Alan Glazier reported dead: He lost to Bristow twice in his best runs at the World Darts, and Bristow beat him to the grave as well. Anyway, one of those well known faces of darts.

What is happening with this year's lot? Bill Bailey's dog is dead and Nicola Adams is off the show after dance partner Katya tests positive for COVID.

Just completed 1988 for my TOTP teams. Slog with all those house acid songs. I did not know that Hithouse had died way back in 1991, car jacked to the sound of the real underground! Creeping into the chart in the last week of 1988 were A Tribe Of Toffs with John Kettley Is A Weatherman. One of those "whatever happened to...."

Here is a link to a better picture of The Keynotes: https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/the-keynotes-close-harmony-singers-with-the-british-radio-news-photo/886667966?adppopup=true Now Irene King is on the left. That's definitely the girl in The Coronets picture posted by @Ulitzer95 at the front on the left. Solved?
-
I wonder if Irene King is also the Irene King who sang with The Keynotes (with Pearl Carr), a close harmony vocal group who appeared on the radio programme Take It From Here. It would make sense if she was. If so, she was 26 in 1951, married to a drummer called Johnny Wise and had a daughter Penny. (Penny Wise? What were they thinking?!!) https://worldradiohistory.com/UK/BBC-Annual/BBC-Year-Book-1951.pdf (search for "Irene"). Also https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=9bEUAAAAIBAJ&pg=PA9&dq="Irene+King"+"The+Keynotes"&article_id=7170,1092892&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi_j8vM3_vsAhWQecAKHZL6AdAQ6AEwAHoECAAQAg#v=onepage&q="Irene King" "The Keynotes"&f=false Now according to this there's an Irene King died July 17, 1986: http://www.r2ok.co.uk/yearb.htm Would that tie in with our dame?

I have researched 1981 to 1988 (October). My first TOTP theme team was very much "let's get one done" for 1980. One year I did discover someone had carked it earlier that year off radar and posted it here. But no real surprises for me as I tend to look out for them, being very much my era. That's not to say that some might still come as a surprise to some folk. What does surprise me is that neither Joe Dolce nor Glenn Medeiros appear to have been assassinated.

Happy to help if you do. Your lists, your rules! I'm not just talking music samples, but here's an interesting question. On how many 1980s top 75 singles does "This is a journey into sound" appear? I have some idea on top 30 singles, but not an exact figure, ha!
-
Hmm. I think there is quite the number of deaths from the 80s! I'm working on 1988 just now for future DDP teams and it's quite good just to skip Prince, George Michael, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, etc etc. Keeps me from an extra 20 minutes for each month I'm doing. As I mentioned previously, the 80s are effectively a nightmare. The prevalence of sampling and studio productions just goes up and up, same with session singers and performing artists. And in the early days, the rules really hadn't been challenged on sampling, so do you credit the performers on the original from which the sample is taken? The you have the charity singles, the football singles, the one hit wonders, the bands who made one album, but invited a ton of folk onto it, etc etc. I know you've had some of these issues but hell! And you've had the advantage of a reference book! Anyway, well done for ploughing through this.

Love the fact that Four Seasons Total Landscaping in Philly (between the adult book store and across the road from the crematorium) where Giuliani and crew held their press conference on Saturday have now attached the following tag lines to their online presence: Make America Rake Again. More information here from Indianapolis Jewish paper from 1960: https://newspapers.library.in.gov/cgi-bin/indiana?a=d&d=JPOST19600916-01.1.55&e=-------en-20--1--txt-txIN Quote: Arlene Mcsrtef (re Neubauer) Sings of Embers Arlene Martel, a native of Indianapolis, is now appearing at the Embers Supper Nite Club, 2034 N. Arlene Martell was 73 in 2010 according to this: http://institutionalmemory.iu.edu/aim/bitstream/handle/10333/4336/fall10.pdf?sequence=1 Arlene Neubauer Martin. Ha ha! @Ulitzer95 maybe we found her after all!
-
That 1968 article also mentioned her as working as a session singer and her hubby was working in the record biz. Strong words with IMDB? Lets see if I can dig anything up on Arlene - not hopeful!

Ok, well I've not added in the final bonuses yet, so unlikely there will be minuses at the end. Running it slightly differently this year. I think my intention is to work off the last ever leaderboard, and then everyone can get excited when I reveal the final one with all the bonuses slapped on. I mean if we get up to 20 hits or so, there's only going to be a couple of people happy and a lot of last minute falls down the leaderboard! So it's never over til it's over. Take the title from me, whoever you are!

It doesn't specifically mention the Helen Miles Singers. It does however tie in with the first article I posted from 1991 which specifies her being in the Singers due to the tie in with Teaneck and the Ethel Merman story. It all knits together, definitely her.
