That would have an additional advantage that we wouldn't have to have guilt feelings for hoping for their death (since it'd benefit normal people). I'd go ahead and say that Jihadi John (Mohammad Emwazi), Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi (ISIS) and Abubakar Shekau (Boko Haram) would be decent candidates. They are actively being hunted, they are famous enough for a guaranteed obit. Of course, the chance of success would be somewhat lower than for the top candidates (say, 99.99% for Sam Simon), but people could freely celebrate their demise without any second thoughts.

Considering his tumultuous last weeks, it was clear that his chemo was no longer effective. The main question is how much time he has left, a few days perhaps?

"He was never as sick as ... he said he was"? Yes and no. He had stage IV cancer, but it wasn't pancreatic adenocarcinoma, the usual, deadly type that kills people within a year. Instead, he had neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer, a rare and less aggressive variant but it still spread over multiple organs like Phantom said, so it qualified as stage IV (since stage IV means one has distant metastases). If you just look at the relevant statistics at the website of the American Cancer Society, you can see that even stage IV neuroendocrine tumours might sometimes be treated with surgery, and then 16% of these patients live for at least 5 years. It doesn't mean he is guaranteed to be cured forever though, as even poor old Steve Jobs died many years after his initial diagnosis. Luckily though, he doesn't have many organs left to which the cancer could spread.(Which makes me ask how he can be fed [intravenously? orally with a special diet?], but hey, at least he's alive.)

At least he had a relatively quick death unlike poor Alexander Litvinenko. It certainly sounds like a politically motivated assassination, especially since he was trying to rally people against Putin's war in the Ukraine.
-
No, he is not the only one. Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, the Lockerbie bomber from Lybia was #1 on DL2010, was dropped next year and died in 2012 while #3 on the list. And I think it's inevitable, if the #1 pick happens to be relatively young (or at least not ancient), and his health suddenly improves, it's a logical choice.

Yeah, the silence can be explained, but the fact that he is being operated on nearly every day is an ominous sign in itself. Plus he was vomiting blood, was feeling exhausted all the time, skipped the Super Bowl - in spite of the fact that he is an avid (American) football watcher; was too tired for the Oscars and seems to be largely bedridden by now. So yeah, Sam

That report is one year and 22 days old. so? So while it tells you about his chronic condition (COPD) - which was already known to deathlisters -, it offers no explanation for the acute health problems that he had recently. Of course, we know what might have happened. He complained of chest pains, which were likely signs of heart failure - and that is no surprise given his lung disease. COPD is a chronic, progressive and incurable disease so even if he survived this acute episode, he will sadly face a bleak prognosis and deterriorating quality of life.

I didn't know they all had sex-changes? I don't see anything wrong in referring to Thespians of either sex 'actors'. We don't make a distinction for doctors. (At least in English - Swedish maybe different!) With doctors, there's no need for a distinction because a doctor of either gender can do the same work just as well as the other. Whilst with acting, a male actor would have a hard time playing the role of a girl! Some male actors may have a hard time, others would get famous for such a role.

I didn't know they all had sex-changes? This is a touchy subject. Let's just say that there are some official MoSs that recommend using "actor(s)" for both males and females. http://www.theguardian.com/theobserver/2011/sep/25/readers-editor-actor-or-actress

By FAR the most noteworthy thing about her is this:"In 1955, she married television director Robert Ellis Miller, whom she had met as a student when she auditioned for his production of The Man Who Came to Dinner, staged while he was president of the Harvard Radcliffe Dramatic Club. HE SURVIVES HER." How fucking old is HE then??? Put him on your lusts IMMEDIATELY he will be depressed and die. How rare a man survives his elderly wife.... SC Well I looked--he's only 82. (?) wtf the the obit makes no sense unless she came into acting later in life. It's all lies! Lies I tell you :-/ SC Well, an 82 yo widower with no known health issues might be a bit too young for the main list. Of course, suicide due to depression is a possibility, but some of his friends and other members of the family might console him and provide some company in these difficult times. As for the rarity of an elderly wife predeceasing her hubby, I think it's not that rare in cases where the man is considerably younger. In most developed countries, female life expectancy is only longer by 2-5 years - the situation is different in Eastern European countries like Russia or the Ukraine where mass alcoholism (mostly affecting males) results in many young-ish widows and virtually no widowers (save for poor Gorbi)

He had a brother called Jack? Are you sure that you haven't mistaken him for euthanasia activist Jack Kervorkian, a fellow Armenian-American, yet not his brother. Or was it supposed to be a joke? In that case, sorry for not getting it.

Yeah right. I don't think that "body" and "orientation" are pure binary variables. What about the truly asexual people or the zoophiles/bisexuals/narcissism? And the hermaphrodites, born with both female and male genitals? This classification scheme seems way too restrictive...

nice one. I was going to say 'It's my partly (decomposed body)' but it doesn't really work as well as yoursNo, yours is simply disgusting. OTOH, Cooley's pun was phenomenal, I would have "liked" it, if I wasn't devastated by the news. She was fairly young and I really liked that song. Oh well...

