WOW, this story definitely sounds fake but pretty amusing at the same time. The weirdest bit is probably the following: "With Camilla Parker-Bowles ousted and her and Prince Charles imminent divorce underway, Queen Elizabeth is determined to appoint Prince William to the Throne before she has no choice but to step down whether or not Prince William and Kate Middleton will take on the responsibility willingly is an entirely different story." 1. Appoint Bill to the throne? Wasn't there an established order of succession in Britain? I would accept that she would want to remove Charles if he doesn't obtain a divorce, but if he does divorce Camilla, why would she do this to him anyways? 2. Before she has no choice but to step down - wait a minute, exactly how many royals resigned on health grounds? I don't remember any. Why couldn't she wait until she passes away? It's not like her son/grandson couldn't act as a regent while she's incapacitated...

I know, I wasn't serious either, I was just feigning some indignation, imitating our beloved diabetic guest.

Well, if we take some influential Polish people in the last century, I could list about a dozen. Most of these are highly controversial politicians (Piłsudski, Wałęsa, Jaruzelski) with little impact abroad, some are boring artists (Władysław Szpilman) or economists (Balcerowicz) and there's only one bloke that was both charismatic and respectable, the former pope.

A quick search for 118-118 jokes brings up a bunch of articles about a Pakistani bloke. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/Halibut-student-sent-racist-jokes-362127 "A Halibut student has been left shocked after receiving two racist ‘jokes’ by a text service operated by 118 118. Kameron Abbas, 21, used the new joke service run by the directory inquiries company after seeing it advertised on TV. He was horrified when he got sent a message saying: »What’s the difference between ET and an Asian? ET got the message and went home.«" Misao Okawa was Asian, but I still fail to see the connection. (But it might be my fault.)

Mugabe appeals for bottom cleaners' help He could be in deep shit if he needs to ask Zimbabweans living abroad to help clean his bottom...

No new medical info (we knew about the skin cancer and the leukaemia recurrence already), but it was still interesting. I agree that he didn't look as if he only had a few weeks left, perhaps a few months or a year [maybe two?], depending on the efficacy of the chemo.

It would be interesting to test this probability. So below is a list of 20 randomly selected 96-year old women without any regards to specific health problems that they might have. Let's see how many are still with us on March 30, 2016One thing that you might want to consider: the 25% figure should be true if you pick random 96 yo females from the general population. On the other hand, a list of 20 celebrities might have some special characteristics, introducing "systemic bias". Bias #1 - money. Not all celebrities are filthy rich, but on average, they are wealthier than random members of the general population. In countries like the US, this can significantly influence the quality of healthcare services that they can afford, and consequently, it might improve their survival rates. Bias #2 - attention. Unfortunately, ordinary elderly people without living (close) relatives might be neglected. Celebrities, on the other hand, are less likely to suffer this fate, they have the status and financial means to get more attention or hire privare nurses etc. Bias #3 - lifestyle. etc.

Life is not a fairy tale, the kiwis were being denied their first world cup trophy by their bigger, stronger and more talented neighbours. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/cricket/32105654 So if it really was the last match he saw, he can't pass away on a positive note. But will it be the last nail in his coffin?

As much as I don't like Mugabe as a politician, I pity him for his really miserable family life. A wife and his firstborn son predeceased him, and now his second wife is about to go as well… I wonder if it will be the beginning of the end for him…
-
Yeah it was Victor Yanukovych - a Ukrainian politician, but not the ex-PM (Victor Fedorovich Yanukovich), just his son, Victor Victorovich Yanukovych. He was a much less significant figure, I wouldn't really expect this being used as a pretext for an invasion. We'll see...

I get a "video has been removed by the user" error message when I try to click on SC's embedded video. Maybe it's just not available in my country or on mobile devices...?
-
Couldn't watch it, as the video's been deleted. Oh well, maybe it's better this way. Sounds as if it was rotten.com material anyways, and I'm just about to have dinner…

Terrorists & Topical Terrorist Targets
GossipGabe replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList Forum
This is so disgusting. Most of the profits generated by the increased sales should've been donated to help the families of the victims, but no - these survivors have become so greedy... They didn't want an equal share of the bullets, so why would they get an equal share of the money? -
Oh well, I think you should prepare yourself for six of the best... Or 20, since Singaporean courts are quite liberal in applying harsh punishments for lesser offences.

