A thread for my love of Argentine wrestlers of the 1970s and 1980s
Sir Creep replied to Spade_Cooley's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
The first and third guy are the same guy, just like in the video Mr Olympio would appear about 5 guys later minus the Afro wig. I swore it was the same dude (not like rebranding hasn’t happened in wrestling). Anyway my favourites were Mr. Olympio and the Swamp Thing. Proving I watched the whole video. SC -
FINALLY an update, March 6. New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson remains hospitalized but is showing signs of improvement, the team announced Tuesday. Benson, 90, is still in the Intensive Care Unit at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. He was admitted on Feb. 21 with flu-like symptoms. Feels like we still ain’t hearing the truth. Pneumonia? Whatever. SC

From constructing a single structure in Detroit that sold for $10,000, William J. Pulte launched a company (Pulte Homes) that became one of the nation’s largest home builders. Pulte died Wednesday at age 85, the company announced. The company, which completed its 500,000th home in 2007 and grew to operate in more than 50 markets, eventually became the nation’s largest home builder through purchasing Centex Corp. Pulte became a billionaire, earning placement on the Forbes 400 Richest Americans list several times. Losing important Michiganders always hits home for me. SC

Charles Thone — governor, congressman, Republican Party stalwart and "one of Nebraska's most productive citizens" — died Wednesday. He was age 94.

Political Discussions And Ranting Thread
Sir Creep replied to Deathray's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
It's not political but it could be. It IS a rant. I apologize to DLers in advance. "Fuck you Daylight Savings Time." As you were, 1 hour later. SC -
My sister married some bloke from Petersfield, kinda on the way to Southampton 'down the A3'. So it's my adopted sports city lol. I know, it's sad. Ironically I would move to Louisiana 8 years later, allowing me to root for the Saints in any version of football you like! As for Southampton proper, I've never been. SC

A dying woman and her partner were the first same-sex couple to legally marry in Australia, it has been revealed. After the nation redefined its marriage law in December, Jo Grant and Jill Kindt obtained an exemption from an official waiting period. Ms Grant died from cancer on 30 January, less than seven weeks after marrying Ms Kindt. They had been together for eight years. "Jo and I got to be legally married for 48 days - I'll take that," Ms Kindt. SC

Legendary Liverpool defender John Molyneux, who played under Bill Shankly, has sadly passed away aged 87. The powerful full-back played for Chester prior to joining the Reds in 1955, where he would go on to play 249 times. SC

Woody Durham died peacefully at his home from complications of Primary Progressive Aphasia, according to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was 76 years old. Durham was a 1963 graduate of Chapel Hill, and was the radio voice for both football and basketball from 1971 to 2011 [an aside....what the hell is PPA....sounds NASTY. New one on me.] (EDIT: Never mind -- I read it as ASPHYXIA which is a new disease I invented and would be ugly lol) SC

I shouldn't laugh, I feel anyone's pain believe me. But gotta admit there's more than a hint of amusement at someone else's suffering on a 'miss'. SC

A river otter attacks a kayaker, two separate occasions. "Kayaks? Oh hell no, not in MY river you don't!" "The first report was received Saturday by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, saying two people were injured after they were bitten by a river otter while kayaking, according to a statement from FWC public information coordinator Melody Kilborn. Sunday, FWC received two more reports of kayakers who were attacked and bitten by a river otter about two miles from the previous day’s attack. Initial reports said the otter was chasing boats and acting aggressively, some even reported seeing the otter come into contact with an alligator. It was not known if the otter survived the interaction with the alligator, Kilborn said." SC

The title alone catapults this into the top 5 of my favourite threads. -
Yes, a few years ago all my high school friends were posting A: photos of their children getting married, or B: photos of their children graduating from either college or high school themselves. And I would say 'mine is trying not to shit her diapers'. I guess there's always the one person who waited the longest, and in this case out of a graduating class of 620 it was Sir Creep, and his little Miss Munchkin Creep. I admit it should have been taken care of when I was younger lol but I was 47 when my daughter arrived. Well I'm not quite David Letterman or Ghandi, but I feel their pain. SC

Houston Councilman Larry Green was found dead Tuesday in his home on the southwest side. Officials at Green's office asked Houston police to do a welfare check on Green after he did not show up for a meeting Tuesday morning. They said the cause of death is unknown, but added that there was no foul play involved. SC

Joey Giambra, boxing’s “Uncrowned Champion” who fought the best middleweights the 1950s had to offer without ever getting a title shot in that division, died Friday in Las Vegas. He was 86. The cause of death is still unknown. The fighter known as “Buffalo Adonis” was one of the most popular boxers during the sport’s transition from radio to television. He had a record of 65 wins, 31 knockouts, 10 losses and two draws, and was never stopped in a fight. His lone title shot came in 1962 when he lost a decision to Denny Moyer for a junior middleweight belt. SC

One of Hawaii's biggest surfing legends, George Downing, died early Monday morning at his home in East Oahu. He was 87. Downing quickly became known for immersing himself in all facets of surfing including studying swell formation, building boards, coaching other surfers and competing himself. He won the Makaha International surfing competition in 1954, 1961 and 1965, and coached the Hawaiian team in its 1968 World Surfing Championship victory. In 1951, Downing became known for changing the game when he created the world's first surfboard with a removable fin. SC

More like a crashing industry. An article about how CDs are going the way of the dodo, as retailers are cutting back some or all of the in-store space for compact discs in the music section. "The shift further confirms the format's precipitous fall: Since peak plastic in 2001, CD sales have dropped 88%, from 712 million units to 85.4 million in 2017, according to Nielsen Music. With casual music fans done with discs in favor of streaming services like Spotify, Pandora and Apple Music, Best Buy is ceding the market to online retailers including Amazon and independent stalwarts such as Amoeba Music."
