    Curse Of The Eurovision

2016: Poland - Michal Spzak - Colour Of Your Life (8th). In fact before the public vote it was 25th - just shows how out of touch the juries are, had they given this song its due, it might have even ended up in the top four. Never did get that fiver on, sadly.

    The Beatles Death Curse

Tony Barrow, the Beatles' press officer who first coined the term "The Fab Four" has died just after his 80th birthday. Authors Last A Long Time, But....

Yeh particularly children's authors here are a few more who have reached a grand old age. Shirley Hughes who wrote the Alfie books born 1927 Nicolas Fisk (aka David Higgenbottom) author of Kids sci-fi books like Grinny, Trillions and Starstormers born 1923 Eric Carle (The Very Hungry Caterpillar) born 1929 No health information about any of these but just by age alone they are worthy of consideration. Report of the death of Nicholas Fisk at 92. https://twitter.com/LCecilLitAgency/status/729985447397609472 Awaiting news reports/qo for BiblioG's DDP team. Is he dead or not? Good question. Those who should be in the know on Twitter say he is, but there's been no word from any news sources as yet. At this point, he's this year's Judy Carne. I'm giving it until Monday night for some form of report to appear, if not, I'll take him off the round up.

Christy O'Connor Senior has now died. He was 91. http://www.independent.ie/sport/golf/legendary-golfer-christy-oconnor-senior-has-passed-away-34714679.html Might be DDP entry, I'll add him into the round up if so. Edit: Yep, 3 Teams awaiting the usual.
  7. Admittedly I've been drinking this afternoon. I'm consistently angered these days in a way I have not been angered since the days of Thatcher. We are now in a new era where Cameron, Osbourne and May will become the new hated, "when will they die" clique. What, you didn't know what a modal verb was when you were 7? Or the past imperfect of "to be" when you were 11? Well, obviously imported cheap labour will do rather than you, you piece of shit. We could use the revenue we receive from those imported workers to build schools, hospitals and infrastructure for them and alleviate pressures on you and your family, but why bother? We never did that before and you loved it. Don't hate us, hate them. And while you are struggling by on your non-living wage (we call it a living wage so you are fooled), please pay for the following: (1) Every private pension scheme which goes to the wall from the fall out of mismanagement/financial gambling by the banks, etc.; (2) An ever more privatised health care system (you did want 7 days a week didn't you?); (3) Escalating student loans which will not be paid back (you need to pay for those as they will not achieve the wages they could have in the past to pay it themselves); (4) Redundancies in the "old" industries (we're service based these days, dontcha know?); (5) The future defaults on second, third and fourth homes (there's a housing crisis, dontcha know?); (6) Every additional penny on ever increasing pension benefits for those who had the best of times, those who used to have a job for life, those who benefited most from the booms of the past and whose money is now in the Cayman Islands. I'm really not left wing, just pointing out that even from a moderate standpoint the above is now your UK.
  8. I'll take any opportunity to expose the UK's attitude (yes, I said UK rather than this individual store): http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-36286624 Dear sir, I'm truly grateful for volunteering to show my skills and maybe someone if they are really nice they will actually give me a chance. No chance. We are back to the days when if you are foolish enough to give your talent/stuff/etc away for free you'll be doing that for the rest of your days. "OMG thank you for the chance to be a Gamesmaker, OMG thank you for letting me clean up your shit you've been dropping in your community, OMG thank you for being a cunt to your fellow man!" Be grateful if you can achieve that living wage, pretty soon you will be the one cleaning up the champagne cocktail those who don't care just vomited up coming out of Eton. Take another look at the human rights legislation, take another look at the slavery legislation then take another look at the hypocrisy of those keeping you where you belong.

    World's Oldest

She thinks she'll take the sting out of the situation by hovering over her computer at 9-00am BST on 31 May and entering herself in Maryport's Midsummer Madness Death Pool!! I'm guessing she'll be thinking "Hurrah, YW picked me over that old boot, I have ages to go!" I'm the kind of stay living DP. It's just my way. I ain't no glee club for the dead.

    Curse Of The Eurovision

My favourite songs of the last few years: 2012: Estonia - Ott Lepland - Kuula. (6th) 2013: Malta - Gianluca - Tomorrow (8th) 2014: Austria - Conchita Wurst - Rise Like A Phoenix (1st) 2015: Estonia - Elina Born and Stig Rasta - Goodbye To Yesterday (7th) Prior to the live performances and the semis, my current favourite is Poland. Meh. On this record, I'll maybe stick a fiver on them being top ten should they get through.

    Overrated People

I just started Malala's book so I'll weigh in on her when I'm finished. I finished Malala's book a while back and almost forgot to come back to this. Unless the facts of the story are vastly exaggerated or untrue, I cannot see why anyone would want to call her "overrated". She seems to be a courageous young woman who took personal risks to improve women's education in a violent and male-dominated culture. The fact that she now resides in the west would not cause me to doubt her courage, only applaud her prudence. I never read anyone's biography or autobiography, they are generally whitewashes. How did this teenager hold the UN in thrall? What has she actually done of any consequence since she was shot? She doesn't risk her life, she's no heroine, she sits in her comfy home preaching to people who already believe in her schtick. Has she gathered a political movement around her? No. Is she attaching herself to those in her home country, leading by example? No. Is she fundraising and providing schools in her place of birth? Not as far as I know. She's a teenager stating the bleeding obvious - no figurehead, nothing. I'm assuming though she will be able to put a deposit down on her own house in the UK from the sale of her books. Which is more than can be said for many teenagers today who might also espouse the simple tenet of education for girls around the world. When she does some good, when she gets some results, she might even qualify for rated. She's overrated. IMO.

    The EU Referendum Hokey Cokey

This is just looking like a re-run of the Scottish Independence referendum. Well I recall Cameron and his ilk invoking the war dead who fought and died for Great Britain and how dare we dishonour, etc, etc. by voting to leave the UK. A couple of points on the more pertinent issue of the EU, from my point of view: * Cameron goes on about our wonderful allies in Europe up to this point. Then he invokes the memory of conflicts with those allies. Could this backfire, whether in or out? I can see many folk whose attitude might be along the lines of "Yeah, back then Britain was great, we ran our armies and we won the war dontch know? We've lost all that by being subservient to Johnny Foreigner!" * At this point I still believe the UK overall will vote to leave. The disparity in the polls still tilts that way as far as I know. Those who are likely to want change and out will be hot-footing it down to vote for sure. Plenty of those who want to remain will be split between those who won't care, those who won't vote because they haven't enough information (leading directly from the short timescale for discussion) and those who will vote. Plus throw in the likely out voters who aren't saying they are voting out in case they are accused of being racists, xenophobes, little Englanders, etc etc. In fact exactly the kind of person who didn't respond to polls saying they were voting Conservative at the last General Election. Cameron cannot come up with an equivalent Vow if the polls swing away from his position. So his only course is to put the fear of god into those who are thinking of sitting at home doing the crossword or filling in internet forums with meaningless rants (ha ha).
