Wonder if anyone will plump for Vince Cable again as he is standing? Thumped, and one of the best Portillo faces of 2015, would he have an even more bitter face if he lost again?
-
Thanks DI, thread renamed, let's just open entries (although I expect to see folks waiting to see how things are going round about mid-May anyway). Pick the name of the politician who is most likely to lose by the largest margin on June 8th! I'll collate a bunch of names and have a scoreboard on the morning of the 9th. Doesn't have to be unique, I'm all in favour of joint winners. Wooden spoon goes to the person whose pick loses by the smallest margin or indeed retains their seat by the largest margin from the list collated. In memory of Danny Alexander from 2015.

Rather than open a new thread, perhaps the thread could be renamed That Portillo Moment and then we can use this one, given interest is already high?

Yeah, that cuts both ways though. I remember the huge laugh and applause that went up during an English based Question Time when a delightful member of the audience suggested dumping all of England's nuclear waste in Scotland. It's sad, but there remain racists in the good ole UK...both sides. -

Now that's unfair. It's the system I don't like. Some of my best shags have been English. Only time I've enjoyed being fucked by them. Nup, it's the whole rigmarole of bare-faced lies, like "austerity works" or "the bedroom tax is fair" or "disabled people really should work or we'll take their car away"...that annoys me. -

I'm perfectly happy not lapping up any of the Westminster parties' shite, thank you. So far the only guarantees are more tax cuts for foreign corporations, more overseas aid and a begging bowl out to trade with the Azores and the like. Delivery of local services? Fuck you. Fair funding for schools? Fuck you. People not dying waiting on hospital trollies? Fuck you. It's like the last days of Thatcher's last Government only worse. Only there's two generations who are eligible to vote who don't remember those heady days of Thatcher/Major. To be fair, we then got Tory Red with Blair and Brown who actively solicited the rich and wealthy and did little for Joe Bloggs as well. I'd vote for an Independent Scotland, bankrupt or not, just to get away from these fuckers... -

Absolutely. The pledge was never going to be maintainable, yet the UK laps that shit up like dog sick. No wonder she doesn't want to debate this, she's already looking uneasy and evasive on foreign aid... -

Well, well, not surprising at all that the Tories are about to drop their pledge not to raise income tax, NI or VAT. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-39671163 "Oh we won't raise taxes" says Hammond. Hmm, just like May said "Oh we won't have an election" or in the most recent Budget when Hammond said "We will raise NI contributions". Yep, not only with the great English British public vote for this bunch of two faced liars, they'll love being flagellated like a new boy at boarding school. And that's before the economy goes through the floor later this year. Vote for me says May as a vote of confidence in my deal with the EU. What deal? Does anyone know exactly what May wants and what she'll get? A device to make sure the exit happens halfway through a Parliament and not towards the end. If only someone else was electable.... -

Also what interests me is that Labour and the Tories have done nothing beside banging on about the SNP doing the day job. I'd have thought what the country wants is for a majority Government at Westminster to get on with the job of Brexit. May said today she'd be spending all her time travelling the country seeking votes. She should be in Brussels getting on with getting us out, per the people's mandate. More months wasted, more negotiating time wasted, clueless idiot. -

We'll get some sort of temperature during the local elections on May 4th. Where Labour have done ok in the past, they have gone into coalition in the main with the Tories. Which says enough about the Unionist parties. Should Labour lose Glasgow (and it all points that way), they are done. Ruthy Davidson is getting stick up here for supporting the so-called "rape clause" brought in by the Westminster Government, where a woman has to prove that a third child was born from rape in order to get child benefits for them. You are right about Sturgeon though..she doesn't want this indyref2 now, faced with a hard Brexit she's got no choice per her manifesto. If there's a different option (i.e. May loses or there's a hung Parliament) things may change. Don't forget, whatever happens the Tories will still try for a special deal for London and the rest of the country can go fuck itself. -
