OK, let's put this one to rest. Emma is the last person on earth who will have some dude chisling ' Born 18--' in her headstone. Fair enough? SC (Edit -- and frankly I don't know what everyone are all on about. No one ever ever ever EVVVV-VER ever ever said Emma was 'the last person born in the 19th Century' [prove me wrong with a link here ________________], only that she was the last person born in the 1800's. And that's a fact, jack.

I totally agree with the sentiment, RadGuy. However case in point was the last surviving Civil War widow back about 2003 died, and suddenly there was another one who basically kept to herself and liked it that way, but her son or summat outed her. And so it was, in fact she did exist and was verifiable. So I do believe Emma was the last, and would never believe anything coming out of Zimbabwe, but I suppose it's remotely possible someone could exist yet. SC (Edit: OH, and RIP to the 1800's). :*-(

Police officials in Panama said international soccer player Amilcar Henriquez has been shot and killed in the country's Colon province. Authorities say the 33-year-old midfielder was leaving his home when a gunman shot him several times. Another two people were wounded. Henriquez was taken to a nearby public hospital, where he died. President Juan Carlos Varela condemned the killing on his Twitter account and called for authorities in Colon to hunt down those responsible. Henriquez was a member of Panama's national team which is participating in qualifying rounds for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He played in the last 20 minutes of a recent 1-1 tie game in Panama with the United States. SC

An online crowdfunding effort has raised over $50,000 to help pay for cancer treatments for Threadhead Records leader Chris Joseph. Joseph, a Los Angeles native who helped found Threadhead Records shortly after Hurricane Katrina wiped out scores of musicians across the New Orleans area, was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Threadhead, a not-for-profit, volunteer record label made up of New Orleans musical fans from around the world, has raised over $500,000 and released over 50 albums by New Orleans artists since its founding, according to singer songwriter and Threadhead artist Paul Sanchez. Odds of obit: 1:1500 But hey.... SC

The first black woman and the first Halibut (Mus-lim) to serve on New York State’s highest court was found dead Wednesday afternoon. NYPD Harbor Unit officers pulled the body of Sheila Abdus-Salaam, 65, of West 131st Street in Harlem, out of the Hudson River near 135th street at about 1:45 p.m. An associate justice on the state’s Court of Appeals, Abdus-Salaam was pronounced dead by emergency service personnel after she was found unresponsive and unconscious. It was unclear Wednesday how she died, and a medical examiner was performing an autopsy to determine the cause of her death. A law enforcement source who didn’t want to be identified said police are initially considering the judge’s death as a possible suicide. SC (Edit -- that's hilarious -- your webpage auto-corrected 'Halibut' into 'Halibut'. I can't make that shit up. -- SC) (Edit #2... OK WTF.... no matter, if some racist ding-dong admin has made the page turn the word M-u-s l-i-m into 'Halibut', more power to ya. SMH)

Dr. Mark Wainberg, a Montreal-based trailblazer in HIV/AIDS research and an internationally renowned scientist, died Tuesday after swimming in rough water in Bal Harbour, Fla. He was 71. Bal Harbour police confirmed Wainberg's death this afternoon. Acting police chief Miguel De La Rosa said authorities had posted a warning on the beach Tuesday about high surf and high current conditions. De La Rosa said Wainberg's family was with him and his son had tried to rescue him. You can lead a scientist to water, but you can't make him read the posted warnings. SC

Wayne Hardin, the winningest coach in Temple University football history, has died at age 91. The school's athletic department on Wednesday announced the death of Hardin after he suffered a major stroke on Tuesday, just three days after taking part in the Owls' alumni festivities during spring football practice. Hardin spent 13 seasons (1970-82) at the helm of the Owls, leading them to an 80-52-3 record in that span. Those 80 wins at Temple surpass the likes of Pop Warner, Bruce Arians, Al Golden and Matt Rhule. Woulda been better if he died of Hardin'n of the arteries. SC -
Mai, a three-legged tiger at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, has died, the zoo announced Wednesday. The "stress of his trial(s) for war crimes" certainly hasn't dampened the spirits of spry Nuon Chea, who faces daily whatever in a Cambodian prison. At 89, I put him in a few DPs every year cuz it defies logic he is tolerating his surroundings. I also believe the guards kick him in the teeth daily to no avail. Given that, Cosby has at least 5 years yet. SC

Nice to see I'm the only one who has posted anything here since Oct 21, 2016 SMFH. Dennis F. Kinlaw of Wilmore (KY), who served two tenures as president of Asbury College, now Asbury University, died Monday. He was 94. During his two presidential tenures (1968-81 and 1986-91), Kinlaw charted the course for a period of spiritual revival, enriched academics and unprecedented enrollment growth at the Christian, multi-denominational, liberal arts school in Wilmore. Alma Soller McLay, the last surviving member of the U.S. team that prosecuted many of the highest-ranking Nazi war criminals at the famed trials in Nuremberg, Germany, after WWII, has died at the age of 97. She somehow escaped prosecution on DDP. SC

Man, I read that post wrong the first time. I'm like 'I saw the Exploited and they were awesome'....circa 1985. I had no idea they were slogging around still. Kinda hard to sing songs of social angst when you're 50+. SC

Well fuck....so much for assuming y'all were on the ball. How the hell did you miss the April 5th death of Jim Marshall (Marshall amps founder)???? Jim Marshall, a British music store owner who influenced the raucous sound and chest-thumping volume of rock-and-roll with his Marshall amplifiers, the stage hardware of choice for guitarists Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Slash, died April 5 at a hospice in London. He was 88. The death, of undisclosed causes, was announced on the Marshall amplifiers Web site. SC

Interesting (to my tiny brain) that the Wiki link has an image of a stamp from Paraguay with him on it. Why the HELL would Paraguay have a stamp with a German gold medal winner? SC

Former Portland Trail Blazer (and a few other teams) Cliff Robinson has been hospitalized with and undisclosed illness. Robinson's family issued a statement confirming that the 50-year-old former forward was being treated at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. "He is grateful for the support of family and friends. We ask for privacy during this time," the statement said. It's never good when they say those two things. Hope he gets well. SC

Seriously? If I wrote like that the NYPost would hire me apparently. All my posts are basically cut/paste (I delete fluff) -- just like yours and everyone else's. I may add a comment but those are obvious.