I love you for posting that, but it's not what the doctor ordered. The DDP celebrity rules state: It seems those bloody Brits can't be arsed to copy and paste it to a DDP approved news site. Oh well, 10 more months till 2016.regards,Hein Yeah, I understood that; I just wanted to satisfy Sir Creep's request (I meant to quote his previous post...), as he just wanted something besides that link confirming the death (in English). I presumed that he wanted it for their US-based competition and not the local DDP, but I may have been wrong.

Seems like a remote chance. I guess they might screen for prostate cancers and the vast majority of those are medically insignificant (early stage indolent cancers).

Ugh, that video is a bit too long and not all that interesting. Could anyone sum up the contents relevant to his prognosis? I know he had metastatic liposarcoma at two distant sites (abdomen & buttocks) and was treated with chemo (without surgery). Is he doing any better or more likely to die?
-
Nowt on his health, mind. So it may be as simple as he won't accept smaller tours and less bankable venues… What was this serious illness exactly? If it's something that he still has, he might be a good DL candidate in 2016, even if he is not world famous, think about the plethora of puns or obit headlines…

Or NOTSChttp://m.richmond.com/news/latest-news/ap/article_2307d3aa-bb5d-545f-819a-5f8d0aacd2ef.html?mode=jqm It may just be me, but I'm not convinced. He said he is still awaiting results, yet confident that he doesn't have a tumour. But why would his publicist mention a tumour if one is not suspected by his physicians? Earlier reports mentioned that he refused to see a doctor until it was apparent that he has a serious health issue. I guess it could also be a feeble attempt to get rid of the paparazzi following him.

I guess the lack of new info might mean that he and his family wanted to protect his privacy and/or that his condition was stable. The phenomenon is called metathesis, and might be responsible for a historical sound change. In this case, although nowadays "aks" is considered to be non-standard (dialectal), it has a long history that predates the birth of Modern English. Geoffrey Chaucer and many older texts has used the "ax" variant instead of ask (asc)...

Yes, lets all guess which of the 50 has a birthday during the year. Goodness, for the 28th time in a row, everyone on the list has a birthday. Full marks. What if someone was born on the 29th of February? They may not have a real birthday this year. (Of course, for legal purposes, their birthday would be considered to be 1 March or 28 February, depending on the country they live in, and they could still celebrate their birthdays on either, but it's not the same as a real bd.) Granted, the likelihood of this is quite tiny. We only have 1 such day in every four days (except some "double zero" years), so approximately 1 out of 1461 (365*3 + 366) candidates should be a leapling. The probability of a random list of 50 names containing a leap year baby should be around 1-(1460/1461)^50 or 3.37 per cent, but yeah, most of the time all of them should have a birthday.

98 today, how does she keep going? I think she will live well past her 100th Birthday, the woman is indestructible. Wiki reckon she's that old but her birthdate has been a subject of debate over the years. I also took the trouble to look at the filmography on Wikipedia, it's an awesome cornucopia of crud. I know there are other actors - Sonny Tufts for one - famous for ceaseless celluloid garbage but who, other than Gabor, has done quite so much of it? I don't get her career. Wikipedia says that she emigrated to the United States in 1941 and "became a sought-after actress". Yet, her first movie role was in 1952. So what did she do in those 11 years, and why did Conrad Hilton marry her in 1942? She got her first movie role at age 34! That's really late for a "star". But she can't be much younger because she won "Miss Hungary" at age 19. Ok, maybe a couple of years. I can make Wikipedia say that the moon is made of cheese if I want to, via a login...it's a useful site but take it with a pinch of salt. You could also take a look at her imdb page ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001248/?ref_=nv_sr_1 ), that also doesn't list anything before 1951. Wiki claims she had a stage career in Vienna, so it's fair to assume that she tried to continue that in the States as well. I guess when she emigrated in 1941, her fluency in English could have been inadequate for any substantial (credited) role. And she chose her husbands well, so films were never her primary source of income.

To be honest, as a citizen of a country where royal titles, peerages and knighthoods were abolished decades ago, I have to confess that I am not the greatest fan of the royal family. For me, Prince Phillip always seemed like a lucky but utterly useless halfwit, who married well but didn't really have a proper job (or genuine achievements) at any time in his life, and someone who (along with his grandkid Harry) periodically embarasses the countries of which his wife is a sovereign with his gaffes and stupidity. I also knew that he was already well decorated, so what does a 456th medal/title even mean to him? And knowing that his wife is the sovereign of Australia, I thought that he would be knighted either by her or his own son, Charles, which seemed like a ridiculous idea. All in all, it may not be unusual, but for me, it seemed like a waste of a perfectly good opportunity to honour someone with... well, some actual achievements or efforts put into making Australia a better place.

Yes, he has said he felt like a nine-year-old at ninety and certainly tries to act like one. On the other hand, most guys at his age need some kind of help with mobility, like a wheelchair, a cane or an aide holding their arms and he might have drunk something up there.
