    The 100 Club

Wally Cassell, actor in White Heat and National Velvet, 103. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/wally-cassell-dead-white-heat-798730 Fun Fact: Mickey Rooney was his best man. Edit: Wiki has him at 100. But HR seems to have the inside gen, so I've gone with them unless they update their story (like they have done previously!). Hospitalised!

BBC news just reported live that Jack Warner, former FIFA vice-president, has been taken to hospital after a couple of nights in jail. Update: Seems to have made an amazing recovery: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/fifa/11637602/Fifa-corruption-crisis-Jack-Warner-out-dancing-hours-after-leaving-prison-on-medical-grounds.html

    The English Language

Indeed. While I suppose two people can be half-siblings and stepsiblings at the same time, the words express two quite different concepts. While we're on the subject: Dutch has no word for sibling. The concept is expressed as "broer of zus". Similarly, Dutch isn't particularly good at expressing family relations beyond first cousin ("neef" or "nicht", Dutch has different words for male and female cousins). Fine gradations like third cousin twice removed cannot be expressed in Dutch, such relations are folded in the words "achterneef" or "achternicht". To complicate matters, the words "neef" and "nicht" are also used for nephew and niece. Finally a question: my grandmother was born from her father's second marriage, who remarried after becoming a widower. From the first marriage she had a few half-siblings. Her father died when she was 10 or so, and her mother remarried and had children with her second husband as well, also half-siblings of my granny. The children of her father's first marriage and of her mother's second weren't half-siblings. Dutch has no word to express such a relation. Does English? If I follow you correctly (and as a former lawyer, I have experience of decoding instructions!) - not as far as I am aware. The children of father's first and mother's second are not related by blood or marriage in any way (the mother's remarriage reclassifying said mother as a former stepparent) and as such would have been free to inter-marry if they so desired. Legally they are no relation, though they would be free to describe themselves for familial purposes on an informal basis howsoever they choose.

    That UK Election Thing

As deputy DLPM I would just say don't think a Greavesy thread would get much action on it. He's already mentioned in the football thread. As for Sepp, feel free to open one. If he loses the election, I think I will. Bound to go downhill quicker than his countrymen's skiers.

Advice generally is to abide by the laws of the outgoing and incoming country. Contact the British consulate, embassy or high commission of the country in which the cremation took place and the appropriate advice and paperwork can be sorted from there.

    Derby Dead Pool 2015

I hate it as much as the next man but it's a case of 'if you can't beat em, join em' Until TMIB or whoever runs the show says different, it is what it is unfortunately. Thanks for the acknowledgement Going Underground and congrats on your hit. I guess anyone outside the UK would have said the same about Tom Coyne and maybe a few within the UK! But certainly for a British pool, it's fortunate (his story was extremely well covered in the Independent, Huff Post UK and Daily Mail back in September last year though).

    Hooroo, Mate.

or it could go in the sci fi thread, where it did go a few hours ago Yep, it could. Only I posted 6 minutes before charon (no disrespect, he felt it should go there) however he was an honoured member of Melbourne Theatre Company and made many appearances in television and on the stage. I felt personally to consign his career and life to one episode of Dr Who by reference to that thread was to do the man and his life a disservice. He is entitled to be in any thread applicable and I have no difficulty with you or anyone else posting what I have already posted in such threads.
