And the Alabame Crimson Tide is in the news again 10 days later. Former Alabama quarterback Vince Sutton passed away Thursday. The LaGrange (Ga.) Daily News reported Sutton died after years of health problems. Sutton, a quarterback from 1984-88, was in need of a kidney transplant in 2011. Sutton was the last Alabama true freshman to start at quarterback before Jalen Hurts did it in 2016. Over four seasons, Sutton played in 21 games. He completed 92 of 215 passing attempts for 1,102 yards for 10 touchdowns with 13 interceptions. After completing his eligibility at Alabama, Sutton moved home to LaGrange and became a lieutenant at the county jail. SC -
Vagrants, Tramps, Homeless Eccentrics And Hermits

Not homeless -- but eccentric, so that'll have to be enough. Arthur “Mr. Okra” Robinson was a roving produce vendor, traveling the neighborhood streets of New Orleans in a heavily-customized pickup truck and using a loudspeaker to sing the praises of his oranges and bananas, his avocados and, of course, his okra. Robinson died Thursday (Feb. 15). He was 75. His death was confirmed by his stepson Teddy Stansberry. His family said he died at home of natural causes. SC -
Sue Barton, who helmed the rollout of more than 50 studio films, including Academy Award-winners Ghandi and Tootsie, has died. She was 79 and passed away Jan. 5 in Monterey, California of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. SC

I'm good either way. Let's agree that it would be nice in my Pollyanna world that I was right LOL

Some actor/comedian named John Monteith, one of the improv comedy duo "Monteith and Rand", which he formed in 1976 with Suzanne Rand (Eckmann), died on January 16, 2018. Rand's FB page confirms. SC

Maybe not. The Ideas thread is supposed to be ideas for the Committee to consider for actual addition to the DL. Not any flippant old or sickly person. If SOUZA would have a look-see at the 2018 DL, he would see no one of such un-notoriety as 'Rosita Quintana' is part of it, or ever will be. So no, please don't post it in Ideas. Post it in 'Foreign...Actors' where it belongs. SC

Indeed! I missed that little snippet or I'd have pulled it out and posted for sure. Good eye GCR! SC

I just wanted to post and say that I love DPing, and it's the search that brings about so much knowledge and 'who knew?' items. DPing is great if you want to be a trivia maven and aficionado. Researching past Grammy winners, so I pull up A Taste of Honey and 'who knew' they were fronted by two women, neither of whom knew how to play guitar/bass when they joined? Who knew the drummer was (has been) in Calgary, AB of all places, and has been heading a blues band of for decades now, of all things. No more high hat boom-ssss-boom-sss-boom-ssss-boom-ssss disco beat, but real drumming! Crazy stuff. Like I say, the best part isn't winning or anything really, just learning more about the people and events that kinda passed through our lives unnoticed or ended up in the 'where are they now' file. Thought about 'Mountaineers' but I wasn't feeling peaky. Thought about not posting at all, but reading the article gave me pause. So this seems the right place, though it sounds more than interesting, it sounds like the FUNNEST way to die! One climber fell to his death and several others had to be rescued after conditions turned treacherous on Oregon’s tallest peak. More than a half-dozen people had been climbing near Mount Hood’s peak when a climber fell about 304 metres. “One of the guys slipped,” said climber Quinn Talley, who had been descending after summiting Tuesday morning. “At first he was just sliding and right before he disappeared, he started cartwheeling.” SC

I think that would be my high end. Safe to say half of that would be a fair start but maybe getting a better one and being done with it is the way to go. Thanks for your advice!! SC

Russia's oldest polar bear in captivity, has died at 38 years old in a zoo in Perm. Polar bear Amderma was captured in the Yamal-Nenets autonomous region in 1989 and her carers estimate she was born in 1980. After brief stays in zoos in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan, she finally found sanctuary in Perm. The death occurred on Feb. 7. She lived there happily for 21 years, giving birth to five healthy cubs. According to the NGO Polar Bears International, the average age for bears in captivity is around 30, which is significantly higher than in the wild, which is around 15-18 years. The oldest polar bear in history, Debby, died in a Canadian zoo at the age of 42 in 2008. SC

Dennis Stuart Murphy, a veteran producer and unit production manager who did work on such films as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Powder and on TV series including ER and The Bridge, has died. He was 72. Murphy died Jan. 24 in Los Angeles of a brain hemorrhage related to acute myeloid leukemia. Before I get taken to task, I was stunned this wasn't posted, and search both his 3-name name and also without the middle name. No hits. If it was posted elsewhere screw you it belongs here. I'll edit this diatribe out later, just nipping shit in the bud. SC

Anne Treisman, a Princeton University psychologist who made major contributions to the understanding of attention and perception, died Friday, Feb. 9, in New York City. She was 82. Treisman explored the mechanisms of attention, first in selective listening and then in visual perception. Her work helped explain how we focus on relevant auditory information in noisy environments and how we extract meaning from complex visual scenes. The concepts she proposed have influenced generations of scientists in cognitive psychology. In 2013, Treisman received the National Medal of Science, the nation’s highest scientific honor. SC

Lt. Jim Downing, the world's second-oldest Pearl Harbor survivor, died Tuesday at 104 years old. Downing, who died from complications in surgery, joined the U.S. Navy in 1932, and left his home state of Missouri when he was just 19. When Japanese fighter planes attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, Downing was the youngest sailor on the USS Virginia. From 1952 to 1955, Downing went on to serve as the commanding officer of the USS Patapsco during the Korean War. During that time he was exposed to 20,000 times the maximum recommended lifetime dosage of radiation from the “H” bomb testing in Bikini Atoll. SC

Just wanted to say how ridiculous it is that Wikipedia 'deaths' listings for February 14 doesn't have St. Valentine's beheading of 278 A.D. listed. How can there be that much of an oversight? Happy Valentine's Day to all... .....says the aging single father sitting on an oil rig in a Texas ghost town. SMH St. Valentine had it better. SC

Hey any of you happen to have astronomy as a hobby of sorts? Wondering what a good brand / size / attributes / cost of a telescope I might look for. I'm out here in west texas and seems a shame I don't take advantage what with being able to see the Milky Way if you drive a few miles to the right location. Thanks in advance as always. SC

Former National League Rookie of the Year Wally Moon, who played on three World Series-winning teams with the Los Angeles Dodgers, has died. He was 87. Moon played for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1954-58 and was named NL Rookie of the Year in 1954, when he batted .304 with 12 homers and 76 RBI. But more importantly -- THE GREATEST UNIBROW OF ALL TIME!!! SC

Veteran publicist Ron Scott, whose client roster at one time included (awesome B-listers) David Hasselhoff, Mindy Cohn and John Stamos and who most recently managed Hollywood Medium‘s Tyler Henry, died Saturday of respiratory problems complicated by pneumonia. He was 74. I mean with a stable like that I'm surprised Dustin Diamond didn't sign him up! Scott began his decades-long career in the early 1970s at Capitol Records, where he was hired to do publicity for Eric Carmen and The Raspberries (1972), Rick Springfield (1972), Blue Swede (1973-75) and Ringo Starr’s 1974 album Good Night Vienna.