Initially, they thought it was inoperable and he was about to die, now I still think it's inoperable and he's going to die, but first they will milk a small fortune from him for an experimental procedure of dubious value. He will be a great candidate in 2016 if he makes the startline.

Yeah, especially after he stopped the chemo completely. "Natural remedies" (and their placebo effects) might make him feel better (or at least less depressed), but they won't give him any extra months.

Even if this news is incorrect, he is still worthy of a thread, because:1. He has a long history of deaths in the family; word on the street is, most of his ancestors died themselves.2. All men are mortal. Vladimir Putin is a man. The cancer of the spinal cord conspiracy theory might be reignited as a back specialist doctor was reported to be treating the Russian president. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/vladimir-putin-russian-leader-getting-5341551 Alternatively, a stroke, a coup and a bastard child from ex-gymanst Alina Kabaeva might also explain his absence according to the prestigious British journal Daily Mirror… (but the story about the specialist physician was also reported elsewhere).

Possible, but since he only has been away for like 5 days, it could be something trivial like appendicitis or a bad case of flu. I hope it's terminal anal cancer, though...Richard Galpin at BBC News Moscow also speculates that he might just have a bad case of flu (great minds think alike, ain't they?), but some also think that a coup may be in the background. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-31897304 Monday could bring an end to these rumours as Putin is set to meet his Kyrgyz colleague Atembayev. Or it may fuel them in case he fails to turn up...

He also had a mixed bag carcinomas, and recently got rid of one on his scalp - presumably basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma of the skin. Normally, these aren't life-threatening in themselves, but given his general condition, they might make his last years/months even more miserable.

Socialism relies on private financial interests to generate the tax revenue for public industries.Socialism as it existed in the Eastern Bloc didn't rely on private financial interests. It relied on "socialist work ethics" and "socialist education". But if someone lacked the ethics and couldn't be brainwashed at school, they could still be charged with "social parasitism" (which was a criminal offence) if they didn't want to get a proper job (like freelancer artists). So this mixed system advocated by the Western European parties is still better, even if it seems a bit inconsistent.

I'll be amazed if she does actually, she is pretty much dead really but Von Anhalt will keep her 'alive' on her machines, he is already planning her 100th Birthday party in February 2017. And her mother also got 100 years old. Wasn't her Mother 102 when she died, also wasn't there rumours she was actually 109, if true and Zsa Zsa lives as long as her Mum she could live another 11 years +. Some generous soul on the Internet has taken time to dig out her birth certificate (it's in Hungarian, so no one besides me can understand it here - but at least it seems genuine. ) http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hjp1bZ0XdEE/T5HrlEbkSlI/AAAAAAAAAN0/XNZdXzYCraQ/s1600/Birth_Tilleman_Janka_BudapestVII_1896.jpg Since her date of death was never in doubt, it proves that she was "just" 100 when she died. Btw. even if she inherited "good genes" from her mother, her father and her sisters had normal lifespans so there's no reason to believe that she would be a supercentenarian. There's also a statistical phenomenon called "regression to the mean", which states that the children of extra tall/superintelligent people or supercentenarians might be expected to have above/longer than average heights/IQs/lifespans, but one that is less spectacular than that of their parents.

It's very possible Cardinal George will not get the required obit if/when he passes. The DL comittee usually avoids people that marginal No obit is required. The DL doesn't have to operate by the rules of the DDP, or any other dead pools. Yeah, the DL has a set of rules of its own, distinct from the DDP rules, but these include a "requirement" that the candidate should be famous enough "such that their death is expected to be reported by the UK media". Once they're on the list, they are considered a "hit" if they die, regardless of the number of obits, but people would still whine if one of the listed people died without an obit (in the mainstream media), since it'd prove that they weren't famous enough and that their inclusion was a mistake. Arguably, it'd damage the credibility and standing of the committee and the site itself (more than the low number of hits in an unlucky year), so they'd only pick people who are 101%, beyond-a-reasonable-doubt obit-worthy. And you'd still find some people whining if they are not household names, like in the case of Fergie Frederiksen. On the other hand, if they miss a big household name like Ali, people would whine even harder, even if no one knew much more than rumours in December.
