Former Kenyan first lady Lucy Kibaki, famous for her charity work and her quick temper, has died aged 76. Kibaki, often referred to as "Mama Lucy," died while undergoing treatment at the Bupa Cromwell Hospital. The statement did not say what Kibaki was suffering from but she registered at the hospital earlier this year for what the family said was a routine check-up. AShe was married to Kenya's third president Mwai Kibaki, who was in power from 2002-2013 and who survives her. Funny we don't have a thread for civil rights activists. No matter... Rev. Samuel Billy Kyles, a noted civil rights leader who was with Dr. Martin Luther King on the balcony when King was killed 48 years ago, died Tuesday, friends and family confirmed. He was 81. Really? Not just a small race then, tone deaf cunts too. Ahh LFN we have butted heads from time to time but I'm burying the hatchet; well done! SC

While I don't buy the 'bunches' thingy, I'll go ahead for amusement purposes only and tack onto it and allow those with more expensive tin foil than I to do with this info as they wish. Here's #2 for you, unless you count Andrew Hatch in January this is #3, fete compli! Felix Simoneaux Jr. of Louisiana, who held the title of Americas oldest man for the past three months, died Tuesday a month before his 111th birthday, one of his five surviving children, Perry Simoneaux, confirmed to The Huffington Post. Simoneaux was bestowed the title of oldest living man in the United States about three months ago after the death of Andrew Hatch of Oakland, who was believed to be 117 when he died on Jan. 18. The next in line is Frank Levingston, ALSO OF LOUISIANA (!). Levingston was born on Nov. 13, 1905, making him 110. He is also the oldest living veteran in America. SC http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/the-nations-oldest-man-dies-a-month-shy-of-111th-birthday_us_5717a7a3e4b06f35cb715f5b Edit: In an interview marking his 108th birthday, Simoneaux told the Clarion Herald that the secret to longevity is is to chew food well before swallowing, eat what agrees with you, and dont overeat, smoke or drink hard liquor. The oldest woman in the United States is Susannah Mushatt Jones, 116, who lives in New York. Last year, she revealed that her secret to long life may be bacon, which she eats daily.

Alas poor Guy, then We've not come to bury Guy, but to praise him!

This thread was never about 'speculation' rather each person's pronouncement as to who they believed was the most significant. A discussion of Bowie v Prince (and anyone else deceased) is fine. Naming names of famous people who would be 'even bigger' is ridiculous; lets just List A Million Living People. Hey wait.... [for the record, were Muhammad Ali to die, it would be bigger than Bowie+Prince+all remaining names on DL 50. Discussion over.] SirC

Former model, actress and producer Samantha Schubert died in Kuala Lumpur on April 25. She was 47. Schubert, who had pancreatic cancer, was a successful model back in the 1990s and was crowned Miss Malaysia/World in 1991. She then went on to build a career in the local movie industry, starring in films like Red Scorpion 2, Amok and The Red Kebaya, a 2006 production that was directed by her then husband, Oliver Knott. Brace yourself for this one! The world of Massachusetts sports was shaken Sunday by news of the death of Ron Brace at age 29. The former New England Patriots defensive lineman hailed from Springfield, Mass., and played at Boston College. The cause of Brace’s death is not yet known, but the Patriots confirmed his passing. The team made him its second-round selection, 40th overall, in the 2009 draft. Whilst he was more popular and (probably) more well known than Bowie in the USA, Bowie had a much bigger worldwide audience in my humble opinion. And by worldwide you mean Europe. I think RadGuy made the most sense saying they're of equal footing. But I promise most of Asia wouldn't know Bowie if he resurrected on the Great Wall but they bloody well are aware who Prince was. I mentioned it on Feb 10 although at the time, they only announced 50 stores to close Yessir I see that now, sorry about that I shoulda tacked onto your post :-( SC
-
Surprised it hadn't been mentioned yet, news from a couple days ago, but holding company Sears is closing 78 stores (10 Sears, 68 KMart stores). KMart was an institution in the Midwest where I grew up and their HQ was in the Detroit suburbs, so it's sad to see the monolith all but disappear. Interestingly the store in New Iberia, LA prolly an extreme rarity in the South is one that remains open (25 miles from me if I so desire) SC http://boston.cbslocal.com/2016/04/22/sears-kmart-stores-closing-list/

No one apparently cared. Strange, he's indeed a big name. It's not that no one cares about his death, rather no one even cares about Nobel prize winners during their life. Name five, quick! See.SC Living Paul Berg, Desmond Tutu, Dario Fo (not deserved at all), Henry Kissinger, James Watson, Alice Munro, Bloembergen, Peter Higgs exc, exc. Dead: Crick, Sanger, Transtromer, Kertesz, Shapley, Nash, Kohn, Coase, Levi Montalcini, Pirandello, Einstein, Deledda, Selma Lagerlof, exc. Want me to continue? No. I'd like you to stick to this century. Are you suggesting those 'living' names are household names anywhere, cuz if so I'm suggesting you're a pinhead. Take away the 'Peace' prize (you forgot Obama) and no one knows any science related names at all. We don't care about them. Thank you for proving my point. SC If I am Pinhead you are Freddy Krueger, Guess I have to accept that fate SC
