I wanna get a unique hit, so still going for Crowe. (It'll either be Zsa Zsa or Bhumibol Adulyadej, but I'm not jumping on the bandwagon...)
-
Normally it is on the skin (although Oliver Sacks died of ocular melanoma, which is a primary cancer of the eye), but in Jimmy's case it has already spread to his liver and brains. Metastatic melanoma has carried a dismal prognosis until very recently, but in the last few years advances in immunotherapy have changed the picture. (That being said, it probably means he'll live a bit longer, rather than being cured.)

I've heard the crows are circling around Crowe, so it has to be him this time. Or not, but my bet's on him.

That movie series finished 4 years ago. Your point being? Or has JK Rowling recently had her hands cut off for stealing that'll stopping her from writing another series of shite books with Snorter? Thought not. The series was finished with Deathly Hallows, and since that book features a climatic ending and an epilogue, a new book would not "fit" into the series. Part of the excitement that the book generated was related to the cliffhangers at the end of each book, plus the epic battle between Voldemort and Potter. Would a new book work without those? Hardly.

I feel sorry for his youngest kids and their mother. But they should've known better. Céline herself was like 42 when the twins were born, and the guy was about 68 (with a prior history of cancer). I think it's quite wrong and irresponsible to sire kids when you're already a pensioner. I wonder what would happen to her career now – as a single parent with three kids and a shit ton of money, I'd advise her to retire.

Yeah, I agree, almost unique is not unique, just like an almost fatal incident is not fatal, or almost identical dresses differ in something. Since I studied a bit of mathematical analysis, "nearly infinite" feels way worse to me. One can define the concept of being "near" a number (like zero or one), and sometimes one has to use that when dealing with limits etc. But you can't be near infinity unless you like non-standard analysis.
-
It's very fatal without the needle though. Argh, I can't stop myself.... You cannot have "very fatal". It's either fatal, or it isn't. See also...."nearly unique".... Ahhhh, that's better. I guess he meant to say "almost invariably fatal" or something. What's the matter with nearly (or rather, almost) unique though? If there're only two copies of something (say, an ancient greek coin or a special aeroplane model), one of them is almost UNIque. "unique (adj.) 1. being the only one of its kind Example sentence: everyone's fingerprints are unique. You can use absolutely, totally or almost with unique in this meaning." http://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/unique?q=unique

http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/tommy-chong-i-have-rectal-cancer-2015176 I dunno if this is real (de novo) rectal cancer, or metastasized prostate cancer, but either way, it usually carries a slightly grimmer prognosis. (Unless it was caught early, but that we don't know.) Yeah, it's far from certain that he'll die in 2016, but I guess even a 20-30% chance would justify his inclusion.

I meant to say 'that's a fine list but I may have put together one a bit different.SC LOL, that's a bit different though. The list, just like the site itself, might be too UK-heavy for an American, but who do you really miss there?

For me, the most significant one has to be Christopher Lee. The man was a real Legend, and semi-active even in his 90s, so it was a bit painful, even if not surprising. The one I liked most was Jihadi John. He would have deserved something worse though.

I voted for Crowe as well. It has to be him, sooner or later...

Well, he is a cancer survivor and had some heart trouble as well. On the other hand, both of these health scares happened more than six years ago, so they might not be relevant anymore. But at 87, he has (sort of) already lived a long happy life...
-
Well, yeah – it is. But provided the committee did a decent job, at least some of the candidates will die before their birthday.

Too much wine is bad for my dislexya.

The most extreme case is Kirk Douglas. He turned 99 less than a month ago, yet he also appears on the list as a centenarian. I guess only the year was given in the database, so their age is calculated as if they had been born on the 1st of January. I guess these would be corrected if the full BOD was given.BOD - birth of date???Yes. Sorry if that wasn't clear, I thought this abbr. was also used in the UK as well as in the States. Edit: oh I see what I did there, of couse I meant DOB.

Yeah, every one of them die in the end, but that's also true for candidates that do not suffer of cancer. The question is how and when that happens For example, I'm very curious how and when Wilko Johnson will die. More than a year passed since he was "cured" and we don't hear anything about a relapse, so it's getting increasingly unlikely that he'll ever have one. I'd say he might die in his early seventies from a different type cancer or as a consequence of his surgery (he now lacks all of his pancreas, part of his stomach and bowels, which renders him a diabetic and means he has to be very careful with what he eats). Martin Crowe on the other hand did not have any kind of miracle surgery or miracle chemo drug, his condition has worsened during 2015. After his terminal double hit lymphoma diagnosis, he still had public appearances, quite a lot of blog posts and the like. But these became increasingly rare, and now I believe he's largely confined to his house. But his personal web site still says that he has won his battle with cancer, so that's a warning sign. http://www.martincrowe.com

We desperately need a 'DISlike this' button...

Recently, his manager revealed more details about his illness: In: Lemmy Kilmister Manager Details Terminal Brain + Neck Cancer http://loudwire.com/lemmy-kilmister-manager-details-terminal-brain-neck-cancer-diagnosis/?trackback=tsmclip Based on this, I guess it could either have been a stroke caused by his brain cancer or suicide. A life expectancy of just 2 months from diagnosis is quite short, so I guess his cancer was really advanced and/or aggressive, so it might have been natural.

The caption under the photo says Liabunya: Says Mugabe dies on December 31. It's almost as if it was a threat. In a way, it is. It's a prophecy, a very ominous prophecy for Mugabe. What I found even more interesting than the prophecy itself is that this 'prophet' is from Malawi. If Mugabe wins in 2018 (well, he would surely win if he doesn't die before the elections), he might break the record of Malawi's Hastings Banda, who was nearly 96 when he had to step down as president after losing an election. If he dies this year, Malawi might be able to keep that record forever, at least it's hard to imagine that voters would willingly vote for a nonagenarian in a free, democratic election.

With or without help, vou mean? The thought occurred to me, yes. Apparently it's been legal in California for a few months. Well, according to the article you linked “the law will take effect 90 days after the Legislature adjourns its special session on healthcare, which may not be until next year — January at the earliest, November at the latest.” (Presumably, they mean November 2016.) Even if you count 90 days from the day the Govenor signed the bill (5 Oct 2015), it couldn't have been legal just yet. However, I don't think I'd care if I was in excruciating pain and could access the right pills.

Your idea will never be taken, since it would contradict one of the main rules. There are some household names, like ZsaZsa, who are expected to be on every year's list until they die, but the readers also want some variety. Since at least half of the candidates must be replaced, the committee members should never be content with what they have and should always look for better candidates with which they can replace some of the names on the current list.

Well, prostate cancer for old men is kinda like breast cancer for women, high prevalence but relatively low lethality, and even if it finally kills its victims, the process usually takes a few years. Of course, his advanced age and the various infections he had could have taken a toll on him. Since he is old, he is not a lucrative DDP candidate, but since he's highly obitable, he could borrow a place on the Deathlist, somewhere near the bottom (ranks 45-50).

Not liver cancer, kidney (renal) cancer, and he lost one of his kidneys to the same disease a while ago. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/gordon-banks-reveals-hes-battling-7002494

I guess his obvious mental decline might not affect his survival directly. Of course, if there is a violent coup, he may have to run for his life; and even a peaceful transition of power can sap him of his will to live.
