed anything of meat to the story. Until now SC

Hey alt obits guy, I like your work. Good to see you finding the threads, I know it takes a while. I was in charge of all the human obscura posts, looks like you've taken over lol Anyway don't let it be said SC can't dole out a compliment on rare occasion.

Blue Wiggle not so wiggly BLUE Wiggle Anthony Field has been rushed to hospital while on tour in the US. The Sydney-born children’s entertainer injured himself after colliding with a revolving door and was stretchered to the Tuft Medical Centre in Boston. Field and his fellow Wiggles had just concluded the group’s tour of the US when the accident occurred. SC -
I can say I didn't understand a single sentence of your disjointed rant. Especially averring that Sir Creep made or was involved in an argument, as described by OED or Webster's (you pick). Put that crack pipe down, luv. SC

A teenage boy in Chicago died nearly a day after he was reportedly shot in the head at a party, then presumed dead and covered with a white sheet for at least an hour until bystanders saw the 17-year-old move and began shouting at paramedics to help him. Erin Carey suffered a “catastrophic” wound after gunfire broke out at a party in Chicago’s University Village neighborhood just before 5 a.m. Monday. Carey was among six people shot that night. SC
